If you have been considering adding a leather pants outfit to your wardrobe, then I have 3 ways to ease you into the look.
Why leather pants in the first place? Because they are warm, modern and the best reason of all? Pet hair slides right off of them.
Leather Pants Outfit Ideas:
1-Conservative style: Classic White Button Up Blouse
2-Feminine Style: Floaty Pink Cardigan
3-Bold Style: Leopard Jacket
Quote of the day: “Either life entails courage, or it ceases to be life.” E. M. Forster
Does it take courage to wear a leather pants outfit?? Personally, I used to be very conservative in my style, so my answer would have been a resounding “yes” if you asked me that 8 years ago. However, since retiring from dentistry and starting this blog, I have come to realize that clothing is just that. Clothing.
It shouldn’t be intimidating and it can be quite powerful.
How we feel in our clothes can affect our mood for the entire day. It also affects how others treat us. And the biggest factor is we should feel good about it. Not trying to look thinner or taller. We should be trying to look like us. Because in all reality, we are visual animals, and what we wear sends a message of what our personality is like.
Knowing that a leather pants outfit could be intimidating, I came up with three ideas and reasoning on how you could make it feel more like “you”.

Leopard Coat: Alembika c/o~~ Pants: Banana Republic~~ Pink Cardigan: Jacket Society~~ Top: Brooks Brothers-given to me by a friend~~ Shoes: Walking Cradles c/o~~ Belt: from Anthropology given to me by a friend~~ Earrings: Audra Style c/o~~ Purse: ~~Socks: Sheec socks
1-Conservative style with the Leather Pants Outfit
If you tend to have a more conservative style, then I bet you love your white, button-up blouses. The classic white button-up is something that has been touted as a basic and can be very versatile. Don’t believe me? Then just see how we have styled them as a jacket and under a dress.
I used the white blouse as the foundation for this look. The actual blouse is a classic style Brooks Brothers that was given to me by a friend.
If you wanted to keep the look more casual, then you could skip a belt, and leave the shirt untucked.
Insider tip: Remember there are many ways to style an untucked shirt to make it look more finished. I have a YouTube video showing 3 of them.
The Accessories for a Leather Pants Outfit
Even with a conservative style, I wanted to add a belt to the mix since the waistband of the pants is boring. I had this statement belt this is elastic and adds personality to the look.
It’s only been lately that I’ve been incorporating more belts into my looks. I blogged about when to wear a belt with various looks and found that I did like most outfits better with the belts.
The earrings and purse are both relatively simple so as not to distract from the look. I wore white and gold earrings that tie in with the large ring on my finger.
And the purse is light pink which acts as a neutral for this outfit. The lighter purse keeps the outfit from being too dark. But if you didn’t want the purse to be noticed, then a dark brown or black purse would be an option.
Even my glasses could count as an accessory since this pair has a print look when you are up close.

2-Feminine Style: Floaty Pink Cardigan
For a change of this leather pants outfit, I decided to make it have a more feminine vibe. Color plays a big factor in our overall assessment of a look, so I grabbed a pink cardigan.
I purchased this cardigan from a friend’s site called Jacket Society. It’s still available in many colors at the moment if you search for a “cape vest”. I’ve had mine for years and wore it with a black and white polka dot top here.
Any kind of cardigan would work with the idea to make the leather pants outfit more feminine. You could incorporate one that is embroidered or beaded like my mother wore with her leather skirt.
3-Bold Style: Adding a Leopard Jacket
Adding a leopard jacket to the leather pants outfit was a no-brainer since I was wearing leopard shoes. Any of the animal prints are a wonderful option to give a bolder look.
This leopard (or maybe you call it cheetah. I’ve seen it called both) was shown earlier this year. I transformed it 3 ways and wore it with 3 different dresses. The company is called Alembika and has a cult following. Therefore, my exact jacket isn’t still available, but they have a multitude of interesting pieces on their site.
The Alembika motto is what makes them truly magnificent and one that I wish every company would subscribe to.
If you aren’t a fan of the animal prints, then you can add a bold statement in other ways.
1-Double leather with a leather jacket.
2-A bright color jacket or make it a different print.
3-Statement necklace.
4-My bold belt fits the bill also.
5-Faux fur or sherpa coats are fabulous too.

Leopard Shoes
I do believe every woman needs a pair of leopard shoes. They are much more versatile than you might think.
This pair is the “Sloan Pump” from Walking Cradles. They are very comfortable due to the thicker heel and Tiny Pillows in the insoles.
Even if you only wear flats or sneakers, you can find the leopard print in all varieties. My pair is a combination of warm browns and black, but there are other colors available too.
You can see that I did wear a pair of black Sheec socks (the ultra-low version) with them. While it’s obvious from this angle, I’m sure you would have never noticed in real life.
It’s amazing to me that I never used to wear socks with my shoes, sneakers, and ankle boots because the no-show socks I had tried never stayed up. But the Sheec brand has changed my outlook on it. You can find my discount code on the Sheec page on the menu of my site at any time. It is good once a quarter, so make sure to stock up.
Insider tip: Sheec recently updated their socks which is why they are called version 3.0. If you’ve worn them in the past, I’ve written about the changes they’ve made.

Leather Pants Care and Cleaning
This pair of faux leather pants was an online purchase from Banana Republic many years ago. I wore them when we discussed finding colors that go with orange for the fall.
If you want to try out a pair, they don’t have to be skin-tight or even black. There are many styles and colors available now. Let me know and I’d be happy to send you links for what you want.
Just like I shared in Charlotte’s post with her faux leather skirt, there are some tips to caring for this material. It is the same idea with a leather jacket like Lesley recently showcased.
What’s important to remember is that most faux leather is made from plastic or vinyl. I have thrown these faux leather pants in the washer and dryer with no issues but that may not be the best idea. If you do put them in the washer, it is always best to use the cold wash cycle and if you have a delicate bag then it can go in that.
Do not dry clean the faux leather.
Yet, if you want your item to last longer, it’s better to use a damp cloth on the faux leather piece and don’t put it in the washer. Especially for your pants that are not getting stinky next to your armpits.
Do you need to iron them?? Be very careful. You can but make sure to cover the faux leather with a towel and then iron with a steam-free setting. Don’t leave the iron in the same place for long.
FYI, I did steam these leather pants from the inside very carefully. Just remember, it’s not a natural material.
