Wearing your Capri Pants for a Casual Day

Capri Pants for 3 generations

Wearing your Capri Pants for a Casual Day

Quote of the day: “Whatever can be done another day can be done today.” Michel de Montaigne

Capri pants seem to have a terrible reputation in the fashion world. If you have ever read articles regarding this item, most will caution you about this and that so you don’t appear cut off at the legs or  look frumpy! And I get those points to a degree. But let’s also be realistic in the fact, that most of us older women are wearing shorts less often and still need to be cool in the hotter months!

I wrote an article for Sixty + Me about these beloved pieces. And I think I made some good points along the way. But you may not agree and it’s good to hear all of the different opinions!! Join in below in the comments, and tell me your thoughts and experiences!!

Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: Of course I’ve see in retail lately the term capri pants used for many other pants styles other than the “official” capri.

Like cropped pants could be the new term to try to give the capri pants new life?? I’ve even had a couple of readers comment on how the cropped flares look good because they even out their hips and hide thicker calves!! Another good reason to try on styles you may not normally wear!!

These pants that I’m wearing were gifted to me from Fabrizio Gianni 2 years ago when they sent us our jeans! I’d never worn them because I didn’t really love them, but now that I’m seeing more of the wider cropped pants, it made me want to reconsider them. I also shortened them about 3 inches!

Capris for Women 50+

I know part of the issue with the shorter pants can be that your proportions can be skewed to look cut off.

Therefore a pair of capri pants that matches your complexion along with the same colored shoes could fix that issue. At least that’s what I’m telling myself with these, LOL!

The other way to lengthen your legs would be to tuck in your shirt, or lower the neckline of the shirt.

Capri Pants for a Casual day

Speaking of shirts, I have a love/hate relationship with mine.

I love the color and the fact that it’s more fitted at the bottom. But when I wear it up on my shoulders, it tends to gape open easily. I will wear a camisole under it, but that makes it hotter. Therefore for this day, I also tried to pull it down as an off the shoulder shirt. It didn’t stay off the shoulders when I moved a ton, but I liked the look.

The off the shoulder shirts are quite popular right now. As much as the strapless bra is not my favorite, for some reason exposing the shoulders is so pretty! One idea I’ve seen is to wear the off the shoulder shirt with your bra showing. If the bra matches the shirt, then it looks like an open shoulder shirt! I could imagine it with this shirt or this one.

Purple & Yellow with my tan Capris

And the finishing touches on my outfit are the accessories.

I added in a different color with the yellow necklace and purse. I had an ulterior motive for wearing this heavier necklace. I was hoping it would hold the shirt from falling forward too much!

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: Nancy’s capris are a newer pair with embroidery on the pant legs and pockets.

Embroidery is definitely a stylish trend right now! If you’re going to get a new pair of capris, then why not try this detail?  I’ve seen it on the blue jeans and white jeans!

Sixty + Women wearing Capri pants

Wearing a shorter cardigan can also be a trick to getting the proportion right with your capris.

If you are someone who likes to cover up your arms with tank tops or sleeveless dresses, these are the best. There are always a variety of fun, short cardigans available. This particular one is not too fitted, and this one comes in many colors and sizes!

Capri pants for summer with embellishments

Even though there is red and green in the embroidery on the capri pants, I think you should be able to wear other colors with these pants.

These multi color shoes are one way to bring in other colors. My love of print shoes knows no bounds, so if you need a pair, let me show you the way! Leopard print shoes work for any season and any occasion! But floral shoes are the perfect way to bring in the summer and mules are huge right now!!

Fun Outfits for women over 60

Since the shoes have some blue coloring in them, I thought it’d look nice to incorporate that blue into Nancy’s accessories.

The blue glass in the bracelet always reminds me of tropical waters! This necklace is one that would look great too! Or these earrings have the coolest design with a necklace that’s similar!

Charlotte’s (70+) Outfit: My mom only has a couple of capri pants in her closet.

This olive green pair are the modern pants she wore for our post of how to make a floral shirt non-frumpy last year!

