Wearing our Camo Outfits with Black
Styling camo outfits is not just for young women. And we are proving that with these looks.
Quote of the day: “If you are not willing to risk the usual you will have to settle for the ordinary.” Jim Rohn
Do you really think of wearing clothing as risky?? I’m sure we all do to an extent. It’s because our brains have been drilled with what’s right and what’s wrong to wear. Trust me when I say, I would never have worn half of what I do now, only 10 years ago. Like camo for instance. It was made for hunters and I remember seeing women wearing it in the past and thinking that’s not for me.
But I’d like to think I’ve become more open minded. Or as I like to say, I’ve evolved. In life in general and in my clothing options. And I really want to push us to occasionally style pieces and combinations outside what we are used to wearing. Why? Because you’re old enough to have done the tried and true method for long enough now. LOL!
So again, the three of us are wearing our camo pieces only this time with black. We styled these same pieces with color, and now I wanted to throw in the neutral that most women love so much. But I wanted a little twist to this theme. I wanted to have the black be somewhat feminine. Read on to see what I mean.
And join us in the video below for even more details about the camo outfits.

Why I Wore This Outfit
Since black isn’t a great color on me, I cheated by adding some yellow earrings. When I add in another extra color with my accessories, I really try to make it look intentional by using that same color in a couple of things. Therefore my yellow purse and yellow sunglasses are part of the outfit too.
The funny thing? The last time I wore this top on the blog, I added in yellow too. At least I’m consistent….
It’s the ruffles on the sleeves of this shirt that I thought tied in with the idea about creating a more feminine air to the outfit. I also love that it adds a mixture of prints to the camo outfits. Like I said, I’ve been pushing myself to try new things lately.
How You Could Change This Outfit
My mom is not a fan of the ankle strap shoes. As much as I think they are brilliant for keeping your foot in place and allowing you to walk easier, she has other ideas. You know, that idea that the ankle strap breaks up the line of the leg. But it’s like I always say, I’m never going to fool you that I’m tall if we meet in person. That being said, you could buy a nude pair of ankle strap sandals that would make that leg line longer.
Why did I buy this pair?? They were $10 of course. I’m such a sucker for a great deal.
Interesting Tidbit
I was excited to receive this hat from Tenth Street hats to review. I feel like all of my summer hats are light colored, so I wanted to get a darker one. Yet, as I just stated, black isn’t my friend, so I thought navy was the perfect solution. And since combining navy and black is perfectly fine now, it worked well with this outfit.
Nancy’s (70+) Outfit

Why Nancy Wore This Outfit
You may not think of the black in Nancy’s outfit as feminine in detail. Hers may be a little more subtle, but I asked her to wear her slinky black top under the camo blouse. And then I love how she added the choker necklace that is not only lacy, but also has bling. To me, that creates a nice way to make these camo outfits feel more girly.
The grey sandals are a recent purchase, and I love how Nancy went with a totally different neutral by adding them. I’ve talked before how the ankle strap shoes make walking so much easier, and then this cork heel adds some nice shock absorbency.
How You Could Change This Outfit
The column of color that Nancy is sporting with her black capris and black top is a trick used by many women to create a vertical line. Then adding the camo blouse as a jacket is not much different than adding a kimono. So use the column of color and add many different kinds of toppers. Like a utility jacket or a sweater.
Interesting Tidbit
You can see that not all camo print is alike. Nancy’s camo blouse has more grey and subdued tones to it. I think that’s why her grey sandals work so fabulously with this outfit. Whereas if you compare Nancy’s blouse to my mom’s blouse they are different. My mom’s is more vibrant and the green seems brighter.
Heck, I’ve even seen pink camo and blue camo items. Talk about a fun way to play with the trend.

Why Charlotte Wore This Outfit
I requested that my mom wear her black pleated skirt for our camo outfits. I always think that the pleated skirts are such a feminine item with the flow and swish they provide. And then I love that she even added in a white lace top under her blouse for extra girlishness.
How You Could Change This Outfit
I also think the way my mom tied this blouse, it could be perfect over your little black dress too. It might be a fun way to make the classic dress have a more modern vibe. I always try to remember that button up blouses can be worn as a jacket for versatility.
Interesting Tidbit
This white tank top is reversible with two different shapes for the neckline. My mom is wearing the square option in these photos. And if you turn the tank top around, it has a v-neck. Shouldn’t all of our tops be like this??
Tips & Tricks
I truly don’t think that the camo trend is going away anytime soon. Of course that doesn’t mean you NEED to embrace it. But if you’re on the fence, I think black is the easiest color to pair with it. At least for your first outing. Then I’d love to see you try it with everything.
It seems like each and every woman I meet absolutely loves black. And maybe you know this, but it really doesn’t make you look slimmer. At least it doesn’t if your item is too big to start with. For example look at my top. Not only is it black but it also has vertical stripes. I should be looking like Twiggy with it on. But alas, the cut of the shirt actually is quite voluminous. Not that I mind. I’m hoping you’re checking out my legs or purse anyways!! Ha ha!
