Wearing Pants for Spring Weddings

Wearing Pants for Spring Weddings

Spring Weddings for the 50, 60 & 70 year old women.

Quote of the day: “Nothing endures but change.” Heraclitus

For the third post in our spring wedding series, I broached the possibility of wearing pants to this type of affair. I admit, this wouldn’t be my first choice, but I realize there are many women who don’t wear skirts and dresses. And many women have those silkier trousers which actually can work for such ceremonies. (My mother thought I was crazy for styling this option–help me out— has anyone ever worn pants to a wedding?). You can check out my interpretations of a daytime spring wedding (here) and evening spring wedding (here). Again I stayed away from the black colored choices—I’m trying to keep it springy!

For your spring weddings, it’s always nice to have a fun clutch to put your essentials in. Check out these options:

  • I have a few spring weddings coming up & didn’t think about wearing pants! Maybe I will reconsider my dress for a jumpsuit!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Oooh…a jumpsuit would be perfect for the occasion! I’ve never been a big fan, but I promised Samantha of Fake Fabulous I’d do a blog series on jumpsuits, so we’ve been scouring the earth trying to find us all some!! I’m beginning to see the appeal!!

  • At 60 I wear pants to every occasion. They are easily dressed up or down by the fabric choice and accessories as you have pointed out. Pinned and shared! Thanks for partying at #overthemoon! Have a lovely Easter

    • Jodie Filogomo

Glad to hear the other point of view Marilyn–it seemed like everyone else who commented has never done that!!

  • I think you all look fabulous. I have worn pants to a wedding and I shared my look in a post blog (Daytime Wedding in Fall). The pants were black but a cropped version so my ankles were bare and I paired it with a lace top, floral cardi, and a layering of pearls. In my opinion, pants are a definite option when you want a unique but comfortable look.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m so glad to hear someone who has done this Rena!! I checked out your post, and of course you looked fantastic. I think dressing nice for a wedding doesn’t have to have the rules that are somehow stuck in our heads!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Love them all – and your culottes are fab! Happy Spring! xox

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Patti—and happy spring to you too!!

  • I haven’t ever worn pants to a wedding, but do see this on occasion on other people. All three of you did a great job styling these looks!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Tara—well that’s definitely been the consensus among the comments—although I’m a little surprised. With as casual as life has gotten, I was sure there’d be more pants wearers out there!!

  • I don’t think I have worn pants as of yet to a wedding but I have been to many weddings where ladies have. But I Did wear silk ecru pants with a brown silk duster to Last night to KC’s fashion week.

    • Jodie Filogomo

How fun to go to fashion week—I’m jealous!! But I bet your outfit would have been appropriate at many a weddings?

    • I think so. The Red Carpet pictures were just posted. When I put ours on IG, I will tag you and you see what you think.

      • Jodie Filogomo

        Thanks Terri—I’d absolutely love that!!

  • Art ThisIsArt

I never wear pants to a wedding but by seeing these outfits u think I might as well give it a try once 😉

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Ilona!! I figure we might as well explore all possibilities because one never knows!!

  • While all three of you do look lovely and elegant for special occasions, I have never worn pants to a wedding or dance. It is a personal decision; I do see women in pants at such events, but still looking classy, as you pretty ladies do. I wouldn’t even wear pants at a beach wedding, I’d choose a sundress. 🙂 I was invited to a backyard wedding at a farm with a barn dance in the evening (which I led the hoedown!) Yes, I wore a dress. As for the culottes, very chic and a nice in-between choice.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Carmen! I’m pretty sure I’ve never worn pants to a wedding either, but I always love to debate on topics. Thus I have to ask: what were most guests wearing at the backyard wedding at the farm? Because there’s an occasion that if the invitation said casual—I could imagining wearing pants (although I’d probably go for a denim skirt in all reality)!!

  • I very rarely wear pants except on the weekends to run errands so I wouldn’t wear pants to a wedding, however, if I were to chose, it would be outfit for the 70s

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m with you Antoinette—I like dressing up too much to really consider this options. But, like I always say….it’d be boring if we all were the same!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

More winning combinations! I think the whole pants debate depends on the venue and the person getting married. Sometimes a fancy venue requires a fancy get up, but an outdoor wedding with the reception in the barn, I think even jeans are acceptable. Every outfit you showed would easily work for a wedding. You all look lovely!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Amy! I like dressing up anyways, so this would not be my norm—but it’s nice to try to explore all the options! Our friend’s daughter had her wedding outside in the mountains (with port a potties), so that one would definitely be appropriate for pants!!

  • PetiteOver40

All three of you look sparkly and sophisticated — perfect for a wedding! I’m in agreement with Samantha — you nailed those culottes! And your gray on gray is absolutely beautiful. It really elevates the look! I would totally wear pants to a wedding, especially if I looked like you three! I don’t think anyone would bat an eye if you walked into a wedding wearing any of these three outfits!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Sherry—I figure people wear pants to everything now a days!! And besides, what else was my third version going to be? I’m all about different options!! Thanks for the love!

  • Culottes!!!
    And you nailed them.
    Sigh…they still elude me.
    I salute you Jodie!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s got to be the cut & style of them Samantha because you certainly have the body (and gumption) for them!! You’ll find some, I have faith!!

      • I am off for another look tomorrow, Jodie. Wish me luck! XXX

        • Jodie Filogomo

I’m sure that even if you don’t find culottes, you’ll find some other treasures!! Have a blast!!

          • No culottes, Jodie…BUT…distressed jeans, more clogs and Aveda hair and body goodies. Plus a fantastic lunch, with champagne! A successful day. X

          • Jodie Filogomo

In my opinion….shopping, and food make any day successful!! Who really cares what you bring home (besides great memories!!)
Can’t wait to see the distressed jeans!!

  • Wow never thought of styling pants for a wedding before. You all look great! Gemma x

    • Jodie Filogomo

I guess a wedding is still one of those events that everyone dresses up for (except maybe on the beach)….It’s nice to hear even the younger ones like you still think of it as formal!! Thanks so much for commenting Gemma!!!

  • Love those WHBM culottes of yours! I have to admit though, your mom’s look is my fave! #diva 😉

    • Jodie Filogomo

Didn’t her look turn out fantastic? Ahhhh, but should she wear it to a wedding?

      • Yes, she should! X

        • PetiteOver40

I agree with Samantha! She should wear that outfit to a wedding! She looks incredibly sophisticated and elegant! Skirts/dresses don’t own the rights to those two words. 🙂 Love these looks!!

          • Jodie Filogomo

I’ll tell mom, but she’d still probably never wear it to a wedding….but she could wear it to the symphony!!
