Spring Weddings 2 (An Evening Event)

Spring Weddings for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: An Evening Event

Spring Weddings for the 50, 60 & 70 year old women.

Quote of the day: “Don’t wait until conditions are perfect to begin. Beginning makes conditions perfect.” Alan Cohen

Weddings are such a fun and joyful moment. Hopefully you don’t stress out too much over what to wear to the joyous event. We showed some layered options for a daytime or more casual wedding in the previous post (here). This post will focus on a dressier wedding. Notice I steered us all away from the usual black. Considering it’s spring, I wanted to incorporate at least a little color. Since springtime in the Rockies can also mean the possibility of snow, it’s always a good idea to have some sort of cardigan, jacket or shawl with you to help keep the goosebumps at bay. (At least spring weddings are usually held inside–ha ha)

50’s Outfit: Did I mention that I liked the color yellow? I tried to counteract the brightness with some darker brown accessories.

60’s Outfit: We were all taught not to mix our metals (gold & silver), but that rule is now extinct. I had Nancy wear her gold bracelet and carry a silver purse.

These clutches will come in handy for your all the weddings you need to attend (and such deals, too!!) : Don’t forget to see others on my Facebook page!

  • Oooooh that blue dress is gorgeous! I think that is my favorite of the three… you look lovely in that yellow too though! Thanks for linking up at #FridayFrivolity – pinning and tweeting…

    • Jodie Filogomo

I think it’s so fun to get dressed up—and a wedding it a great reason to do it!!

  • I always enjoy seeing different takes on what to wear to weddings, so I really enjoyed seeing these different styles for an evening affair. Your yellow tiered dress is so pretty, as is your mom’s blue. I like Nancy’s pretty skirt and the fact she is wearing separates.

Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday! Hope to see you back next week.

Jennie – A Pocketful of Polka Dots

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Jennie! Weddings are the best place for people watching, don’t you think? Especially since everyone’s (usually) dressed up in their finery!

  • Happinessatmidlife

All great looks for a spring wedding! It will be a long time before I will be attending another wedding, all my friends have been married for a long time.

Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you soon!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s funny how they come in groups—first the friends, then the co-workers,…now it’s friend’s kids!!!! But they are fun celebrations!!

  • I think that your intent to steer clear of the color black is fabulous. While black can be very elegant, it is color that will stand out as memorable and unique. Thank you for sharing with Powers the Flower.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know most women agree with you that black is more dressy—but I’ve decided I’m bucking the system and rebelling against black (at least for right now!!) Thanks for your lovely comments!!

  • All of you look super, and so wedding-appropriate! I love the sparkly bag choices as well. xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks! It’s a great excuse to pull out those fun clutches since I tend to grab the big bags for everyday!!

  • Monika Faulkner

I LOVE going to weddings, dearest Jodie…they’re the perfect excuse to go “all out” with some sartorial creativity (and of course I’m always anxious to oogle the bride’s dress, too!!) You three ladies look super chic and stylish in your wedding ensembles; I totally agree that yellow is ideal for a spring celebration…and that mixing metals has gone from being a no-no to a definite “yes!!” P.S. Doesn’t your mom look positively ravishing in blue?! XOXO

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Monika!! Getting dressed up is one of the fun parts of going to a wedding—along with eating the cake (I love dessert!!)! Hey—I keep forgetting to ask you, how’s your tooth implant? Mom just got hers uncovered and finally gets her crown in a couple months!!

      • Monika Faulkner

Wedding cake is one thing I can’t enjoy, unfortunately; my naturopath has me on an anti-inflammatory diet because of all my dental issues…and wheat (flour) is off limits!! But yes – speaking of teeth, I find out this Thursday whether I get the green light for MY crown…it’s so sweet of you to remember, Jodie!! Good luck to your mom!! 🙂

  • Loved this post, such wonderful inspiration for wedding outfits. Have a lovely weekend. Gemma x

Thanks Andrea!! I sincerely appreciate the wonderful comment!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

    A wonderful trio , can’t even pick a favorite!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Tracey!!

