Remarkable Ways of How Characters Inspire Our Looks

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

For my Ageless Style group, Bo came up with the prompt of showcasing characters. The three of us all picked different characters from both movies and television. With these outfits, I extrapolated that there are 3 different ways of how characters inspire our looks.

Quote of the day: “You are precisely as big as what you love and precisely as small as what you allow to annoy you.” Nature’s God

The best thing about life in modern times is how there is inspiration everywhere with the internet, social media as well as the tried and true movies and television. No longer are we limited by clothing catalogs, magazines, and the people in our community to figure out different ways to wear our clothes.
Many times especially as we get older, we get so serious about how to put outfits together. Yet having fun is the spice of life, and with this prompt of how characters inspire our looks, we had a great giggle or two.

Here’s what I came up with regarding how characters inspire our looks:
1-Copy the look
2-Inspiration for colors
3-Try a new vibe

I remember a friend commenting once how inspiration doesn’t have to be an exact copy, and that’s something fabulous to remember. We want to take a good idea that we see, but put our own stamp of individuality on it.
What this means is you don’t HAVE to go buy new things all of the time. I bet you can find some “close enough” items in your closet.

I’ve written other fun posts about how characters inspire our looks if you want some other laughs

Charlotte: Copy the Look from the Book Club Character

My mom decided to copy the character, Vivian from Book Club: The Next Chapter played by Jane Fonda. My mom is inspired by Jane because she is an older woman who is still making headlines.
Vivian’s outfit when they traveled to Italy, in the movie, was one that Charlotte could easily copy with items she had in her wardrobe.

Even when you use the idea to copy a character’s look, not every detail will be exactly alike, yet you still get the overall feel of the look.

Stylish option of how characters inspire our looks

It’s hard to see in the inspiration photo, but Jane Fonda’s character is wearing a wide belt over her leopard top. And my mom had a wide, suede belt that she had made years ago.

This was the kind of look that my mom likes because it was very matchy-matchy.

You might read that Leopard is a print that isn’t trending right now. However, hopefully, you love your clothing more than throwing it away when an article says something like that.
It’s such a classic print and works for women of any age.

Jodie: Inspired By Color From Legally Blonde

Another way of how characters inspire our looks is through the colors of the outfits and even coming up with different color combinations than you normally put together.
This can be the best way to come up with new color pairings for what you have in your closet.

For this look, I decided to channel my inner, Elle, from Legally Blonde. We had recently seen a community children’s group put on this play, and it reminded me how much I enjoyed Elle as a character.
Reese Witherspoon’s character may have been interested in fashion and her appearance, but she had a good head on her shoulders and used her smarts. Hmmm, hopefully, that sounds like me.

Having fun with how characters inspire our looks

Heck, just to make this outfit more fun, I added “Bruiser” in my purse.

And don’t you just love it when two pieces are basically the same color to create a “suit”? I’ve worn this dress many years ago when we discussed kimonos as part of a fancy look.
Bright pink takes center stage lately, and I’ve seen so many pink blazers for sale. Hopefully, you have one in your closet.

Lesley: Channeling Carrie Bradshaw’s Vibe

If it’s one thing we learned from Sex & The City, it’s that Carrie Bradshaw can rock any look she wants. In all reality, I wish more of us thought that way.

Lesley took this as the third way of how characters inspire our outfits. While Sarah Jessica Parker’s character may be wearing totally different elements, it’s the whimsical vibe that we can channel.
Even though Lesley never saw the TV series when it was running, she loves the idea that Carrie would wear what she wanted with confidence.

Woman over 70 with how characters inspire our looks

One thing in particular that the Sex & the City character showcased many times was a tulle skirt. Even though many older women would consider this skirt wrong for their style, there is just something about them that makes the world stand up and notice you. (And I consider that a good thing).

And before you write off the whole idea of a tulle skirt, just think about how you could wear it:
1-For any special events
2-Birthday celebration
3-New Year’s Eve
4-Halloween
This list shows enough reasons to snag one the next time you see a great deal. They come in all kinds of lengths, styles, and colors and you’ll wear them more than you realize.

For some inexpensive tulle skirts, make sure to check out Amazon, or scour your local thrift store.

BTW, what you don’t realize about Lesley’s top is that it’s actually a tunic. She’s wearing it one of the ways I talked about in the article asking if tunics are still in style.
I also want to point out the Prada purse she found at Goodwill. We have no idea if it is authentic or not, but it really doesn’t matter. It’s a wonderful purse to carry.
