Purple for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: Paired with Grey

Quote of the day: “Great opportunity to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.” Anonymous

To me, color is the fun part of an outfit so I thought I’d do a series on the color purple.  Historically this color is relatively rare in nature, thus was more expensive to create.  Now we can find it in most everything!  So I grabbed a lilac jacket from my closet, a darker purple shirt from Nancy’s closet and lavender pants from mom’s closet to create and show some different combinations.  Since it’s starting to cool off where we live and hence we think darker colors, I started off this sequence with using the color grey as pairing to purple.

Jodie (50’s) Outfit: My jacket is that dusty lilac that in some lights actually looks grey! I used to wear it to the office, but I think it can also be worn as a casual piece!

Nancy (60’s) Outfit: Nancy’s shirt is a vibrant shade of purple that is a perfect backdrop to wear a statement necklace. Her sandals are a great multi colored shoe.

Linking up with Wearing with Wisdom, Top of the World & Style Me Weekly Link up.

Here’s some ideas to add purple to the bottom half of your body:

  • Jodie , your outfit is simply lovely on you ! One of your best looks . The other women are just visions in their color combos and adorable outfits as well . You all have some great clothes in your closets 🙂 Thank you for sharing this on Wearing with Wisdom !!!

    • I appreciate your kind words Leticia! I do love clothes and shopping, so this is so fun for me!! Thank you for hosting the link up!!

  • The shades of purple chosen for the outfits are just perfect. I love the pairing of the colour with whites and greys. Wondering how I am going to add this colour if I am not buying anything new for a whole year!

  • Purple and grey are best friends and you all showed that very well here.

  • You 3 lovely ladies have the perfect colouring for this purple and grey combination….beautiful!

  • Everyone looks so pretty in their purple! I really need to add more of this color to my closet 🙂

  • dan

Your lilac jacket is cute! Beautiful combination witj gray…your mom is a lovely person and she has got a friendly smile!

    • Thanks Dan…I’m such a fan of smiling…of course I could be biased based on my past profession!!

  • Grey is a much underrated colour and it works so well as a companion colour to many especially as sometimes black can look too harsh. Grey gives a softer edge. I used to think grey was boring (oh the folly of youth) but not any more. Love the purple with the grey.

    • Thanks Jacqueline!! I’m a big fan of grey since black looks horrible on me (of course, I still wear it…but hopefully not often). Funny how our perceptions of colors change over time (funny how our perceptions of everything change over time!!!!)

  • These outfits are very nice. I like your variations of the colour combo 🙂

  • I’m not a fan of purple…but paired with gray, I’m kind of loving it!! Well done! 🙂

  • MaryAnne

As always you gals look lovely. The softness of gray (or is it grey?) with purple is a nice combination. Thanks for always inspiring me to look in my closet to see what works.

    • Thanks for being such a great supporter!! When I have the time, it’s truly fun to scour the closet and come up with new “recipes”!!
