Quote of the day: ” If you don’t have a crazy Facebook friend, you are the crazy Facebook friend.” Jimmy Kimmel
This quote is appropriate only because I have a feeling some of you think I’m the crazy one. For some reason it just tickles my fancy to find different ways to wear the same thing. I’ve talked about it many times on the blog before!

This woven belt was given to my mom as a gift from a friend. She’s sure it is from a craft fair and was hand woven. It’s one of those piece that could be worn as two entirely different items.

Lesley Mix and Match Times Two
Dress/Skirt: Metro Wear-thrifted~~Sweater: Joseph A~ Shoes: Walking Cradles c/o~~Purse/Decor: Used as her purse when her daughter got married
Lesley found this wonderful skirt/dress at Goodwill when I had selected it as part of my curation rack for the Grand Opening celebration. It’s a beautiful burgundy with a tulle overlay. The funny thing is how she came up with this idea.
She was standing around with the skirt on and trying on different tops. In between looking through her closet, she pulled it up to cover the girls (instead of standing around half naked) and TADA, came up with the idea!!
Lesley shared that she’s done this at home with dresses/skirts but never to wear out in public. However, this time, she found a cardigan that incorporated the same colors and thought it worked wonderfully!! A belt gives it some waist definition and the strapless idea makes it feel so contemporary.
Heck, it’s an easy way to shorten a skirt that might be too long, also.
BTW, Lesley included extra credit as her purse is usually part of her wall decor in her guest bedroom. Which is a great reminder that our clothing or accessories can also be wall decorations.

I had so many ideas for this mix and match outside the box idea. In fact, one of my favorite things I’ve learned since I’ve been blogging is how you can style your dress either as a top or a skirt.
Yet I know many women still have trouble incorporating that onto their bodies. SO this time I took another route.
This sheer top I’ve worn when I was discussing halftees this last summer. Sheer pieces are always a plus in the heat of the summer because I can have some coverage yet it’s not too much.
Notice the gold rings on the sleeves. I wasn’t sure that wearing it as a scarf would work with those in place. Yet, they acted almost as scarf clips so I could thread the longer parts through it and keep it from being overwhelming.
Insider tip: I have discussed many scarf clip options on YouTube!
Secrets
The secret to discovering how pieces can mix and match like this is to stop categorizing them. It’s not any different than when I knitted a skirt for a friend, but I wasn’t there when I gave it to her. So she thought it was an infinity scarf.
Therefore, it can help to describe the item instead. For instance my top above, is a sheer piece of material with 2 openings. This sounds very much like an infinity scarf, so why not try it that way?? Depending on the material, it may or may not work, but you’ll never know until you try.
Another secret is to be open to new ideas. It may sound like the silliest thing ever to wear your long skirt as a dress, but you may be surprised at how good it looks.
It’s also very helpful to stop limiting yourself to only women’s clothing or the “size” you wear. I have found that some of my husbands shirts, can be the best tunics!!
