Outdoor Summer Event Outfit for Sitting
Quote of the day: “Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.” Roy Goodman
Finding the perfect summer event outfit shouldn’t be too hard. By now, we’ve had a lot of experience in attending these sitting events. For example, many of us go to outdoor concerts or fireworks display!! Even going to the baseball games could be included in this (although I’d be wearing my Rockies t-shirt!!)
I thought this category would pair nicely with the last post about what you could wear when your day includes a ton of walking! Either way, you want your summer event outfit to be comfortable, yet stylish, right? And for this category, the shoes may not be the object of primary importance, but what you wear on the bottom half of your body could be!
Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: For my summer event outfit, I chose my maxi dress!
This dress is one of those fabulous deals that I picked up from Charming Charlies when they were having their $10 sale! I think that any woman could wear a fun maxi like this for the summer! If you like there are always print versions or solid colored versions available.
Now I’ve heard that many of you don’t like the open shoulder shirts or dresses, but I have to tell you when I see them on others, I find them so flattering! Maybe I have a love affair with shoulders?

Of course, I brought along a cardigan for the look!
I’m always carting around some kind of cover up or jacket in case it gets cold. This particular cardigan is probably over 7 years old and is perfect for the summertime. I wear it often to cover up my shoulders from the sun too! These crochet cardigans are what I’d consider a necessity for my summer outfits. I could even make the case for getting a couple in different colors like this short one or even a longer one!
I even grabbed my crochet earrings that I’ve had for ages. I don’t wear these earrings that often, because they used to get lost in my curly hair. Being able to see my earrings easier is definitely an advantage to shorter hair!!

For my footwear, I figured I’d keep with the flats since most of the concerts we would attend would be on the grass.
I bought these gladiator sandals last year and have been pleasantly surprised at how much I wear them. I wouldn’t usually consider olive green a summer color that much, but they’ve been a great neutral for many outfits. Even if you think the gladiator sandals are something you’ll pass on, this pair of sandals just brings the kid out in you, don’t you think?

And I carried the same cross body bag that I had worn in the previous post.
I don’t have a ton of these kinds of purses, yet this one matched both of my outfits so perfectly!! If we continue having so much fun at the summer outings, I might need to invest in a lighter colored bag!

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: For Nancy’s summer event outfit that involved a lot of sitting, she grabbed her capri pants!
Nancy had embraced the capris for years, and so has several pair. This brown print pair have a tie closure at the end that she just loves!!
I also submitted an article to Sixty + Me about these Capri Pants! I explore the different aspects of how you can find a pair that works for your body!! If the article isn’t published yet, you can always sign up for their newsletter.

Nancy grabbed her chartreuse sandals that she picked up last year for her footwear!
These sandals have the cutest tassel on the end of the ties. We usually tie them to the back because you don’t see them as much when they are in front!!
And just in case you don’t have a pair of sandals with tassels on them, there are plenty of opportunities to fix that snafu!! Heck, this pair and this pair are even under $20 right now. We all know that it’s a gamble to buy shoes online, but at least Nordstrom is good about returns!!

The top portion of Nancy’s outfit was dictated by the color of the shoes.
She wanted to tie in the same color somewhere else in her look, so Nancy chose this shirt. It may be a t-shirt, but at least it’s a t-shirt with some detailing. There’s the small ruffles on the hem of the sleeves, and the gold buttons in the front of it.
If you seem to have a ton of t-shirts in your closet, then I’ve touched upon the subject of how to incorporate them into your outfit many times. You can tell it’s a common theme since t-shirts are the most posted about in the categories under Tops-Knit Shirt/T-Shirt!

The last addition to Nancy’s outfit was her accessories.
She just purchased this choker necklace and I think it’s perfect for this look! Many of you might have worn choker necklaces in your younger years! But I see no reason you can’t wear them again. Even if you’re not sure about them, you certainly don’t have to spend a lot of money on the item. And you might find how much you like the look. You could start with a couple of different colored chokers or stick with a gold one!

Charlotte’s (70+) Outfit: My mom chose to wear knit pants for ease of sitting for her summer event outfit!
She’s had these pants for over 10 years back when the knits were so in style. Right now, most of us would think to call them leggings, but hers do not have the spandex in them. But either kind would work fabulous for the summer where you are sitting on a lawn chair or blanket!
If you think that leggings would be too hot for the summer months, you could be right. However, there are the capri length versions or even cut out versions too!

When the three of us were at the Botanic Gardens, we saw a woman carrying a parasol.
We thought that was such a smart idea to keep the sun off your body! And it might not surprise you that my mother has one of these parasols from her trip to Hong Kong.
What a fabulous idea for women who want to keep shaded but don’t want to mess up their hair with a hat!! Here’s one that looked like it stepped off the pages of Mary Poppins or here’s a more exotic one!

My mom did include her hat in the outfit too!!
This hat isn’t as much for shade as it is for style! Although wearing something in order to look stylish is never a bad thing, right? If your goal for your head covering is to also create some shade, then this one would be perfect! Or if you want a little more color in your hat wear, then look no further than this one!
I can’t forget to point out my mom’s earrings! Maybe I’ve been focusing on fun earrings too much lately, but they really are such an inexpensive way to add in whimsey to your outfit. I found this pair that are the epitome of summer, don’t you think? Or would you wear this pair?

The rest of mom’s outfit came together because she usually pairs this tunic with these pants.
I know many of us wear tunics with our leggings. But have you though about how many tunics could be interchanged with a swimsuit cover up or vice versa? What a great concept for your vacation!! This tunic would work wonderfully for an evening out since it’s sheer, and then why not use it over your bathing suit? If you’d rather have a sleeveless version for your summer tunic, then this one might be perfect.
