Making the Spring Trends for 2022 Affordable

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

I love talking about the spring trends for 2022. The promise of warmer weather brings with it the lure of new styles.

9-Ways to make them affordable

And while I love researching and exploring all of the spring trends for 2022, I also think we can enjoy them without spending a ton of money. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to shop. But since we all realize that styles reappear time after time, then maybe we can find some of these trends already in our closet?
And if they aren’t in our closet already, I am sharing ways to keep them affordable if you are excited to try them.

Some of the newer spring trends for 2022 didn’t make my list because I knew they wouldn’t be something we older women would jump for joy about. For example mini skirts and bra tops. NOT that you can’t wear them because I believe that you can wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing.

However, I wanted to showcase the ideas that really sparked my interest and hope you’ll love them too.

Insider tip: After you read enough articles, you might think that everything is a spring trend for 2022. I think I counted over 15 different ideas.
But I TRULY BELIEVE that you can make almost anything look stylish with the right combination of pieces, and the right fit and accessories.

1-All White

The all-white outfits are a fresh look for spring, so it’s not surprising they were on the runway. This is something most of us could easily create with what we already have in our closets.

I’d like to point out the more flowy and wider pants too. While most of us are still shy about this silhouette, I’m hoping the more you see it, the more you will like it.

Pleated Skirts

Pleated skirts for spring trends 2022

These kinds of skirts are a more feminine spring trend of 2022. And they work for women of any age. The best thing about pleated skirts is the fact there are very few fit points and thus are easier to find ones that fit without alterations.

Gingham

Gingham on the runway

Gingham is one of those prints that are popular over and over. Especially in the spring when the season changes to warmer weather.
What I loved to see from the runway looks is the size variety of the gingham. Anything goes from large squares to smaller gingham squares. And all the colors!!

Crochet

Crochet on the runway

The spring trend of 2022 showcasing crochet was a bit misleading. It certainly didn’t look like the crochet that I’m used to seeing. But that’s where our individuality comes in.

Crochet is one of those details that is perfect for the spring months since it’s an open weave and the weather should be getting warmer.

Sequins and Metallics

Sequins for spring

The idea of wearing sequins after the holidays is something I absolutely love. I can imagine this has come about after living through the last couple of years. Most of us have learned to be grateful for what we have, and to bring sparkle to any and every day!!

As for the metallics, the golds and silvers are a wonderful way to bring the sparkle without the “in your face” as sequins provide. Either are such a fun trend.

Short Cardigans

Spring trends 2022

Long cardigans have been popular for quite a while now, so it’s nice to see the shorter ones making a comeback.
I wouldn’t be surprised if all of us have a couple of these lounging around in our closets.

It only makes sense that the warmer weather was a catalyst for shortening up the style.

Maxis

Maxis for the spring

Both maxi skirts and maxi dresses are such a functional trend for the spring and summer seasons. I can attest to the fact that when the weather is hot, hot, hot, a maxi will keep you covered yet cool.

You may think that when it’s really hot outside, the best thing is to be uncovered. But if you are actually outside in the sun, the trick is to keep the sun from hitting your body in order to stay cooler.
Don’t believe me? Then take a gander at all of the outdoor workers here in Arizona. They will be covered from head to toe.

Now the disadvantage with some maxis is they can be too long to be safe for walking up the stairs or other functional activities. That’s why it can be advantageous to have them altered to a shorter length.
Or tie them up.

Other Spring Trends for 2022

Of course, there are many other spring trends for 2022 just depending on which magazine and articles you read.

Here are a few that I think are fabulous for women our age.
1-Bright colors or as one article called them: Punchy Colors.
2-Sexy. Don’t think that just because we are old, we can’t be sexy. It doesn’t have to mean showing tons of skin, but it could be a well-fitting dress (like Lesley wore here) or a statement tunic (like Charlotte showcased here). Or check out all of the cool cut-out details.
3-Skirt suiting. I’ve seen both skirts and trouser suits all over Instagram, and this is something that most women our age love to see. The best part is how you can split up a suit and wear both pieces individually as we have done in the past.

Make Those Spring Trends For 2022 Affordable

1-Wear What you Have

There is a huge push towards more sustainable clothing and manufacturing. Of course, the absolutely most sustainable practice is to wear what you already have.
Since we all love new things too, don’t forget to have clothing swaps with friends where you can exchange clothes and accessories for free.

This is why I’ve posted about how to shop your closet in the past

2-Preloved

The next best sustainable practice is to shop secondhand. I always think that once I’ve worn something, it’s basically preloved, so what’s the difference at the secondhand shops?
If your area doesn’t have many secondhand shops, there are a couple of online options too.

DIY or Create It

The next idea is to figure out if you could DIY something. If you haven’t checked out the site called Upstyle Daily, there are many DIY and sewing tutorials for fashion. If you are looking for something in particular, then I use the search box. This site also shows ways to wear a certain trend, if you don’t DIY or sew.

For example here is a tutorial (not mine) on how a woman took a pair of jeans and made them into a maxi skirt.
Another example is taking a crochet blanket and making it into a dress.
Or here’s how to make a cardigan out of an old dress. You could always make it shorter to blend in with the spring trends of 2022.
