Inspired by Dylan Sanders from Charlie’s Angels

Quote of the day: “You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.” Eleanor Roosevelt

I had to choose this quote because this challenge reminded me a little of Halloween and I did think about how I would look when I went out in public. Then again, it just shouldn’t matter, right?

This fun was the brainstorm of Sheela & Eve, and we started off by dressing up with Natalie Cook from the movie Charlie’s Angels in mind. Now we change over to Dylan Sanders who Sheela described as tough and tomboyish yet eclectic. She’s into grunge and band tee shirts, or anything with a 70s vibe, jumpsuits, denim, and a very bold lip. This was the character played by Drew Barrymore in the movie.

Eve  I love that Eve went to the eclectic side of Dylan Sanders, and tried some fun print mixing.

Sheela  Of course Sheela knocks it out of the park with this denim jumpsuit.

The best thing about denim nowadays is the spandex in it. It would certainly make it easier to fight crime now as opposed to when the Charlie’s Angels were out beating the bad guys.

Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: Since Dylan Sanders’ description was tomboyish, I decided to go for the jeans, t-shirt and my hubby’s cap.

Again, I chose a pair of flare style jeans just like I did in the Natalie Cook post. I figured this fit into the 70’s vibe part of her style. Of course you may still have a pair of these in your closets from the 70’s?? If you do and they still fit, that’s impressive!!

Some of you may say that you already wore this style and don’t want to visit it again. And I get that. But I’ve also been finding it more interesting to have a couple of different style of jeans in my closet. The advantage of getting a newer pair of this style is they will have spandex in them.

I stole my husband’s hat for this look, because it looked more boyish. However, I have the blue one like this that I wore recently and I think these hats work fabulously. At least they don’t get in the way when you are riding in the car or hugging people like my other hats.

If you’re itching to try this style then I worked hard to find some fun ones for you. This one is a great deal so you can try it out without spending a bundle. You could also try a plaid look, or zebra print.

Dylan Sanders style with accessories

We have styled graphic t-shirts on the blog many times.

Wearing the t-shirt under a blazer is one of my favorite ways to style it, and I figured that this blazer seemed kinda 70’s style since it was corduroy. Besides, it’s getting cold out where we live, so I needed some kind of layering item.

I also wore my black ankle booties for this outfit. Black booties are definitely a wardrobe staple, and I can see that my pair is starting to get worn.

Therefore I may have to get shopping. If you’d like to shop with me these are the options I might consider. I was thinking that I might opt for a leather pair instead of suede this time, but I’m not 100% sure. This pair has some cool detailing at the top, this pair is a great basicthis pair isn’t much different than what I’d be replacing, but this pair really strikes my fancy.

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: For Nancy’s look inspired by Dylan Sanders, she read the part about the jumpsuit, and grabbed onto that item.

Nancy wore this jumpsuit for our posts with that theme two summers ago. And even though many of you don’t love the idea of a jumpsuit, I’m always amazed at how they make a huge appearance at the holiday times. Maybe because they are so easy like a dress??

If you are one who loves the idea of a jumpsuit, then I even found a couple with sleeves. There’s a burgundy version and a black version.

I love that Nancy thought to wear a hat for this look also! Really, this is the perfect time to wear hats since it’s getting colder out. Now I know when I bring up hats to both mom and Nancy, they both complain that hats mess up your hair. Well, my argument is that you leave the hat on the entire day, so it doesn’t matter. At least that’s what all the young kids do.

You can always embrace the newsboy hat in the winter version, but there are also so many fun knit hats. There are embellished ones, slouchy ones, the faux fur pom (some are detachable) as well as the tried and true beanie hats.

Even though the Charlie’s Angel’s character, Dylan is tomboyish, Nancy figured she had to make the look her own.

So even though the characters in the movie don’t seem to wear many accessories, the three of us are in the habit to usually wear some kind of jewelry.

A fun bracelet can add a little bit of extra to any outfit. There are the layered ones that make it easy for you, the open cuffs, mesh, or a more simple version. Nancy’s bracelet is a new one she picked up at a holiday fair, and I love that it has silver and gold in it.

Dylan Sanders style in winter

Since Nancy’s jumpsuit is sleeveless, she grabbed her denim jacket. We’ve styled denim jackets on the blog before, and most of us don’t really think of them as much in the winter. But there are some that are lined or with fur collars.

And then we also added in her blue ankle boots. That’s another way to winterize your jumpsuit or anything that you think is summery. Even with this burgundy jumpsuit, I think there are a multitude of different ankle boots that would look fabulous. Even a leopard pair, a jacquard pair, or a silver pair, and then definitely a black pair could all dress up this outfit for another different look.

Charlotte’s (70+) Outfit: Once my mom read the description that Dylan Sander’s liked the 70’s vibe including jumpsuits, she pulled out this one that she had made many years ago.

Since the top portion of the jumpsuit is a different print, I think you wouldn’t even realize that it’s a jumpsuit. If you like the idea of this piece, then I found a couple of others that are interesting. There’s a two tone version along with one with different prints.

We did add a white belt to cover the elastic, but I’m not sure if it’s really needed?

Since there was mention of the 70’s vibe, I also thought it would be fun to add in the white shoes. I understand most of us would have opted for black shoes with this outfit. However, I wanted to add in some fun, so why not?

Besides white ankle boots have been a favorite among bloggers lately, so I thought it’d be appropriate. If you want to see what the younger bloggers have been wearing, I’ve seen these and these on lots of them.

I was trying to stay away from a lot of accessories only because you don’t see much of them in the photos of Dylan Sanders.

However, my mom loves her bling as much as I do, so we grabbed a couple for your viewing pleasure. The necklace is one that I bought from Tamera Beardsley who I met out in LA in June. She is such a creative woman, and has such interesting pieces.

And then mom also added in some fierceness with her black bracelet.

The last piece of the puzzle for my mom’s outfit was her leather moto jacket. We picked up this jacket while shopping last year, and I think it’s such a stunning piece.

It’s easy enough to find faux leather jackets at the stores, but not always interesting ones. But never fear! I found a couple that will knock your socks off (at least they did mine). This floral insert one I would have snagged in a minute if it weren’t black. And of course, for you rock and roll chics here is a studded one. However, there are many other varieties that would stand out, like a metallic one or leopard one.