  • You guys are so great for getting photos outside when there is still snow on the ground! I’m a serious wimp compared to you all.

These are all great looks and love that you wear yellow. Not many people do and it is such a wonderful bright happy colour.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Yes…but Denver is so different than Canada—there can be snow on the ground, but it’s 40-60 degrees outside—and since we’re a mile high in elevation—when the sun is out (which is 300 days out of the year), it feels wonderful! Trust me, when it’s 20 degrees outside, we’re taking the photos in the house—we’ve just been relatively lucky this year that our photo shoot days have been okay!
(and sometimes you don’t see all the layers under what we’re wearing!!)

  • Great ideas! I just love the accessories! Thanks for sharing your tips!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for such a nice comment Shari!!

  • doreenmcgettigan

I love yellow too! I’m not sure of the belt with the yellow dress but I like the sweater and the dress. I’m on the fence with the other two outfits.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I love to hear other’s opinions—especially if they’re not in agreement, so thanks for being honest!!

  • love all three outfits, but that blue is especially striking – I love weddings for the opportunity to dress up (there’s not enough fancy occasions these days!)

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know…we used to get dressed up to go to church and dinner…but even that is quite casual nowadays! But I’m a rebel and tend to dress up more even though others don’t! Thanks for commenting Leanne!

  • Laura

You all look so stylish, but with enough layers to keep you warm in case it gets chilly! Great inspiration!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Laura—I hate being cold, so I’ve learned (finally after 50 years) that I might as well dress appropriately for the weather!

  • Blue Adriatic

All of you look so stylish and decent just perfect for wedding occasion!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much for the kind comment!!

  • Rosemond

Great looks! And I’m with you on trying to get some color besides black, especially for a spring wedding!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Might as well look happy for the couple, right? Thanks for taking the time to comment Rosemond!!

  • You all look so beautiful.
Yellow is definitely your friend, Jodie!
Nancy looks striking in silver and blood red.
And your mum is beautiful in her blue.
A trio of head-turners, at any event!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Samantha—I specifically kept away from black after we had that discussion awhile back!!

  • Jodie Filogomo

One dress, 2 pairs of shoes, 6 tops, 4 sweaters, 1 scarf, 1 necklace, 1 pair of jeans, 1 skirt, 1 jacket (does gold count—if so, 2). Let’s be clear that I went to CU for both undergrad & dental school with the colors of black & gold—-so that plays into it somewhat!! Besides it’s a happy color. And truth be told, the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree (my mother has a yellow kitchen)!! And you?

    • Girl… I don’t have anything yellow in my closet (at the moment) Hahaha. Sounds like we BOTH need an intervention. Me for black and you for yellow! 😉

      • Jodie Filogomo

We could swap!! I can’t tell you how much I love my yellow skirt—it goes with everything (especially black)!!
And really I just need a shopping intervention—it’s almost bad that my new closet is actually bigger than the old one!

  • All 3 of you are so adorable…love the yellow outfit especially…just lovely !

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Valerie—I appreciate you taking the time to comment!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

Love! Love! Love! Every outfit is perfect. You are so trending Pantone’s buttercup and I love how you belted the sweater around the dress. It tones down the bright yellow, and pulls in the accessories. Nancy’s look is so polished. I like the peep toes and her skirt. And mom’s dress is elegant. She could have paired it with a cobalt blue shawl as well for a more monochrome look. You all would look perfect at a wedding.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Mom probably did want to wear a blue shawl—I’ve been trying (very unsuccessfully, I might add) to get her out of the habit of ALWAYS matching her clothes. (You might not realize this by her outfits on the blog because I tell her, “it’s my blog, I want you to wear this!!” Ha ha!!) Thanks for the lovely comment Amy!!

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

All of these look great for a Spring wedding! I am sad I don’t have any to attend this Spring! I love the look with the belted cardi over the yellow dress!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Carrie—maybe you just need a fun date night to get dressed up for—ha ha!!

  • I love getting dressed up for weddings! You all look perfect for a spring one.

Thanks Amy—I agree—I think it’s fun to get dressed up!!
