Wearing Accessories is Fun with Prints

Quote of the day: “Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.” Dennis P. Kimbro

Growing up with a mother who loves her clothing and accessories, I have to admit that it’s never been an option for me about wearing accessories. Of course I would add earrings and a necklace at the minimum to every outfit that I wear! But I know many women aren’t in this habit, or don’t take the time to include these goodies!!

So with the suggestion from a reader, Clare, about wearing accessories, I decided to do a comparison showing with and without accessories with the same item of clothing. The experiment started with solid clothing. and now I thought I’d show us with print clothes. In fact, I tried to use 3 different concepts in this experiment. I tried accessorizing with a different color than the clothing, the same color of the clothes and neutral metals as the bling!

I’m not here to say that one way is right or wrong. In fact, if you are one of those women that don’t love accessories, then I think that  wearing prints can camouflage that you are not wearing accessories!! But make sure to check out the comparisons because even our 80+ blogette  joined us below!

Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: For my comparison of wearing accessories or not, I wanted to wear my dress that I recently got from VIPme!

You can see the dress below without any extras!! It’s a beautiful jacquard material, so I’m sure many of you would argue that it could stand by itself and still make a statement.

I know the first time I wore this dress, I kept the accessories and shoes neutral. But for this outing, I wanted to see how it would look by incorporating a totally different color into the mix.

This is where I think that using accessories can be almost magic. They can allow you to not just focus on the print, but also other items!!

The reason all of us are wearing some kind of covering is because we were going to dinner at Perry’s for Father’s Day! This beautiful mint wrap is from Shelbee’s Shoppe, one of the bloggers I am lucky enough to call one of my friends!

I do think that turquoise jewelry is so versatile in adding another color to your outfit. I know many times we always try to match our accessories, but by doing that, they don’t stand out as much!

For example, if I wore a burgundy necklace with this dress, you’d never see it against the pattern! But the turquoise one stands out so lovely, doesn’t it? And it doesn’t have to be a turquoise stone necklace to make an impact. Since tassels are quite popular right now, this one would be fun too! Or you could choose many smaller stones in your necklace or even have turquoise glass beads instead!

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: With Nancy’s outfit, I wanted to think about matching the accessories to the colors in her outfit.

Wearing Accessories Challenge

First we started out with a basic outfit that many of us recreate often. Black dressy pants and a print top!!

Since we were going out to celebrate, Nancy put on her cluster pearl necklace! I love wearing our pearls more than just for super fancy times lately.

I think there are some very modern versions of pearls that make them easier to wear for everyday. Like this necklace, this one or this one seem less classic so you could wear them more often!

Nancy’s top is one of those that I could imagine many women wouldn’t feel the need to accessorize with because of all of the print and detailing. I could see the same thing with this top or this top. If you don’t love taking the time to add in more bling, then print tops are probably the way to go!

Nancy’s topper is a longer cardigan she received from VIPme and has loved wearing it many times!!

Charlotte’s (70+) Outfit: My mom chose one of her newer dresses also! This one was gifted to her from VIPme this spring! Her choice of accessories were metal ones that I would consider neutral, since they’d go with any color or print.

I think it’s another example of how there are many details on the dress, and therefore maybe there isn’t the need for a lot of extras.

There are the buttons, the sheer sleeves, and then the print at the bottom portion of this dress.

But as an accessory maximalist, my mom feels naked without some kind of earrings, bracelet, necklace or the like!!

If you like the idea of having accessories that aren’t a certain color, than silver seems to work for everyone! The nice part is there are many different varieties like this floral one or you could choose a bigger, tassel one!

As for the purse, you’ll laugh at this one! My mom’s silver purse is actually one of those cosmetic bags. She added a long beaded necklace under the flap to make it have a strap!!

I do think that a silver purse can be quite versatile, especially for dressier occasions! For example, here is a fabulous deal on a small clutch, or if you wanted a fancier one, this is pretty! Of course, the silver bags don’t have to be for dress up only, as shown by this bag or this one!

I also love that Clara grabbed a neutral, metallic purse for her outfit!
