Wearing Your Scarf as a Bathing Suit Cover Up

Quote of the day: “Happiness is a product of attitude and thought.  It comes from you, not to you.” Richard Daly

Adding a large scarf for travelling also can fill the need for a bathing suit cover-up. Unfold it and then tie the ends around your waist for a long skirt.  If your scarf is large enough, I’ve even seen this done wrapped around your neck with one arm through and then the other ends tied near your legs—not as flattering, but it works!

Needless to say, we decided to wear a t-shirt over our bathing suit for this post! This is one time an infinity scarf wouldn’t work for this objective.  A wool one would be a little strange also–ha ha!  We all wore our same scarf for the airplane ride (here).

50’s Travel Wear Scarf: A hat is another “must have” on any sunny/beachy/tropical trip for me.  My skin does not know the definition of the word “tan.”

60’s Scarf: Nancy said she probably wouldn’t ever wear earrings to go to the baths in Budapest, but I decided we needed a little bling for the pictures!

70’s Scarf: Mom’s t-shirt says it all: “Will Work for Shoes.” Anyone else feel that way?

Taking your scarf with you for travelling is smart since they can be so versatile. The large ones may seem like a lot of fabric, but how perfect to use them as a bathing suit cover up also! How else do you wear yours?

Travel fun for all!!

Here are some bathing suit cover ups if you didn’t want to use your scarf that you took as travel wear:

  • Kathleen McDermott

SO cute as wrap skirts. Big scarves are a must for a trip. My dear cousin is embarking on a 26 day cruise of the Mediterranean. My packing advice was bring lots of big scarves (especially the ones I’ve bought for her 😊.) As you’re showing, you can use them so many ways and they add such style and pop to an outfit. And they take up so little room. Love Charlotte’s T-shirt and earrings!

You speak truth, Kathleen!! Either that or you buy them when you’re shopping in the other countries–ha ha! But you need at least one for the plane!!

  • I have several wraps and LOVE them! This was such a useful post – showing an easy way to change up a look. Thank you!

  • So cute! Love this idea! Thanks for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday & I hope your weekend is wonderful!

  • Thanks for reminding me – I really want to get a sarong before my beach trip in 2 weeks!

  • I love the versatility of great wrap, and your hat is fabulous!
    Chic on the Cheap

  • I’ve used scarves before as a bathing suit cover up, so I enjoyed this post, and realized that I now need to try what you did with putting your coverup scarves with an outfit (on the plane ride). Thanks for the idea!

    • Thanks Paula….and tomorrow I’ll be using them again!!!

  • happinessatmidlife

I recently bought some large scarves for this purpose and worn as scarf. Love all 3 looks!

Would love for you to stop by & join TBT Fashion link up.

    • It’s great versatility…don’t you think? Thanks for the invite…I linked up!!

  • Nancy Siegel

Very clever idea and so many dazzling scarves for sale now.

    • Thanks Aunt Nancy! There are so many cute scarves…but you probably only need about a dozen to fit most ensembles….unless you’re my mother-then you need 100!

  • I love how everything matches so well with all of you…right down to the earrings! XO
    -Lauren Blair

    • This comment made me laugh….well, of course, everything matches…it’s ingrained in my mother’s DNA and thus passed down to me and I push that onto Nancy! I’m actually trying very hard to stop matching all the time….am I crazy or what?

  • MaryAnne

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Wonderful idea, you all look so tropical. Now where’s the beach?
    Mom’s tee shirt 2 2 2 cute!

    • Hah…I’ve never been a beach girl (too many creepy/crawly things in the water)…give me a pool anyday!! Don’t we all need a t-shirt like mom’s?
