Spring Graduation for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: A Casual Party

Quote of the day: “We all have ability.  The  difference is how we use it.” Stevie Wonder

With spring comes many parties for some of us—we just got our first invitation last weekend! Graduation parties are one of the fun occasions for which you could be invited this season. For this post I concentrated on a casual party , usually the backyard variety. Thus all three of us donned some jeans and tried to look chipper!! I came up with three different looks for a graduation ceremony in the last post (here).

50’s Outfit: Thanks to Gemma’s wishlist back in March–I got the idea to put together these jeans & shirt! Who knows why I picked these shoes…I wish I’d gone with a lighter color.

Jeans: Simply Vera-thrifted (similar here)~~Top: Ann Taylor-thrifted (similar here)~~Shoes: Mossimo (similar here)~~Belt: (similar here)~~Necklace: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Bracelet: (similar here)

60’s Outfit: If you’re not going to be sitting on the ground, then white jeans are one of my favorites for showing off a bright color like this green!

Pants: Chico’s (similar here)~~Cardigan: Charlotte (similar here or color here)~~Top: Chico’s (similar here)~~Shoes: Spring Step (similar here & here in a flat)~~Necklace: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Bracelet: (similar here)

Even if it’s a casual party, a lovely blouse can be the perfect addition to your jeans (all under $50):

  • Kathleen McDermott

All cute outfits. Nancy’s is particularly pretty. And Charlotte, of course, brings her creative brilliance to her outfit with the beautiful beading on the already lovely scarf. I would like to see a museum curate an exhibit of Charlotte’s creations and your knitted pieces. I’d fly to CO from NJ to see it.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Now that’s such a spectacular idea, Kathleen!! After the blog gets famous and people are clamoring to meet & see us–we could open a museum of all of our outfits/creations!! Now I know what I’m going to do with mom’s never ending closet when she kicks the bucket!! I just didn’t realize there would be demand for it until you said this!!
(I, in no way, mean this sarcastically—I’m really wondering if it’s something I could do, because the thought of dealing with all of our “junk” at some time is quite overwhelming!!!)

  • love the necklaces and the bracelet. so glad you added your post to the Powers The Flower linkup.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hey Rena—I was gone for the weekend, so had to be late to the party!! Thanks for the love!

  • Happinessatmidlife

    All great spring outfits!

Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you soon!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Alice!!

  • Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style.

  • Nice casual “springy” outfits! Well done!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I didn’t even realize I went with the more pastel colors—funny, huh?

  • You all picked beautiful and flattering outfits. I love the little pops of color too. Thanks for sharing this week and always coming to my party well-dressed! 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Michelle!!

  • Judy Gramith

You all embody the perverbial “breath of spring.”
SO PRETTY!! These outfits are perfect for an informal spring occasion. All of the jewelry is great.
Love that your mom is embellishing wit beads. Adding beads is a really fun way to up style MANY items of apparel. It can be a little tedious to do sometimes but we’ll worth the effort!
Does your dear mom realize that she’s doing a bit of “print mixing” with that scarf and pant combination? Very chic!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Great eye on your part!!! Shhhh…don’t tell mom that this is print mixing!! Ha ha…maybe I’ll start incorporating these little touches without her realizing it and pretty soon she’ll love it more!!!
      Thanks for such wonderful compliments!!

  • Lovely post!

    DadieB. ~

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Dadie!!!

  • Cathy Lawdanski

60’s is my favorite, but all are really cute! I have that Ann Taylor top!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Cathy!!! Do you have issues with this top? The neckline seems to sag on me…I was thinking of doing some surgery on it….

      • CathyLynchLawdanski

No – it fits fine – But I’m a little top heavy! I think it looks great on you in the pic, but I know how it feels to have a top that you don’t feel fits “just right”.

        • Jodie Filogomo

Especially when I feel like I’m constantly “adjusting” it…..probably nobody else even notices that it was scrunching down!!

  • Such pretty spring colours! I especially like the yellow and white.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Suzanne!! Are you a yellow lover too??? To me it’s such a bright & cheer color!!!

  • Laura

The soft colors and prints you chose are lovely! These are wonderful graduation outfits! And I am so impressed with your mother’s skills! How neat she added the beading herself! I wouldn’t have thought of doing that!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Laura!! I thought adding beads to the scarf was a great idea too!!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

I like all of these. I really like that pop of soft green in your outfit with the necklace. I don’t think the shoes are an issue as they are a summer type shoe, but I could also see this with a low sandal in black or nude or even white. Nancy looks so fresh and pretty with that yellow and white. Your mom is lovely in purple (my favorite color, by the way). Great picks! – Amy

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Amy. I’ll definitely have to try this outfit with my tan sandals!!!
Mom & Nancy liked these outfits too (sometimes they just wear things to appease me)!!

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

These are all perfect outfits for a graduation! That navy/white striped shirt looks great with the mint accessories!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Carrie!! Striped shirts are perfect, eh???

  • PetiteOver40

You all do look so chipper!! If I saw any one of you at a party, I’d think, “I want to hang out with that lady” because you look like fun! You have a knack for accessorizing, Jodie! I love your necklace, Nancy’s shoes, and your mom’s scarf!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Funny word, huh–chipper? Who knows how these things come into my head!
But I do love accessories—-I just can’t imagine leaving the house without them! (I blame it on mom—because you know the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree)!

  • Love your outfit and so pleased that you were inspired by the wishlist 😀 Have a lovely day x
    Gemma x

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Gemma—I just wished I had paid more attention to the shoes…for some reason I kept thinking the wishlist showed leopard shoes with it. Not that I had to copy it exactly—but I feel like my shoes ended up being too dark (and how is it I don’t notice these things in the mirror?)
      Happy Weekend!!

      • I think they look fine as they are a summery style shoe I think the whole thing works. I know what you mean though. I often look in the mirror and like an outfit a lot and then see a picture of it and the colours don’t look the same. I can imagine that in real life the shoes are a more rich burgundy colour. It’s nice. Gemma x

  • ADA

All of you look fabulous. I love all of your pants and light Spring colors, here.

    Welcome by and linkup. Thanks!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Ada—it’s funny because I didn’t even notice that we all were in light colors until I looked at the picture for the linkup—well–it is spring!!

  • Queen of Rods

All three outfits are nice, but I particularly like Nancy’s outfit…the color and style are very flattering on her 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much—I’ll tell her. We actually bought that cardigan when we were together in New York one summer….and then she had to buy the shirt to go with it!! It’s such an interesting lightweight sweater, I think!!
