Gifted by Nike and Howl
There’s a good reason I’m talking about activewear for seniors. Getting older does not mean we should be slowing down. You hear it time and time again that “Motion is Lotion” and it’s an essential point of looking good. It’s not about losing weight or a number on the scale. It’s the little things like being able to walk to the places you need to go and climb the stairs at an event.
Quote of the day: “Life rewards action, not intelligence. Many brilliant people talk themselves out of getting started, and being smart doesn’t help very much without the courage to act. You can’t win if you’re not in the game.” James Clear
The quote made me ponder the fact that life is not a spectator sport. I believe wholeheartedly that our activity levels are important and wearing the right gear is just like getting dressed for our day. Finding quality activewear for seniors may not be on your radar, yet the truth is that what we wear affects how we feel.
Post facts: Rob and I were gifted this activewear for seniors by Nike and Howl. We were not paid to write or review them, and our opinions are not biased.
Nike is one of those companies that has been a part of my life since I was a teenager. I distinctly remember buying my first pair of Cortez sneakers when I was 14 and feeling so hip. Fast forward to this collaboration, and I was excited to wear this retro style again.
The brand has much more to offer in the category of activewear for seniors than just sneakers.
And I think it’s beneficial to see these items on people our age. Many companies are still only using younger models for their workout gear. I am impressed that Nike is showing a variety of sizes for their models and even has some (but not everything) in 1X-3X sizes.
If you are a thrifty person, then let me point you to the Clothing $50 and Under tab for women and men as well as the Sale tab.
Insider tip: Nike is also trying to keep up with the push towards sustainable fashion. You will see many items with a title above them that says Sustainable Materials, and in the details, they will tell you how it’s made.
And signing up as a member gives you free returns and exchanges.
Fitness gear is something we’ve showcased in the past. If you are looking for more inspiration for women’s activewear for seniors, then you’ve come to the right place.

Nike Activewear for Senior Men and Women: Jackets
In our active retirement community, we not only have a ton of fitness classes available to us and 7 different workout gyms we can use, but you will also see many people walking. Of course, many of them have a furry friend at the end of a leash, but it’s a great reason to think about activewear for seniors.
Since the two of us will be walking Piper every morning and evening no matter what the weather, having a jacket that will keep us comfortable and looking great is definitely essential.
Even if you don’t have a furry friend that needs to be taken outside, even a trip to the gym in the colder months may be the time you are looking for such a jacket.
Rob’s Review of Trail Aireez Jacket
Rob’s white jacket is incredibly lightweight for those cooler times when you don’t need lots of layers. It comes in 3 different colors and is water-repellent.
Because it’s so thin, it can be easily folded up and packed away when you are done wearing it. (It says it can be folded into the back pocket but honestly I didn’t have great luck with that.)
It’s a longer jacket and includes a hood. Rob would tell you it runs big and is on the longer side. (Rob is 5’6″).
Women’s Jackets
My jacket is not available anymore, but there are a variety of activewear jackets on their site. I chose this one because it was a cropped version that will be very versatile once it cools down.
Since mine is not on the site, I’m linking to other Nike jackets instead.
Insider tip: Activewear jackets are the perfect example of how you shouldn’t categorize your clothing. Even though you buy this item as a workout jacket, it can be worn for everyday. Don’t forget that you can also layer a vest over it.
What Do Older Ladies Wear to the Gym?
In our community, I have seen all kinds of outfits at our gyms including jeans and a t-shirt as well as specific activewear for seniors.
I used to think that it was silly to spend money on workout wear when you’re just going to sweat in it.
But after having some of the new quality activewear for seniors, you start to realize that the newer technology of materials and details can make your workouts better.
Not only are the shoes more comfortable but many of Nike’s clothing has Dri-FIT technology that moves sweat away from the skin for quicker evaporation.
Insider tip: It’s no different than newer jeans having spandex in them. Or our modern suitcases having swivel wheels. These updates can make things so much better.
Review of Nike’s Women’s Activewear for Senior Living
Let me give you the inside scoop on how these Nike Activewear items worked for someone my age.
Sports Bra –Nike “Swoosh Wrap“: As a woman with a hefty chest (I wear a traditional bra size of 30D) I like having support with my sports bras. I chose this Swoosh Wrap bra because I loved the idea that my cleavage wouldn’t be showing especially when I lean down.
My bra is available in 2 different prints and also in solid colors. I consider it True-to-Size as I got a S and it fits great. They do have a different way of sizing so check out the size guide.
Shorts–Nike “High-Waisted 2 in 1 Shorts“: When it’s this hot outside, shorts are the way to go. But again, I don’t want to be flashing the neighborhood, so I appreciate the 2 in 1 shorts. For those who struggle with chub rub, these are a great option.
These shorts are available in white also and I like it when the attached shorts are longer than the outside shorts. Going by the size guide, I got the XS, but I am returning these to get the next size bigger because I like them a little looser.
Sneakers–Nike “Cortez“: Even though these are the retro style of sneakers I had as a teenager, the comfort level is far superior. They are much more cushioned and thus super comfy. I got my normal size and might suggest going up a half size if you would be wearing them with socks.
Insider tip: Nike has a COOL feature where you can design your own color combinations and details on some of their sneakers. Look for the Design Your Own under color options. This is available in this Cortez style.

Men’s Options of Workout Gear for Older Adults
I realize that most guys aren’t as worried about what they are wearing for their workouts. However, guys appreciate comfort as much as we women, so the Dri-FIT technology is ideal.
Review of Nike’s Mens Activewear for Seniors
Rob chose these items knowing that dog walking is our daily activity. We also participate in water aerobics, pilates, and weight lifting. And these pieces will work for any time we go to the gym.
T-shirt— Nike Graphic T-shirt: Rob loves a T-shirt for any and everyday. In fact, he will wear them under a dressier shirt even for nice occasions. He thought the dog graphic was too cute for us now that we have Piper.
It’s available in white too, but in limited sizing in both. The only drawback about the graphic is that it doesn’t breath like the cotton portion of the shirt.
Shorts— Nike “Skate Cargo Shorts“: Cargo shorts are seriously perfect for walking the dog so you have a place for the dog treats, our phones, and our keys.
These come in two colors and the pockets are generous. They are cotton and spandex so therefore didn’t shrink in the wash.
Sneakers–Nike “Pegasus Turbo“: When Rob wore these for the first time, his comment was “No wonder basketball players can jump so high”. The cushion is impressive and there are loads of color options.
Rob reports these fit true to size and would absolutely buy them again.
Socks: Nike “Cushioned No Show Socks“: You wouldn’t think socks would make a difference, but these not only have sweat-wicking power, but they have cushioning also. They are touted as no-show socks, but I might disagree with that detail as seen by the photos.
Become a Nike Member
Nike does have a Nike Member program that is free to join. You can get birthday rewards, early access to new lines, and exclusive promos.
Insider tip: Becoming a Nike Member can be beneficial if you like to save money. Members get free shipping on orders over $50.
It’s also nice to know that Nike has a 60-day return period. Especially with sneakers, you don’t always know the fit factor until they are worn many times. I was able to return my lilac shorts for a larger size easily at the store with my order number.
