New Year's Eve with an adult sleepover

Sharing Quick and Effortless Breakfasts After an Adult Sleepover

An adult sleepover may not be on your list of activities for New Years day or any day, but there are certainly times that we have guests stay over night. And it’s nice to have something quick and easy for them to eat the next morning.

Quote of the day: “We must not allow other people’s limited perceptions to define us.” Virginia Satir

It’s no secret that I’m not a fantastic cook, and since this isn’t a food blog, you may wonder why I would even include the idea of what to serve for breakfast after an adult sleepover.
Yet sometimes a blind squirrel does find a nut as I always like to joke. Hey, I’m not a “real” stylist either. We are real women, styling real clothes. So here are the same “real” women talking about breakfast.

For this unusual holiday season, I have touched on activities that you might find helpful

So having an adult sleepover could be a wonderful way to ring in the new year without the stress of anyone driving home. Of course that means a little planning on what to have for breakfast that will be good for everyone.

Welcoming 2021

Nancy’s Favorite

In Nancy’s words, “Here is a recipe for my favorite go to breakfast.  I haven’t tried cilantro because I never have it on hand but it sounds wonderful.  I also don’t use red pepper flakes.  I happen to do a poached egg because I have a single egg poacher that is handy to use.  For company, I would do other eggs or practice poached eggs ahead of time!!!  This recipe narrative also has good suggestions for other options for the toast and avocado.  You could even have an avocado bar!!
I have served this for company-one other person two different times!!”

My two cents to Nancy’s suggestion because Rob and I have been having this a lot lately. Sometimes I have to put my avocados in the fridge so they stay the perfect ripeness. And then it makes the avocado toast cold even if the toast is right out of the toaster. So I started heating up the avocado after it was mashed for about 20 seconds in the microwave.
I always add dried cilantro if we don’t have fresh!!!

Jodie & Rob’s New Favorite Breakfast

Growing up I was a cereal girl. My mom used to let me choose whichever cereal I wanted and I would scour the aisle looking for the one with the best prize (remember those days?). Truthfully Apple Jacks was one of my favorites. But as an adult, Rob and I almost always had Cheerios in our cupboard because it only has 1 gram of sugar.

Interesting fact: If you get another version of Cheerios, they aren’t always as “healthy.” We had a Trader Joe’s version at a friend’s house and it had much more sugar in it.

Now that Rob is practicing a more plant heavy way of eating, we have had to change our thoughts about breakfast. In the past we would have some fruit in our cereal, but there were no vegetables to be seen. So now we always have some sort of smoothie to hide vegies in.
On top of that we have also found a wonderful “new” cereal. We cook sweet potatoes and mash them ahead of time (I add in some cinnamon and nutmeg when I’m mashing them). We then add our almond milk and heat it in the microwave before adding nuts and some fruit. My favorite is adding pomegranates and pecans, but we’ve also added berries and walnuts. Rob likes to top it off with some extra nutmeg on top.

Charlotte’s Past Breakfast Memory

Charlotte shares “I remember going with a group for July  4th weekend and each was responsible for a meal.  I made a Swedish Tea-ring ahead of time and it went over well- except some of the guys needed something a little more substantial.”
I remember as kid my mom Charlotte making this tea ring many times. She always loved baking bread and we would go around the house trying to find the warmest spot so it would rise!! Yet, I have to laugh because my husband Rob wouldn’t think this would be enough for breakfast either!!

Outfits

Since you see a ton of matching family jammies, I thought it would be fun to join in on that idea!! These nightshirts were found at Kohls. They don’t have the exact ones available now with the collar like this, but the ones they DO have include the socks.
I ended up buying the socks at Target and even Rob got a pair!!
The fun headbands and 2021 drinking glasses were purchased at Safeway.
