Tops Made Especially for Women Over 40

Covered Perfectly Tops

So what makes a top better for us older women? The company Covered Perfectly thinks they have it all figured out! The whole idea of the tops that are made under the Covered Perfectly Brand is that they cover the parts you want covered just perfectly. That means the sleeves are a little longer and even the body portion is longer. They also make sure that the material is super soft against your skin.

The three of us were lucky enough to partner with Covered Perfectly back in the spring of this year. However, some of the tops we wore then (you can view those posts here, here, and here) are not available anymore. That’s because when you have a good product, it can be hard to keep them in stock.

Thus the three of us were given some newer styles of tops to review for your pleasure. I wanted to show the same tops styled 2 different ways so you could get an idea of the different possibilities! And the greatest part of this is that you can benefit also. Jodie’s Touch of Style readers get a 20% discount on up to two items! Use the discount code JF20 when you check out at Covered Perfectly. There are several styles to choose from, and the discount will apply on up to two items. You may also take advantage of the buy 2 get the 3rd  FREE special. Only one of the discounts will work.

For some extra variety, check out Cathy and the shirt form Covered Perfectly that she wore here! Cathy is another over 50 blogger and is wearing a different style of shirt as she goes to the park with her granddaughter!

Jodie (50’s) Casual Outfit: I chose this keyhole tunic for my top. The most popular way to wear a tunic is with leggings, so I pulled out my LuLaRoe print leggings!!

I think of the cut outs in a top as a newer, contemporary detail. What is really nice is that they are positioned so that my bra straps don’t show.

The body of the tunic is slightly flared which makes for a flattering silhouette, and absolutely perfect to pair with any leggings or skinny jeans.

For reference, I’m wearing a size small and I am 5’2″. The hem comes to mid thigh on me, whereas it looks a little shorter on the models on the company website.

Jodie (50’s) Dressy Outfit: I actually tried wearing the top as a dress for this category in my initial attempt. You can see the original photo in the collage at the top of this post and the first one below. However, even with the extra coverage from the OTK boots, I felt like it was just too short for comfort. And I wasn’t sure that women my age could relate.

So I kept the same components, but added a swing skirt under the tunic that was the same color. I was going to try a pencil skirt, but I ended up liking this one better. I felt like it almost looked like a one piece dress with 2 layers.

Then I wanted to see about adding a skirt over top of the tunic. Because the material of the tunic is very soft and drapey, and the skirt was an a-line, I think it turned out just fine. So go ahead and tuck in your tunic from Covered Perfectly—then you can treat it just like a normal top.

Nancy (60’s) Casual Outfit: Nancy’s shirt is called the Twofer. Of course it took me a couple minutes to figure out that it was just one top made to look like a top & jacket layered together.

The shirts are attached at the side seam, so they drape very nicely.

And you can see how the back portion is longer than the front. Since Nancy is only 5’0″ tall, even the front portion is long enough for her to pair with her leggings.

The under layer of this top that has the cowl at the neckline is quite generous. It was great that we were able to tuck part of it into Nancy’s bra so when she leaned forward, there was no exposure.

Shirt/Jacket Combined: Covered Perfectly (here also comes in black & white, white & black and black & snow leopard)~~Leggings: (similar here)~~Boots: (similar here in a suede)~~Earrings: (similar here)

Nancy (60’s) Dressy Outfit:  For Nancy’s fancier outfit, I pair this shirt with her velvet trousers & heels! Now if you’re wondering why someone would want a shirt that is a 2 in 1, I think it could be perfect for some women.

If you’re one of those people that love the look of a jacket, yet find it too constricting; then this could be perfect for you.

Or if you’re a woman who tends to be warm all of the time, then this top could look layered without having all of the extra warmth!

This top comes in a couple other color pairings, if you aren’t a fan of green! But beware, I’ve been seeing a lot of green in the stores lately!

Charlotte (70’s) Casual Outfit: I picked out the square neck top for my mom. For the casual pairing, I added her leopard print jeans to create a fun element to this top.

Fashionably Shirts for Women over 40.

Like all of Covered Perfectly’s tops, these are made to be long in the torso. My mom is 5’4″, so we decided to tie up the side with an elastic to make it look like ruching.

The material in these tops are a dream to wash. They don’t wrinkle when I take them out of the dryer, and yet they stay so soft!

Shirt: Covered Perfectly (here also in black, white and navy)~~Jeans: DG2 (similar here in a skinny version)~~Shoes: (similar here with a large price tag)~~Scarf: (similar here)

Charlotte (70’s) Dressy Outfit: Since the top is a solid color, I decided to add in a print skirt. Most of us think of a maxi skirt as a summery item. But since you could add layers under the skirt, it can be perfect for cooler days, too! (And notice that the Covered Perfectly ad on my sidebar features my mom—isn’t that cute?)

Mom just made this print maxi skirt for herself. She had extra material leftover, so in future posts, you may notice more of this print!!

