Wearing our Lace Extenders Under a Sweatshirt

Quote of the day: “Righteousness is more than doing nothing wrong–it’s doing something right.” Mark Batterson

For the last in our series, I decided to put the lace extenders under a sweatshirt. I’m not a huge fan of wearing your sweatshirt in public (to me it seems gymish), but since our world has gotten more casual nowadays, I decided to see if layering with the lace could add some finesse.

I originally thought lace extenders would be a fantastic answer to the possible problem when a shirt is too short. But since the three of us are petites (all under 5’4″), that’s really not our reality! For those of you who aren’t vertically challenged, it could be a perfect solution! The company that makes these extenders has a wonderful mission and donates a portion of every sale to the Angel House Rescue Orphanage in India (see their mission here). I also put them under a sweater (here) and under a blouse (here).

50’s Outfit: I’m sure you’re all sick of my OTK boots by now, but I can’t get enough of them!

60’s Outfit: I had Nancy add her puffy vest over the sweatshirt. I figure that’s one way to make a casual item have more flair!

70’s Outfit: Of course mom bought this sweatshirt because it has owls adorning it! ….Don’t you just love her mint colored flats?

For information about the sizing—I did order a medium. It has good adjustability in the straps but even so I shortened it about 2 inches under the bust area. After I gave Nancy this one, I ordered myself an XS one —it still is a tad too long (I don’t love it hanging below the crotch area), so I just cut off one of the layers of scallops. That means I could sew it on something else! Before I altered the other one, I made it look shorter by tucking it under the band of my bra.

If you’re one who loves a sweatshirt, then I found some ungymish ones for you. These would look perfect with lace extenders under them.

  • Jodie, I could never tire of those boots. They are GORGE!

I didn’t know lace extenders were a thing…. I think I would just wear a long lace camisole–is that what it is?

Thanks for coming over and linking up Jodie. I always appreciate seeing you there.

Love, Ann of K de la K

    • Jodie Filogomo

Yeah—if you already have a long lace trimmed cami—-that’d be perfect! I’m always on the hunt for items that will add interest to the mundane outfits and that would work for the older generations! That’s why I showcased this piece!!

  • Jennifer Abel

Love your boots and the lace extenders. Thanks for sharing on #overthemoon

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jennifer!

  • PetiteOver40

You’re petite??? Those OTK boots make you like six feet tall! 😀 I have to tell you that your OTK boots are the first I’ve seen that I actually like. I usually love boots in any form but the OTK fad has generally passed me by…until now. I think it’s because you have heels on your boots and the ones I’ve seen before are flat.

Anyway, we’re here to talk about the lace extenders and your total outfit, lace included!, is my favorite! It’s a great look! AND you have officially brought me out of my lace phobia thanks to your posts about lace. I’ve even decided to make April “girlie month” on my blog! 🙂 <3

    • Jodie Filogomo

How cute that you’re going to do a “girlie” month!! I think you’re going to be surprised at how much you may like the “girlie” you—at least for every once in a while!! It’s so nice to have options and different looks!
Thanks for the wonderful compliment on my outfit—considering I was at first putting my nose up in the air about wearing a sweatshirt on the blog, it did turn out ok!!

  • Darcy from A Memory of Us

This is a great layering piece!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Darcy!!

  • There is no way I’d ever get sick of those fabulous OTK boots! Wowza! Those are fabulous! And the colour is amazing!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Suzanne—I’m definitely glad I bought them after agonizing over the decision for days!!

  • Laura

With so many cute embellished sweatshirts out there, this is a great option to make the lace extender more versatile and dress it up a bit!

    • Jodie Filogomo

You’re so right—especially since I have it—I might as well wear it a ton!!

  • Great idea – I love abit of lace! Thanks for linking, you all look wonderful.

  • Adding the extender totally makes the sweatshirt a bit less casual 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

      I’m glad you agree Tara!!

  • What a great idea, the extenders could be worn under a T shirt too

    • Jodie Filogomo

      You are so right!!

  • Dr. S. Kawasaki

I love these, didn’t know they existed. 🙂 I always wear a spaghetti strap camisole under my tops, tucked into my jeans/slacks, to keep my lower back covered up. This would be a nice alternative to that because it’s long enough to completely cover that waistband gap that happens, and in addition adds such a pretty little detail.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m glad you like them too—I was hoping that other women would see the advantages these could create with their wardrobe!! Might as well share the love, right?

  • Bernadette Laganella

Good job pulling off those extenders. Not an easy look, as you said, for a petite.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Bernadette!! I think as long as they don’t end below your crotch—they can look cute!

  • I don’t mind the non-gym sweatshirt, and dressing it up with a bit of lace makes it even better in my book.

    Chic on the Cheap

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Lydia!! I like the sweatshirts that are a little more fitted—otherwise it’s blobville!!

  • wow, Jodie, you rock that look! Beautiful!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Terri—it did turn out good, eh? Gotta love that since many times I think the outfits aren’t as good as I imagined!!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

Now that’s how to take a sweatshirt and make it work, the addition of the lace, skinny jeans and OTK boots are KILLER!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Tracey!! This is the first time I tried my OTK boots with jeans!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

I love all of these. You all look so cute! Jodie, your outfit is perfect. I love the fringe scarf. It goes perfect with the extender and the boots, which I love, by the way. And just so you know when I went grocery shopping today, the store Meijer is sort of like a super Walmart or super Target. It has all the groceries, plus clothes, shoes, etc. But on the clearance rack I found a tank/cami with a strip of lace at the bottom. You have inspired me to give this look a try! Yay!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Reading your comment Amy, made my heart sing!! Let me know how you end up liking it!!
I’m not sure if you know this, but I’m from Sylvania, Ohio—so I know Meijer’s!!

      • Amy D. Christensen

You’re from Sylvania! What? Love to hear your story sometime!

        • Jodie Filogomo

          I know…small world, huh?

  • Oh…my gosh! I love, love your outfit!! You look young, hip and fresh! The lace extender goes perfect with this look. 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Darlene…I did like how this turned out and even wore the top portion walking yesterday (with my blue jeans & converse sneakers!!)
