LA was Invaded by the Fierce 50 Women

LA Weekend

LA was Invaded by the Fierce 50 Women

Quote of the day: “I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.” Diane Ackerman

Something you may not know about me, is that I’m not very spontaneous! Of course maybe you had figured this out due to my planning nature in my summer bucket list? But it’s safe to say that I’m one of those women who tend to wait for invitations, and keep the calendar well planned out!

So when Catherine of the Fierce 50 suggested a photo shoot for any women living in the LA area, I immediately thought, “Bummer, I don’t live there, because it’d be so fun to actually meet these women in person!” The very next morning, I removed the previous day’s inspirational quote page from my calendar. The quote for that day is featured above! And it made me realize that I could get on a plane and join in on the fun, right?

That’s the beginning of this story which turned into a bigger party than any of us had first imagined!!

What is the Fierce 50 Revolution?

What started out as a way to connect women bloggers over 50 with the thought that we are not invisible, has turned into something much bigger! Considering the launch of the Fierce 50 only started less than 6 months ago, we are well on the way to becoming a sensation for not just bloggers, but for every woman. And soon it will encompass younger women too!! Because as I’ve been saying for years, it’s not about the age on your driver’s license.

In fact, I invite every single one of you reading this right now, to join the Facebook group Fierce 50 Revolution. We are hoping to reach 10,000 members soon, and hope you will be part of it! Why does it matter, especially if you aren’t a blogger? Because you really do count and the more we have in our group, the more we can make a difference for us and the younger generations!

LA Fun

It ended up that many women were interested in attending this event. And not just LA women, so Catherine put together some fun. Catherine is an amazing women with such vision. If it were me, I’d have just had the photo shoot and that’s it! But Catherine always thinks bigger and better, which is why the Fierce 50 Revolution is where it is today!

LA Weekend with LA Talk Radio

It was perfect timing since Catherine O. and Kathy Kaehler had just launched a new program on LA Talk Radio! I even had a small cameo on the show a couple of weeks ago (and there’s a newsletter that I was featured in also!) !! You can hear my appearance on your computer if you’re interested! But I should warn you, I was a huge dork!! I really need practice about talking about my blog and being coherent…that is for sure!! But if you want your dose of daily humor, then just fast forward to about 43 minutes into it and you can laugh with  me!!!

The show will be featuring all kinds of women who are FIERCE, so feel free to join in every week!

The Fashion

Since this is a fashion blog, I want to point out a couple of things, before we talk about all the activities and women!! First off, these women are all extremely beautiful. Everyone is different sizes and colors and ages, yet the inner beauty for each and every woman is shining through!!

Personally, I know mom, Nancy and I had recently styled outfits for what to wear on a plane! But I wanted to try out my Trendz skirt on this trip, which I have to report traveled beautifully. In fact, you can see in the photo below, it hardly even looks wrinkled! And this was after a night of fun at our event at the store, and then the plane ride to LA.

The other amazing piece for the weekend was my orange dress that I wore Friday night. It’s from a local boutique also, called Kaitlyn’s Collective in Cherry Creek! My husband and I have become friends with the woman who works there and I find myself getting a fun piece here and there! So like I talked about in the local boutique post earlier this week, finding unique items is such an advantage of  exploring your community shops!!

And lastly I want to tell you about the green sweatshirt in the group photo shoot photos!! It’s from FireDaughter’s clothing on Etsy, and it says “Though she be but little, she is fierce.” Shakespeare. I thought it quite appropriate for the weekend activities!!

Redondo Beach Hotel

Rob and I stayed at the Redondo Beach Hotel. This was convenient to be close to the events, and it didn’t hurt that the Friday night party was on their rooftop!! Who doesn’t love being able to head downstairs at the end of the night instead of driving home?

Here was the afternoon before the big event! Catherine & I were working on some last minute details! Rena (in the background) had been so generous and picked us up from the airport when Rob & I came in! I was blown away by such a fabulous offer, and it made me realize that there are many fabulous people in this world.

LA Weekend planning

The Launch Party!

The night started off a little cold and windy, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time.

Many of us also were able to be part of a Madion Reed video too! Notice I stood beside Barb since we were representing Bronco colors, LOL!!