My mom’s decolletage is so pretty so I wanted to show it off. I know mom always feels the need to cover it up with jewelry. However, you can see that you notice the gorgeous color of the top without the extra accessories.

Tops like these are great, versatile wardrobe basics. Beautiful, simple cut, graceful drape, flattering neckline and pretty colors. You’ve styled each them so nicely.

    • They really are a basic. I know many times, I tend to lean towards getting the “fun” and “interesting” pieces, yet one always needs some basics!!

  • Christina Amore

I struggle with the ‘clothes for a certain age’ tag on things. Especially your outfit! I think a lot of people would think woman of a certain age shouldn’t wear it. Whereas I think you look adorable and your age doesn’t matter to me at all!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s true—sometimes the “labels” don’t help at all!! And really, that is the whole idea behind my blog—style is ageless!! Most items can be worn by women of any age—as long as they fit right!!!

  • Great styling Jodie. The same issue as I had with my cream dress. You solved it in a similar way. (I have to say that just the dress with the over the knee boots is bloody sexy.) Your mom looks great in that maxi dress.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Well that made me laugh Greetje!! My husband did like the dress by itself, but I have to admit that i felt pretty naked without the skirt under it—especially when I’d bend over(ha ha). I suppose if I really wanted to wear it like that, I’d opt for some workout shorts underneath it!

  • PetiteOver40

Such flattering tops on all three of you! 💕💕💕

For what it’s worth, I understand your hesitation to wear your top as a dress, but honestly, I didn’t realize that you weren’t wearing thicker leggings with it until I read your post. I actually loved the look on you–those purple OTK boots are stunning with that blue! Adding the skirt to it was a great way to provide modesty and comfort!

    Hugs 💜

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s funny, because I put that first outfit on and we took the photos. But even then wearing it around the house afterwards, I realized I had to be VERY careful when i bent over….ha ha! Then when I looked at all of the photos, I realized you could see my slip in a couple of them (I needed a slip so the tunic didn’t stick to my tights)—so then I decided maybe a little too short in reality!!

      • I put a tight, stretchy short pencil skirt underneath it.

        • Jodie Filogomo

  • Kreativk Net

All three tops look great on each one of you and I always love when I can combine a top with many different bottoms!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Me too, Katrin!!
It seems too boring to me to always wear one piece with the same thing! But there are times it’s a challenge to figure out different combinations! I think these tops really lend themselves to being creative since they are all a solid color and fun!

  • Love all the styling options you showed!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Darlene!

  • Mother Daughter

Great styling I like all of the tops. The tunic is so cute over the leggings. I like to wear something that covers my backside well when I wear leggings and this one works very nicely.I love the elastic tie trick and use it some on some dresses I have.

    • Jodie Filogomo

My mom usually just shortens hers since she’s so talented that way….but I think it’s nice to have a little variety of lengths in the closet!
Besides—it certainly stays tucked in better when it’s long!

  • I just love those tops. I have a hard time finding tops that fit. I’m 5 foot and everything that covers my mid-section (the one thing I’m not liking these days) make me feel so frumpy because they are so long on me. I love love those boots too! xo

    • Jodie Filogomo

      I totally get that Carla!
I feel like I’ve shortened almost all of Nancy’s tops in the last couple of years for this same reason!!

  • You have sown how to put that top to work perfectly Jodie. I really like it with the skirt and the boots. I want your boots! X

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Laurie!!
I never thought I’d be wearing OTK boots—but since I bought this pair, I fell in love with them. I think, to me, they are modern and fun! (Of course, that meant I had to get another pair—ooops!!)

  • Maria Flux

Perfect! It will be a nice gift for my mom! The square top looks nice!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for stopping by Maria!! They are great shirts!!

  • These are just the kind of tops I love! Longer length, flattering and soft! They all look great. Gemma x

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Gemma!!

  • All three tops are fabulous, and you did such a nice way styling them different ways, Jodie!

As you probably know, tunics are my favorite, and I just love yours. The details really make it special. And, again, I love how creative you got! I love that you added the skirt in the same color to make the tunic work with the OTK boots, and it also looks great tucked in! And I would of course wear it all the time with leggings… 🙂

    Andrea’s Wellness Notes

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Andrea!
It fun, when you have time, to really look in your closet and see how different pieces can work with others. I can see how it’d be frustrating though when you don’t have the extra time!!

      • You know, that’s such a good point! It’s a little bit like cooking for me. I love to do it when I have time, but after a stressful day/week, it’s the last thing I want do… That’s why I think it’s so important to plan my outfits for the week. When I don’t do it (select, try on and then hang them on the right side in my closet), things go a lot less smoothly… 🙂

        • Jodie Filogomo

          I totally understand Andrea!
I used to wear the same trousers all week long, and just change out the tops/blazers—it made it easier to realize what to take to the cleaners and for planning.
And you’re so right about cooking too!

  • I especially love the tunic top but they are all gorgeous!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Gilly!
I was glad to get this tunic because I don’t have that many in my closet—I have a feeling, it’s going to get worn tons!

