The white on white clothing trend was seen a lot on the runways for Spring 2022. It’s one of the spring trends that I touched on earlier this season and should be easy for anyone to recreate.
Quote of the day: “If you decide that you’re going to do only the things you know are going to work, you’re going to leave a lot of opportunity on the table.” Jeff Bezos
Many times the spring trends are all about buying a new item or print, yet this is one that most women said they could try. With that in mind, the goal was to find different ways to make the white on white clothing trend stand out.
And Lesley started the challenge by incorporating statement jewelry into the mix as inspired by the runway photo below.
Insider tip: When using a photo as an inspiration outfit, remember, you don’t have to “copy” it. The idea is for it to spark an idea of how to make it your own and have fun with the style.

Lesley’s White on White Clothing Look
We laughed that we were wearing the white on white clothing trend when touring the dairy farm. Did that make us milkmaids??
But if the idea of all white clothing seems boring, then why not add in statement jewelry?
Lesley could have easily copied the inspiration photo by layering a bunch of silver necklaces, but instead, she chose a black statement necklace and then added some pops of black in other parts of her outfit.
What this does is has your eyes check out all of the black items in the look because they stand out. It’s a great way to take the focus off any parts of your body you aren’t so happy with instead.
Statement Jewelry
Jewelry goes through trends just as much as clothing does, and while there are many delicate necklaces being shown right now, it’s just as fun to switch it up and wear what you like.
In Lesley’s words: “As queen of layering necklace, you would expect me to lay it on thick with color on the white canvas. Fooled you!! I chose a simple loud statement necklace instead. Every time I wear this piece I get compliments from men and well as ladies. If that doesn’t say statement, I don’t know what would.”
A bold piece of jewelry like this is such a wonderful way to add an exclamation point to a solid top. The best part about it is how it contrasts beautifully against her white on white clothing.
Finish Off the Look
You might have a hard time adding in only one piece that is a totally different color than the rest of the outfit. If that’s the case, then do what Lesley did and use that same color in a couple of other items.
Lesley wore black shoes, a bracelet, and earrings plus carried a black and white purse. Notice too, the black band on the hat which ties it all together so well.
Insider tip: If your hat has a band that doesn’t go with the outfit, you can either remove it (which can require some snipping of threads) or style a scarf around it to cover it (as Lesley did here).
The cherry on top is the bright red lipstick too. While the inspiration model photo has a neutral makeup palette, I love how Lesley’s red lippy adds some wonderful color to the white on white clothing trend look.
Insider tip: Don’t underestimate how lipstick can brighten your face and make you look more alive.
And if you hate how it seems to run into those lines around your mouth as you’ve gotten older, I have the answer for you in this article.
More Belt Magic
Many women don’t give belts the time of day, and yet they can be magical for outfits. Lesley will tell you that she calls her body shape a “zucchini”, yet she has shown many times that a belt can add a lot to the overall look.
And don’t be put off by articles that say short-waisted women can’t wear belts. They are wrong!!

It’s not rocket science. A belt can pull in fabric enough to show that you do have a shape. What Lesley did with her white on white clothing trend look is incorporate a white belt over the white tank. Even though it’s under the white cardigan, it creates a shadow under the cardigan which “creates” a waist. Tada. Magical!!
Insider tip: BEWARE. Too many times we think if we cover up, then we are hiding our bigger parts. Yet too loose can make you look bigger. (Not that big is bad, but it’s nice to show your shape at times).
Black Sandals For Summer
Black is one of those neutrals that seem perfect all year long. And having a darker pair of footwear doesn’t have to be relegated to dark outfits. They can be a fun contrast to the lighter pieces that we tend to see in the warmer months.
One of the secrets to making black footwear seem summery is to find ones that are more strappy, so you see your foot too.
Lesley’s pair has three different straps that all are thin to create a sexy look. The block heel is advantageous for balance and walking.
The White on White Clothing Trend
This white on white clothing trend is one of those that is truly ageless and should be easy to find in our closets.
Yet many of us worry about getting our white pieces dirty which is understandable. Stains are not as easy to hide on the white things. But don’t let that be a deterrent. I have ideas (don’t I always?)
1-Try the no-stain white pieces that are being made by certain companies. While I LOVE the idea of this (and have a couple of no-stain white jeans from Chicos), how I understand it is it’s a chemical coating on the clothing and only made to last for a certain amount of washings.
2-Learn some wonderful techniques to remove stains. Which is exactly why I bought the book Laundry Love.
3-Carry around stain erasers. I recently bought these from Amazon after my friend, Jennifer, used them when she was visiting me.
When NOT to wear the white on white clothing trend:
1-Around the youngsters and babies.
2-Make sure you aren’t going out for spaghetti.
Insider tip: If you do end up staining your white pieces, don’t think you have to throw them out. Maybe you should dye them (a technique shown in this article)?
Or figure out how to DIY the piece. Think about adding embroidery, a patch, or other material over the stain. If it’s a sleeve that’s been stained, how about removing it and making the item sleeveless. There are so many wonderful options if you use your imagination.