LA Weekend

The dinner was catered by The Rockefeller in Hermosa Beach. The food was very good, and the staff made sure that my husband had enough to eat as he was the check-in person! That was a plus in his book!!

Kim, who Rob & I dragged into the VOXDJ’s  photo booth with us, had volunteered to help check in the women at the event along with Rob!! She really was a big help for Rob. You can tell she has a great sense of humor!!

LA weekend photo booth with Kim

I also would love you to meet the other Fierce 50 women throughout this post!! Each of their names is linked to their blog or social media site!! I hope you take the time to check them out, because each and every one of them is amazing!

Below is Tamera who has the most incredible style with her accessories. It makes sense once you find out she’s been an accessory designer!!

Fierce 50 women for an LA Weekend

Here is Julie in the denim jacket, who blogs with her 2 other friends, Cindy & Lori!! The 3 of them met in college and have been great buds every since and now have a blog together!! The woman in the red coat is Heike, who flew in from Germany!! She is a flight attendant and also designs jewelry!

New friends at our LA Weekend

Helen is squeezing in at the bottom of the photo with Carol right behind her! On my other side is Anita, Michelle in the background and Rena!!

LA Weekend Talk Radio launch

If the woman on my left below looks younger than 50, then you’re correct. This is Jessica who will be helping out with our next campaign for the Fierce 50 about bridging the gap! Because really, we are all wonderful women, no matter what our age! The other woman on my other side is Anne, who Rob & I got to go to breakfast with the next day!!

Women at our LA Weekend Party

Goody Bag

We even were gifted a goodie bag full of fun items! A huge shout out to all of the sponsors of the night because it was an incredibly, fun evening!! Thanks to ChicosMadison Reed, Lylo, Dermalogica, Artic Cool, Manna Dabholkar, and Kathy Kaehler! There were even some raffle prizes and thank you gifts!!

Saturday Activities

I was so lucky to finally meet the woman who created the wonderful graphic for me at the top of my website. Her name is Anne, pictured above, and she is an amazing artist! We had scheduled to meet for breakfast and Anne chose Gjelina in the Venice Beach area!! Did I get a photo of the four of us?? Of course not because I was enjoying our company and conversation!! But you’ll see Anne in a bunch of these photos!!

Then we were treated to brunch at the French Kande studio! Just the door itself is so gorgeous, I thought!

LA weekend at French Kande

Here is Kande welcoming each and every one of us as we came in!! The medallions are the backbone of her creations, although there are some variations in all of her items! They are amazing pieces!!

French Kande our LA Weekend

Below is Kande herself giving us an inspirational talk about how she started her jewelry design business at the age of 50! It’s evident in the design and look of her studio, that she is a creative force!

Kande of French Kande in LA

Here is Karen and I as we arrived at the studio for our brunch!

French Kande studio in LA

We were joined by Helen & Susan!!

LA Weekend at French Kande

Kande was so generous in gifting us a bracelet similar to the one I linked for you. They have an affiliate program for their jewelry, and since they are a small business, I would love to be a supporter of their company. You can see by the link that their pieces are not inexpensive. So I am in a conundrum…

French Kande jewelry at our LA photo shoot

After the brunch, Rena drove us down to Venice Beach where we walked around and oogled the different offerings!! This was at the Fluevog’s Shoe store! If you look closely, you can see that Anne in the Sunday, Chicos photo is wearing a dress where the graphic is fluevog’s shoes!!

Venice Beach shopping

LA Photo Shoot Time & Dinner

Then it was time to get over 30 women together and take some photos!! Beforehand, this seemed almost as impossible as herding cats! But it turned out great, and there was even a drone taking some of the shots!! You can actually see the drone in the picture below!!

group shot of the Fierce 50 Under the boardwalk in LA

These fabulous photos were taken by Mike, who is Catherine’s business partner and a huge help to our Fierce 50 group!!

Hats off at our LA weekend

There are a couple more women that I want to point out. If you click on their links, then you’ll recognize them in the photos above and below!! Julie, Angelique, Sherry, Val, NoraLesley, Nancy and Shauna

Gathering around the flat in LA

And I learned a new term this weekend. As a land locked girl, I had no idea what Anne was talking about when she said she was waiting on the pier at the tide line!! But I am now not only educated about this term but also the term June Gloom!!