  • Tessy Onyia

Oh wow! these outfits are drop dead gorgeous! am so loving them that I want them all..Jodie welldone!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Tessy—how nice of you to say that!

  • Amy D. Christensen

These outfits are simply beautiful. The simplicity of a single, sleek, well fitted top with the bottoms you showed here both casual and dressy is such a great formula for a nice looking outfit. Bravo, Jodie. Well done! I love those tall boots you have on and they look so cute with the blue of the shirt and skirt. What a great idea! – Amy

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Amy!!
What you said is so true….there is simplicity in these shirts—the aspect of which many women love!!

  • I love the different ways you wore these tee shirts. They are all so versatile

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Michelle!!
It just takes some creativity to figure out more than one way to wear an item, huh? But that can be fun sometimes!!

  • Laura

All three of these tops look wonderful on all of you! They are so versatile and I like the unique cuts of them! It really elevates each look!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Laura!!
It has been a wonderful company to work with both times.

  • mummabstylish

Some lovely looks here, loving the otk boots – wow they’re cute. All of you look great in these shots. Jacqui

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Jacqui!!

  • Oohhh the tunic with the OTK boots! LOVE! <3 It looks great without the extra skirt, but if you're more comfy with extra coverage then you rock it that way too. 🙂 I'm definitely having boot-envy though. I'm 5'11" and it's really hard to find OTK boots tall enough.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hmmm…I never thought of that being too tall for the boots!! That’s craziness!!
Thanks for the wonderful comment Natalie!! I certainly didn’t think it was too short in the mirror, but I thought the pictures sorta showed otherwise!! I guess it’ll all depend on where I’m going and with who!!

  • I adore you Mom’s homemade maxi!

I LOVE your OTK boots! Sexahy Baby! I like it without the skirt. Heck you’re wearing tights…that’s coverage : )

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Suzanne!!
That was my original thought the the tights & OTK boots would be enough. But in some of the photos you could see my very short slip showing—so I backtracked!! It was also a little iffy bending over—ha ha!!!
But if I were looking for some action—I bet it would work?

  • ADA

All you ladies look colorful and scrumptious in your Fall shades. Love the 60s’ model’s yummy and cozy velvet pants. That cut-out swing tunic is so cute Jodie. The second look is my favorite with the Burgundy OTK boots (minus the skirt underneath).

Hope all is well. <3 Ada.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Ada!!
I think it’s so fun to try to make one item look good for a couple different ways!! Might as well make use of what we have, right?
      I really appreciate your thoughts!!

  • I know I’m in the minority for most women in my age group, but I love wearing short skirts and dresses so my favorite way you styled this top is as a dress with the OTK boots. It looks amazing that way!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Amy!!
It’s nice to hear you say that!

  • Judy Gramith

Clearly this company has done its research and come up with a great concept. The versatility of these tops makes them especially attractive and they appear to have designs that appeal to many different tastes as well.
You did a GREAT job of showing all of the attributes of these products Jodie!! Your styling talents are impressive with each of the tops.
I love ALL the fun versions of your cut out top but my favorite is the one featuring those cute geometric print leggings.
Nancy appears to love her top and looks fabulous in it. I’m betting she wears it often in the season ahead.
Charlotte is just too cute in both stylings.
Her new maxi is beautiful! Charlotte’s girlfriends are lucky to have this confident fashion role model to inspire them!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It is amazing that there are companies out there that actually tailor their products to our age groups! And how would we have know about them before the internet & blogging?
When I ordered this tunic, I was hoping it’d go well with these leggings—I’m one of those terrible people that buy something, and then try to figure out what I can style with it!! But then it’s a challenge, right?
Thanks for all of your inspiring words—I forwarded them to both mom & Nancy so they can enjoy them too!!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

Love how much versatility you showed with your top. a great idea for a company.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Tracey!
My mom was commenting on how long all the shirts are, but better too long than short!

  • All the tops are very nice, but I like most Nancy’s outfits. The color of her top is really eye candy. I really like the color!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know, Olya—-I really love the green too!!
Thanks for stopping by and giving your voice!!

  • Such a great idea for a company. I love finding tops that cover a little more than normal, so these sound great. Love the cutouts and color of yours!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Laura!
      It is an interesting concept!!

  • Great looks! I especially love the cut out top you’re wearing!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Annessa!!

  • Your look with the burgundy boots is fabulous! You look absolutely stunning!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Nancy!
I have been amazed at how much I love my OTK boots—in fact I just bought another pair!! I figure you can’t call me frumpy when I’m wearing OTK boots–ha ha!

  • The swing skirt was something I would have never (ever, ever) thought of adding, but it was my favorite of all the looks. Great vision, Jodie!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Well trust me Em—it took me several attempts to get to this one too!! And I was so surprised too!!
I think one of the things I’ve learned in these last couple years of blogging, is to play in my closet and try unusual combinations!!
