A Jacket Gives your T-Shirt Instant Appeal

Quote of the day: “Everyday your small actions mean something.” Amy Poehler

The t-shirt.  It’s probably the most worn item in our closet for comfort and ease.  It started out as an undergarment but it has morphed into what many people consider their shirt of choice.  Talk about society becoming casual!  And that’s all fine and good, except, is it really a fabulous choice to wear by itself?

Although some t-shirts are finally being made with some shaping, the majority of them are boxy.  And most of us don’t yearn to be box shaped.  Therefore, one tremendous trick to upgrading the look of your t-shirt is to throw a jacket over it (this is truly my favorite approach).  There are plenty of lightweight jackets out there that can do the trick!

Jacket & T-Shirt for Women over 50 T-Shirts for the 50's, 60's, & 70's.

50’s Outfit:  Thanks to my friend Stacy, this jacket now resides in my closet!!  I wasn’t going to wear a necklace due to all of the embroidery on the front of the jacket; however, it’s hard not to add bling when you are an accessory junkie!

60’s Outfit :  Nancy’s jacket is 3/4 length sleeves which can help if you happen to be a heat adverse woman (Liz, I’m talking to you).

70’s Outfit: I fell in love with this color combination when mom and I put this outfit together.  It inspired me to start working on a lime green series!

Since you all already have t-shirts in your closet….I found some summery jackets to wear over them below:

  • Kathleen McDermott

All pretty. Colored Ts are so useful. Can be worn alone if fit, cut and fabric weight are suitable. If not, they make such nice layering pieces. And are useful year-round under cardigans, jackets, vests, tunics, blouses and sweaters. Even dresses. Yes to the versatility and charm of the American T.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Yes, but it’s funny because one time my mom & I were looking back in her photos. And when she was young, t-shirts were never worn in public. It’s amazing how things have changed in that regard because now they are everywhere. Maybe to the other extreme?

      • Kathleen McDermott

I think standards of dress have become woefully lax. I miss seeing people dressed nicely and well-groomed. Or even just dressed appropriately! I notice and appreciate anyone who makes an effort with their appearance. I get that everyone has bad days or emergencies, but it should be fun to put yourself together nicely. And I think it is a social obligation, just as manners and consideration are.

        • Jodie Filogomo

I totally think the same way (obviously, I guess by the blog). But I said something like that to the two male tellers at the bank the other day that were dressed so nicely. I told them that they should work on getting the public to dress as nicely. And you know what their take on it was? They said, no—because then they wouldn’t stand out as nicely! Funny, huh?

          • Kathleen McDermott

That’s funny! Smart guys! When I’m out and about, I compliment everyone I see who looks stylish and smart. When you think about it, what Stacey and Clinton always said is true – it doesn’t really take much more more time to put on a nice outfit than it does a careless outfit. FYI – Your devotion to this blog is very much appreciated.
