Showcasing Pool Style for the Summer at any Age
Pool style is something we should look forward to when the weather gets hot. Yet the comment I hear most often is that women don’t feel comfortable in a swim suit. Even worse the task of finding a suit is considered brutal.
Quote of the day: “Your success will be determined by your own confidence and fortitude.” Michelle Obama
Confession: We didn’t take these photos for a blog post. We were gifted the swim suits from Rotita for an Instagram post only, which posted here. Yet all three of us were SO impressed with these that I wanted to share. No, I don’t receive any commission from this company nor did I get paid to write this.
I just wanted to share our thoughts and findings. And since we liked them so much, I did ask for a discount code if you are interested: Rotita2020 (20%OFF over $40).
BTW, I know you’re going to go to the site and think it’s only for young girls. THAT’S exactly why I wanted to try these out. And we were happily shocked!!
And a huge thank you to Linda, Lelsey’s friend, for allowing us to use her pool.
I saw a Facebook post recently that really hit home:
Imagine being 75 and you’re sat thinking about your life and how you never went swimming in the ocean on a warm night because your thighs jiggled. Imagine realizing you never laughed until you couldn’t breathe because your teeth weren’t straight or white enough. You never embraced the sun on the beach because of the stretch marks on your stomach and your hips. You never allowed yourself to let go and have fun because the pressure to look perfect consumed you. Imagine being 75 and realizing you’ve hidden yourself away for the fear of being real. Imagine realizing all the years you wasted hating yourself, but now it’s too late to go swim in the ocean late at night. Now it hurts to laugh for more than a few seconds and you’re too weak to travel to the beach. Imagine realizing all this time you were perfect the way you were, but now it’s too late to do anything about it. Don’t let that happen. Live now, as you are. You deserve to realize you’re enough, and always have been, before you’re 75.
This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about pool style and loving our bodies. And hopefully it won’t be the last. Why? Because at least where we live now, it’s a huge part of our life. When it’s over 100 degrees most days, pools are the place to be.
In fact, I have more swim suits in my collection now than I think I’ve had in my entire life.
Another confession. I thought these suits were going to be an example of the idea that you get what you pay for. Nope!
Jodie’s 2 Piece
A couple of friends on Instagram collaborated on a fun video throwing a beach ball early in the summer. And one of the women (who is my age) inspired me to get a 2 piece. So that’s what I ordered. This halter neck rainbow set.
Why did I think I needed a 2 piece? Because we are swimming so much, I thought it’d be fun to be able to mix and match my suits by getting more 2 piece versions.
What I appreciated was the price was for the set. I like the idea of being able to order the bottoms and tops separately if you are sized that way, however, the price many times is even more than a one piece. And this set was under $30.
Hats as Part of Pool Style
Being more conscious of the sun and it’s harmful rays have made all three of us add to our hat collection too. Sure, most people go to the beach to get tan, but here in Arizona, it’s all about staying cool. At least in this stage of our life.
Lesley’s VaVaVoom Suit
Lesley choose this red and black one piece suit. She actually swims more than we do and even takes a water aerobics class (at least she will when it starts back up).
Because she is moving and grooving in the water, she likes suits that don’t have a skirt or extra material since they can get in the way and end up plastered against your body when you get out of the pool.
It’s because of her comments about the suit that made me even think to ask the company for a discount and write this post. Why? Lesley kept telling me how much she was impressed with the suit especially for the price. In fact, she made the sarong below to go with it. That’s how much she will be wearing it.
On a side note, she wanted to comment that the suit was color fast. She washes out her suit after being in the pool in her sink, and the color didn’t bleed. I would never have thought about this except she remarked that an inexpensive suit she had purchased at Bealls Outlet did bleed when she washed it.
Swim Suit Cover Ups
I thought it was so interesting how all three of us had different kinds of swim suit cover ups. It goes to show that you don’t always have to go buy one. Lesley made this sarong to match her suit, yet you can always use a large scarf. Charlotte wore a robe, and I had on a kimono.
Charlotte’s Cute Suit Pool Style
My mom chose this floral print layered hem suit. The only complaint about this one is how purple it looks on Rotita’s site, where as it’s more blue in real life.
Insider tip: Color is the one aspect of online shopping that can be SO hard to take into account. To be more successful with your online purchases, make sure you like all the other aspects of the piece and be open to the color.
My mom made the comment that this was her FIRST fun swim suit EVER. EVER?? Isn’t that a little sad? She said she’s always had basic swim wear to be functional. When we took our first swim photos 3 years ago, she noticed how Nancy and I had colorful suits while hers was black.
I think it’s high time each and every one of us has some pool style that makes us happy. Whether that is ruffles, color or polka dots, it’s definitely time!!
Yes We Vibe Water
I also want to give a shout out to these Yes We Vibe Aqua Barefoot Shoes!! Both Rob and I ordered them since we are water walking quite a bit. And they are fabulous. Granted if you aren’t in the pool much, you don’t need these. But they have been wonderful for us.
Even if you don’t need aqua shoes, this company has such FUN prints for any of their pieces. Rob now has 2 different kinds of sneakers, I have one pair and Lesley has 5. They are that good. They are one of the companies I talked about recently with comfortable everyday footwear.
I have 2 codes you can use for the company. JODIE10 (-10%OFF) and JODIEBOGO (buy one get one free on all FOOTWEAR). Since these aqua shoes are $30, we used the BOGO which made them a great deal.
Again, this is NOT a sponsored post beyond the fact that we were gifted these swim suits (and only the swim suits). I would say the only drawback is that the pieces are made in China if that is important to you.
Let me give you some other details. Yes, the company reached out to me. And I almost deleted the email before looking at the site. Why? Because it seemed like one of those sites that women of our age wouldn’t benefit from.
In fact, we had ordered some swim suits from another similar site just before the virus hit. However, we never received those suits.
Therefore, I didn’t hold high hopes for these items. Yet I was impressed with the range of sizes and the modesty factor.
FYI, the sizing ran true to size for all 3 of us. Again, the company is called Rotita, and the discount is Rotita2020 (20%OFF over $40).
I was also surprised that our suits came relatively fast. Granted, I sent our selections through my contact, so I can’t tell you how it would be from ordering from the site.
In fact, now I’m very interested to possibly check out other items from them, and definitely add to my pool style.
Thank you for visiting my space on the internet. I like to showcase how it’s never too late to look great for women of any age, size or working with any budget.
I feel I’m here to help move beyond the fashion rules of yesterday and evolve. Style and clothes are made to give you joy. Not cause us stress because we are worried about what other’s think.
My hope is that you get ideas and inspirations from Charlotte, Lesley and myself. It’s not about copying what we wear, but about using what you already have and updating items along the way.
Most of all it’s getting us to think differently and dare I say, have fun?