At the tide line in LA

#LoveChicos has been a big supporter of the Fierce 50 ever since the group started. It started out with them sending all of the original members a Chico’s bracelet! And then continued by having a couple of the women be involved in their Girlfriend Event in March!

Well, they have continued being wonderful with their love and support of the Fierce 50 by not only giving us a couple of great gifts, but also sponsoring a brunch and a private shopping experience for us on Sunday morning!! The hats and bags were donated by Chico’s, and I have to tell you how wonderful the staff was at the Santa Monica Chico’s!

Chicos in Santa Monica, LA & the Fierce 50 Women

Another couple of women that you might have missed are Rae and Deb!! And below is Lesley who is also a fabulous vocal artist!! You can see a couple of the CDs, I now have in my possession, and will hopefully be sharing with you soon!!

Chicos in LA with Lesley

Catherine & Val with me and my hat below!!

I laughed when I noticed that a bunch of us were wearing orange or red shoes!! Shoe pic!!!

Orange & red shoes

And thanks to my incredible husband, Rob for being our walking backpack for the entire weekend! He took photos, let me have fun with my new girlfriends, and even got to eat a treat or two! How cute are these leopard print cupcakes that he’s sampling??

LA Weekend at Chicos

You look great in all these shots! I’m wondering how many bags you made it out of Denver with to come up with all the darling outfits you wore over the weekend. How many bags came back to Denver with you? Looks like a totally fun weekend. I recognized several faces from other blogs I follow and to see you with other favorite bloggers made me wish I was a part of that party. As usual your personal paparazzi did a great job. Have a good weekend.

    • I have to admit, I didn’t pack very smart on this trip, Lesley!! Usually Rob & I share our suitcase for a weekend trip, but this time, I commandeered the entire suitcase and he had to have his own!!

  • Oh my gosh Jodie! Good for you! I loved hearing about your trip and recognized so many of these great bloggers! A couple I’m not familiar with, so I’ll be checking them out. But, honestly, I love that you just did this. What a great quote and way to live. You deserve this, and as I approach 50 (in 3 weeks!) I am realizing that time is short. So, you and Rob are fulfilling that quote!

  • Great recap of our action-packed weekend! The best part? Meeting you and Rob in real life!
You light up the room, my dear! I gift you our local realtor’s tagline: Tiny but Mighty!

    • I love that tagline, Anne!! We always say short & sassy, but then again that reminds me of the shampoo commercials from forever ago!! (totally dating myself)
And back atcha about meeting IRL! It’s amazing how you are never too old to make new friends, right?

  • Thank you SO, SO much for sharing this with us! What a wonderful weekend and so many newly familiar faces.

You are so hardworking with all this blogging biz, and always take the time to visit, comment, support…no wonder you were invited to be part of the “inaugural” group. You ARE the personification of their mission statement!

Kudos to Rob, for being so supportive and a great photographer.

AND, you TOTALLY ROCKED that cold-shoulder dress. Favorite outfit EVER!!!

    • Thanks so much Em…and I’m so glad you joined the group too!! We need more fabulous women to keep the movement alive!! You know how you’re never sure how everyone will be IRL? Well, it was nothing to worry about, because EVERYONE was incredible!! That’s the way life should be!!
And thanks for the thumbs up on that dress! It’s Rob’s favorite too 🙂

What a fun weekend. Love you in that red cold-shoulder dress. I love the French Kande pieces. Jennifer from A Well-Styled Life wears them all the time in her posts. They seem to be very versatile so may be a good investment. May ask for a piece for my birthday!

    • I have seen the French Kande pieces on Jennifer’s blog too, Cathy! And maybe spending more on certain items every once in a while isn’t a bad thing??

  • Wow such great pics! Looks like you had an amazing time Jodie. Have a lovely weekend.

I loved reading this Jodie! What a wonderful time you all had together. My favourite quote is that one on the green sweat shirt! I also have orange shoes, so I would have fitted right in with you all. Thanks for all you do.

    • Isn’t that quote on the green sweatshirt just perfect?? I think we all need it!
And how fabulous you have orange shoes!! You are truly a fashionista!!
