How to Style a Denim Dress with Leopard
When we talk about how to style a denim dress, I feel like it’s easy because denim is basically a neutral and goes with everything. Since every person has at least one pair of jeans, I figure trying out a denim dress isn’t all that risky.
Quote of the day: “It requires a very unusual mind to undertake the analysis of the obvious.” Alfred North Whitehead
This quote may seem strange, but it made me think of how I like to get creative with our clothing pieces. Like layering this leopard cardigan under a sweater. Before blogging I would never have thought about a cardigan under something else. That’s why I put together my eBook that I hope you’ll sign up for with your email in this link.
As for the three of us, we all wore some kind of version of denim dresses this week. My mom layered hers three fold, and Nancy wore hers with sneakers. And check out how great this theme worked with where we took photos.

How to Style a Denim Dress Creatively
So while I could have just as easily layered this cardigan over my dress, I really wanted to showcase the dress. With the sweater on top, you wouldn’t be able to see the cool zippers as well.
Yet, I have worn this dress a couple of times before, but usually with something over it. To me it’s a great layering piece in the cold weather because the denim doesn’t stick to my tights.
I know denim has been around for ages, but the addition of spandex in it to me is the best thing since sliced bread. Sure, you could rationalize that you should’t get rid of items because they always come back in style. Yet sometimes they come back in a way better version.
Like this dress. It has a great amount of stretch so I can sit and move without feeling constricted.
Hat & Scarf
I’m sure part of my love for hats lately has been the fact that I’m trying to stay out of the sun. Sure, I use sunscreen, but having a hat as part of my sun protection seems smart too. This one was gifted to me 2 years ago from Fashionable Hats, and I love it.
The skinny scarf was made by my mother. I’m sure it’s leftover material from something else she made. So I added it to this outfit to coordinate with the yellow of my purse. The weird thing is it doesn’t seem to show up as yellow in these photos. While you don’t see skinny scarves everywhere, they are nice for those of you who don’t like a lot of material up by your neck. We showed 3 other ways to wear them in the past.
Now don’t laugh at me. I just LOVE my belt bag. I can’t believe I’m saying that. Truthfully, when I talked about them in the spring trends post, I was sure I wouldn’t be joining in on this style. But let me just say that especially when we are on our field trips for blog photos, it’s nice not to have to carry a purse per se.
I know I just wore it with my lime green outfit recently, but I seriously grab it more than I thought I ever would. At least this time, I changed out the belt. It came with a yellow strap, and I decided to have it be more subtle today with a brown belt instead. And I placed the belt buckle in the back.
Walking Cradle Shoes
These Walking Cradle shoes are another collaboration with the company since I’ve become their biggest fan. I have to laugh about this pair though. When I first saw them on their site, they did nothing for me. Yet when I was out in St. Louis for the Shoe Stravaganza and saw them in person, I realized how funky and fun they were. Two words that describe me to a tee.
I almost consider this pair of shoes like a bootie from the foot view, and a sandal from the side view. And they come in black too. Even if this shoe isn’t your style, you can still use my discount code for another couple of weeks. It’s Style15 to get 15% off Walking Cradle shoes until July, 1, 2019.
I actually have had a leopard cardigan on my wish list for awhile. Not that I NEED one, but just in case I happened to see an inexpensive one. And then Nancy said she was getting rid of hers, so I jumped at the chance to add it to my closet. Therefore, I wanted to wear it right away!
Jennie, from my Ageless Style group, wore this outfit once that I felt I wanted to recreate. Which is how the leopard cardigan came to be on my wish list. I thought it’d work so great with the denim dress and matched perfectly with the shoes. It’s so nice when outfits come together that easily.
