The Fierce Fifty Campaign–Meet Cheryl

The Fierce 50 --#thefierce50.

The Fierce 50 Campaign

How do we change the world? Well, the hope is that it starts here and now on the 50th day of the year!!

There’s a new campaign to show that 50 is a time of new beginnings and creations! The hope is that we will celebrate the lives of successful women over 50 across the globe. “Far from beginning to fade, most of us are just hitting our stride and putting five decades of life, smarts, confidence, love and sassy to work.” quotes Lee Woodruff.

Our whole intention with this campaign is to shift the current perception of midlife and beyond. Although our reality has changed, people’s perceptions of 50 and beyond has not. As we come together and celebrate one another, we will be bringing a spotlight to our demographic.

Each of us “over 50 bloggers” have been partnered with another blogger. The hope is that you’ll get to know and start following that blogger too.

You may ask how this affects you, my readers? Or what do you get out of it? At least in the case of us fashion bloggers, I know many women would like to see a change in companies and brands to start showing older models and “real” bodies in the retail sector. I think this is realistic goal, and smart for the retailer because it’s much easier to imagine an item of clothing  on yourself when you can see it on someone like you!

Have you ever had the thought that your opinion isn’t valued now that you are older? Or how about when you go shopping, do you find it increasingly difficult to find clothing for your age group that isn’t frumpy yet not teenagerish? These are aspects that might seem impossible to change, but how do we know if we don’t try?!

What You Can Do!

In order to make a change and have an impact, we need to be visible! And to show we mean business, there needs to be large numbers of us!! That means we need all of you out there, to help! Go grab your neighbors and friends (even if they are young) and help make this campaign successful by following us older bloggers! Any little effort can help….trust me. If you are on Facebook or Instagram, you can find other bloggers in this campaign by looking for #thefierce50. The more you are able to follow and support, the more we can make a difference for us all!! Even if you follow a blogger on one social media site, it can be fun to also follow on other sites. I know for myself, I will show different photos & events on the different sites!

With all of that being said, let me introduce my partner in this campaign, Cheryl:

Welcome another down to earth, fun loving, over 50, fierce woman!!!

The Fierce 50 --#thefierce50.

Cheryl is 56 years old and loves art in every form, especially fashion. Realizing the media is made up of many more young women than women our age, made her want to try to balance the representation through her blog. It is her hope to make an impact on how women are seen in society as they age. It all starts, one blog and at time.

The Fierce 50 --#thefierce50.

Cheryl’s  home is in the west central mountains of Idaho. She has a doctoral degree in Education and is the Vice President of Learning Innovations for an Educational Consulting Firm.

The Fierce 50 --#thefierce50.

She loves animals and has two canine best friends named McCall and Stella. You will see them photo bombing many of her pictures. Cheryl has always loved fashion, home decorating, cooking, anything to do with the great outdoors and wine. She started running in her mid forties and now runs several 5Ks a year supporting causes of all kinds. Cheryl has two sons, two daughters-in-law, a grandson and a granddaughter.

I’d love to hear that you are behind us in this idea!! Just a yes in the comments will let the brands out there realize that there are many of you in the background too!!

  • Charlotte Miller

    Yes-of course

  • Mackenzie Glanville

    what a fabulous idea!

  • Great campaign. And how ridiculously stylish is Cheryl? She looks great!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Right??? You can join in the movement (on FB—look for Fierce 50 Movement) if you’re interested. It’s not just for fashion bloggers…it’s for all women! Hopefully the more numbers we have, the more we can make a difference!!

  • This is grrrrrrrrrrreat! Have I EVER felt invisible post 50? When have i NOT?

It started even earlier in the acting biz when 20-somethings were hired to play the over-the-hill 40-somethings that were getting dumped for 20-somethings played by teens. Surely ALL producers and ad execs can’t be horny old men or living out fantasies from when they were too gawky to get the girl — ‘sup with this?

It always makes me crazy when women’s magazines will have an article like “50 is the new 40!!” while the full page ad on the other side or the very next page features a fresh-faced kid who, except for her size-0 outfit, looks like a college freshman. HUH? Even when the editor in chief is a WOMAN.

AND – ahem – not *all* over-50 women are fashion bloggers – and we have a lot to offer too!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I hear you squawking big time!!
And really…the movement is not all about fashion bloggers or even bloggers in general. I think the majority of these first Fierce 50 were fashion bloggers only because the women with the vision is one??
But you should join in on the FB group. Not that you have to do anything, but it shows that there are numbers!! We’re planning another campaign this fall and then a conference next year!!

  • Go ladies go!!!!!!!!

Your green sweater is lovely. Can you see it together so it just slips on? That would solve the brooch problem -but I do love it.

    • Jodie Filogomo

What an absolutely brilliant idea, Donna-Marie!! Right now I’m hitting my head, thinking why didn’t I think of that? This is why I need to post these things—so others can give me such fabulous insights!!
