Red White and Blue Outfits for Every Day
Red white and blue outfits can be worn for every day for any woman.
Quote of the day: “There’s only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” Aldous Huxley
I’ve been guilty of not wearing certain colors together during the year because it reminds me of certain holidays. For example, I will stop myself from pairing red and green, or black and orange because I don’t want to appear too costumy.
Red, white and blue outfits can bring up that same thought pattern. Even though we went all out in our patriotic outfits earlier, I wanted another option. So I challenged the three of us to put together these colors for an everyday look. And yes, I’m on my tip toes in the photo above because Nancy was kidding around that she was almost taller than I was since I was wearing flats.

Why I Wore This Outfit
I do consider jeans and denim a common neutral. So really that means in my head, it’s not really blue per se. Therefore, I’m just focusing on the red and white top as the focal point. Since I was trying not to call attention to the fact I was wearing red, white, and blue, I then added metallic neutrals for the shoes, purse, and earrings.

For some reason, I absolutely love the look of the off-the-shoulder shirts. Not that I have many, because I have yet to find a strapless bra that works wonderfully for me. Sure, I can manage this one for a couple of hours, but it’s not like I forget it’s there.
What Makes This Work
Wearing a skirt always seems easier in the warmer months for me. Since I’ve given up caring about the paleness of my legs, it’s so easy to embrace skirts and dresses in the summer. So I figure that a denim skirt is an easy way to be casual, yet stay cooler. And the newer denim skirts have spandex. Just like your newer jeans. So if you haven’t purchased one lately, you might like them better than in the past. Remember, denim is having its day, so there are even knee-length denim skirts or midi denim skirts that might tickle your fancy.
Interesting Tidbit
This top is actually not very fitted. So for these photos, I decided to knot it through the belt loops on each side of the skirt. It looks great; however, it doesn’t stay put because the shirt isn’t super long. I showed this method of getting your shirts to fit better in a video. I wore a knit t-shirt using this technique with no problem. But this shirt didn’t work so well. Therefore, when I got home, I ended up taking in the side seams.

Why Nancy Wore This Outfit
Nancy started by choosing this blue tunic from her closet. She’s worn it before with other white pants on the blog. The original pants she was going to wear were capris, and the proportion didn’t quite seem right. However, she wanted a pair of pants that were short enough to show off the ankle straps of the shoes.

When Nancy did wear this tunic before, she paired it with navy shoes. Of course, I love the pop of red with this outfit, but there are many other options. If you prefer to match your shoes to your pants, then white shoes are making a comeback. If you don’t have white, then nude shoes are always a perfect neutral.
Since it is summer, you can also try something crazy and wear a pair of yellow shoes. Even Julia tried this recently!
What Makes This Work
I’m a firm believer that an asymmetrical top is fabulous on every body shape. It has a vertical dimension that helps along with the fact that it’s interesting.
And just like I described for my mom below, you may point out that current rules suggest a tighter fit of pants with a flowy tunic. However, not everyone loves tight-fitting pants. This can be another great reason to research some asymmetrical shirts which will be a great focal point.
Interesting Tidbit
Nancy tells me that she usually wears this matching red necklace and earrings with a red outfit. However, today she decided to step out of her normal box and try them with this blue tunic. I think that’s the best practice for all of us. You never know how versatile pieces are until you experiment with them. And doesn’t the red really pop nicely against the bright blue?

Why Charlotte Wore This Outfit
The tunic sparked this combination. My mom has worn it on the blog before when we put together outfits for upcoming vacations because it’s definitely one of those pieces that get your attention.
The print on the tunic is red white and blue, so we experimented with pairing it with black pants. The blue in the tunic is dark enough that it looks black sometimes. And even though this was for an everyday look, it could easily be for a fancier occasion too.
How You Could Change This Outfit
My mom has worn this tunic with a multitude of pants and leggings. Just the Sunday before these photos she wore it with her red leggings like she did last year. I’m sure most of us think of a tunic with leggings, so black leggings would be a popular and inexpensive choice. And if you were trying to keep the outfit more casual, then black sneakers would work for any person.
What Makes This Work
You could argue that because the tunic has so much volume, my mom should be wearing tighter pants. And I could see that point. Yet I would argue that that the overall look is very becoming. As much as I love details, sometimes I think we get too worried about each and every one of them. An overall nice look goes a long way.
Interesting Tidbit
My mom purchased this tunic from the gift shop on her Panama Canal cruise ship. She’s sure it was mistakenly mismarked because she was able to buy it for only $19. That’s my mom for you. She’s not only the queen of gift store purchases but getting the best deals too.
Tips & Tricks
Wearing red white and blue in your outfits doesn’t have to scream 4th of July. Although that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Yet, if you want to tone it down somewhat, here are a couple of thoughts.
Denim is blue, yet it’s common every day. Therefore I’d consider it a neutral so you really only notice the red and white.
Add in a different neutral like black or tan. Another neutral can take away from thinking of only the three colors in the outfit.
Or heck, do something that none of us tried here, like adding in a totally different color. Four colors can work fabulously together. For example, something pink or green might look wonderful.
