Styling a Pastel Color Outfit with Mixed Prints and 8 Decades

Quote of the day: ” When I accept myself, I am freed from the burden of needing you to accept me.” Steve Maraboli

It’s time again when a group of us showcase the same theme among 8 different decades of women. This time we are showcasing a pastel color outfit with some pattern mixing thrown in.

So why the above quote? I think the words are very powerful when we really read them. Since mixing patterns in our outfits is not something everyone is comfortable doing, I wanted us to let go of worrying about the idea of acceptance.

This quote also brings up the idea of embracing our bodies as they are. With age comes certain changes. Yet it’s always amazing how even the younger generations don’t accept themselves. Let’s work on changing that!!

Jodie’s Pastel Color Outfit

I’m not sure why I love print mixing so much. Maybe it’s more of a challenge or maybe it’s just new to me.

But seriously, I try to put together at least one outfit a week with some kind of pattern mix. And I was super happy with this combination that I would never have tried without this prompt.

I think gingham is an easy print for print mixing almost as easy as stripes. Last spring I wanted some pink gingham. So Kellyann and I bought the same shirt and wore it differently.

Adding one print right on top of another is not my usual. But I loved this combination. In fact, I had two options that I put together from playing in my closet with this prompt.

And while I was worried that the bling on my jeans would be too much with everything else, now I don’t think it is. Sometimes looking in the mirror, and looking at photos really gives you different perspectives.

Nancy’s Pastel Color Outfit

I had Nancy style a more subdued print mixing outfit. Her prints are in her footwear and purse instead of her clothing.

Two years ago, we styled outfits about mixing patterns with more of baby steps. And using shoes and accessories is an easy way to start if you’re not sure about it.

I love this tunic that Nancy bought recently. It’s perfect for those of you who love solid colors more, yet there’s some fun detail with the fringe at the neckline.

As for this purse, Nancy has just started embracing switching out her purses and adding to her collection. This one is from Target, and she was saying how Target has the cutest purses. I’ll add in that they also have the best earrings too. I’ll include some below to prove it.

Charlotte’s Pastel Color Outfit

First I just want to point out that my mom is actually wearing 3 prints. It’s hard to see the polka dot top under the jacket and scarf, but it’s there.

And considering I had to twist her arm to put together two prints when we first started this idea, I will give her kudos now. In fact, she even said she is starting to enjoy print mixing if it isn’t too radical! See, you can teach an old dog new tricks!

How to style a pastel color outfit with 3 prints

Now if you read the brands of all of my mom’s pieces, then you’ll realize she made almost everything!! Even she was surprised because they were made in different decades.

This top has a matching skirt in the opposite colorway, which you can see from 4 years ago.

And this skirt material was given to her by a neighbor. It was purchased to make a tablecloth, but my mom decided a skirt would be fun.

These sandals are the ones we were all gifted by Jambu. Luckily my discount code is still good until the end of April, so if you’re interested, don’t delay. It’s JTOUCH19 and valid for 20% off any purchase.

Location

We were strolling along the streets of old town Arvada, and I popped in to their bakery called, Rheinlander. They have been voted best bakery since 2012 and specialize in gluten free items.

Needless to say, these cookies aren’t gluten-free. But they were SO cute and matched our outfits. And yes, we did eat them afterward!!
