Leggings for the ’50s. 60s, & 70s: Provided by StyleWe

We’ve all read the articles that leggings aren’t pants, and many of us older women have questioned ourselves on whether it’s appropriate to wear them in the first place.

So let’s address this style choice with a couple of examples and rationales!

Leggings are an extremely comfortable piece of clothing. And I’m a firm believer that any aged woman can wear them with confidence and style!

One of the tricks that both Nancy & my mom use it to buy a pair that isn’t so tight or cheap. They can look very much like pants, especially if they aren’t skin-tight. And some leggings even have more of a flair hem, so they don’t look like hosiery tights!

When StyleWe.com approached me to work with their company, I thought this might be a perfect time to try out their leggings. I found us three different styles and variations and then outfitted us with those leggings for two occasions.  Let me know what you think in the comments below. How do you usually style your leggings? And check out the special discounts below too!

Jodie’s (50’s) Casual Outfit: For my pair of leggings, I went with a pair that really looks like skinny jeans. They have back pockets and are quite thick. I really wanted these snakeskin leggings at first. Would you wear the snakeskin version?

Since they do look like regular jeans, I even wore them with a top that didn’t cover my rear all the way.  You can’t tell in these photos, but the hem length on these comes right to my ankles (it’s always a bonus when I don’t have to shorten pieces!)

I’ve been seeing bomber jackets quite a bit lately. So thanks for the help of my blogette, Jude, and my husband, who both gave me some advice on how to make my mint green, lace bomber seem more wintery. I added my fur vest over top of it and a wool scarf (which is actually my husband’s) to coordinate!

Jodie’s (50’s) Dressy Outfit: For my dressier outfit, I wore a tunic and my ankle booties and then layered my glittery, gold long cardigan over the top!

Wow…in the closeup shot, you can certainly see all of the print I wore. I didn’t even think about how the tunic is a subtle black & burgundy print. To me, I really see it as a solid (maybe I need some better lighting in my closet??).

I went with my normal sizing with these leggings. Some of you may not like the creases that show up around the knees and ankles. I actually like this, because then it seems more like jeans to me!

Nancy’s (60’s) Casual Outfit: Since Nancy already had black leggings in her possession, I ordered her some navy ones!

I figured they would go perfectly with her lace-up shoes that we styled here, here & here.

This sweater is more of a boxy, coat-type sweater that we purchased many years ago at Never Pay Retail, which sells sample clothing in Denver. It’s great because you get quality clothing for a fraction of the retail price!

Nancy’s (60’s) Dressy Outfit: Nancy just went to a holiday boutique market and picked up this super fun skirt. Even though it’s a black skirt, I wanted to show it paired with navy leggings. The skirt is considered a mini skirt, but since we are pairing it with leggings and tall boots, I think it looks nothing but appropriate!

I figured we’d add in some different blue with the teal-colored shirt too since we had her in the navy leggings!!

The silver jacket brings out the silver from the beads on the skirt! I told Nancy she must love the designer Desigual since that was the brand of the shirt she had picked to wear of Rob’s shirts in the post about wearing men’s shirts, here.

Charlotte’s (70s) Casual Outfit: For my mom’s leggings, I ordered her a size bigger than she normally takes. She did end up taking them in just a little on the inseam, but I wanted to make sure that they weren’t too tight. You can see, that they have some nice drape to them, so mom can wear them almost like pants!

We styled her poncho from the 1970’s with black leggings. The other teachers at her school used to kid her about this poncho. They always called it her horse blanket!

Here’s a view from the rear. You can see how the legs of the leggings aren’t super tight and constricting. Mom did have to shorten hers by 5 inches!

Charlotte’s (70’s) Dressy Outfit: To try to dress up the black leggings, I had mom go with a mostly black outfit, since that seems to be the norm for many women.

Black is not the greatest near mom’s face, so I added in a pink scarf and had the ends drape down her back. Of course, I had to add in a brooch too. The brooch is not only stylish but functional. It’s holding the scarf, turtleneck & sweater all together!

Since this outfit was to look more dressed up, I had mom wear her shiny leather boots. She has a suede pair, but I thought that the shine of these would add in some nice sheen!

I will have to say I was really impressed with the leggings we received from StyleWe. A couple of important factors when looking at these pieces are to make sure they aren’t see-through and aren’t too tight. You know, that I do love a great deal, but it certainly isn’t helpful if the cheap items end up being nonwearable!

The company also has some beautiful dresses and tops. Many times, their clothing items are on a flash sale, which is why my mom’s particular leggings are out of stock. But check out their website and enjoy the eye candy!