Women over 70 Wearing Capri Pants

When my mom and I talked about this outfit, she wanted to wear a green shirt so it would match.

But I talked her out of that thought and paired the capri pants with this striped top instead. If you don’t have a striped top in your collection yet, then this is the time to add one! I can’t believe how much I love them lately. I think part of the reason, is they add more pizzazz than the solid colored shirt. And if you want to try your hand at print mixing, they are the easy way to do it!

The nice thing is the striped shirts come in many colors and many designs for not too much money!

70+ Looking Stylish

To add in some brightness to mom’s outfit, she grabbed her color, bead necklace.

I had suggested a floral necklace, but my mom thought it was too fancy for this outfit! I do think that having a necklace with  many colors in it, makes it so versatile. For example, this one isn’t as big, but would still add in great color to many outfits! Or this one incorporates many different colors too!

Over 70 and Mixing Colors

You can see that my mom paired her beige sandals with her capri pants outfit.

Just like nude shoes for the other months, nude sandals are a definite must have for the summer too. Especially if you love wearing lots of colors in the summer, then they go with everything! If you like the ankle straps because they make walking easier, then this pair is very modern! But the mules are very popular now too, so these could be fun also!

And wasn’t my mom very modern by grabbing a light blue purse, instead of one that matches her outfit??

Thanks to one and all of you for your support. It means more than you know!

Capri pants seem like the perfect trouser for the summer months. Here’s a little variety to get you in the mood!

  • Nice looks. I like capri pants – they’re a great summer look.

  • sue

I love capris and wear them all the time in Spring and Summer. You can dress them up to be smart casual or perfect just for popping to the shops. Love the looks Jodie!

  • Love me some capris! Would you believe the style I like best today is Charlotte’s? I’m jumping the gun on age but it’s such a Carol look!

    • Glad you like this style Carol!! And it’s not to say that because my mom is wearing it that it’s only for 70+ year olds! Style is ageless!! And heck, I even wear some of mom’s clothing!!

  • Margaretha Montagu

I absolutely adore capris and I wear them a lot in spring and autumn, the summer here is too hot. What I love about this post, is that it shows the variety of styles available now. Also, I love the selection of shoes featured here, very inspiring!

    • Thanks Margaretha!! I do think the shape & silhouette of any clothing can make it better (or worse–ha ha)!!

      • Margaretha Montagu

That is very true. I think we do not take this into account when we buy clothes. And that goes for the view from the back too!

  • Love this color mix on you Jodie! Everyone looks lovely in caprils. I like a bit of heel height and you all have done so with the sandals.
    thanks for linking!
    jess xx

    • Thanks Jess!! I do love my heels and for some reason, they tend to look better with almost everything, right?? Aren’t you so glad you can finally wear them??

  • I love the yellow necklace with the purple top, and it’s a great idea to have a heavier necklace to prevent gaping…that’s a tip I’ll be remembering! I used to steer clear of any cropped trousers but now I really like them, I suppose it’s just a matter of finding the right proportions and fit.

    Emma xxx

    • I know what you mean about cropped trousers—at first I thought they were silly! But it’s funny after seeing them on other women for awhile, how we get used to the look, right?
But the fit and silhouette can be interesting—but no different than finding the right pair of jeans, I suppose!!
      Thanks Emma!

  • Capris have always been one of my favorite pant styles. I’ve been wearing them for years, even when they weren’t as popular as they are now ( perhaps channeling my inner Mary Tyler Moore :)). This is most definitely a style that has major versatility and can be dressed up or down depending on mood and occasion. Love your take on the casual side of this fabulous pant! You ladies look adorable, as always!

    • I’m so glad to hear you say this Mary!! I love how you equate them with Mary Tyler Moore!! 🙂

  • That’s probably why I haven’t had many of these pants before!! But when I was thinking about it, how are they any different than our skirts? They can cut off our legs in the same place???
So I decided I needed to try them out and see!!
Thanks for the lovely compliments, and I’m glad I finally found your comments in the spam folder—ugh! Hopefully now, Disqus will recognize you!!

  • Hi Rakhshanda!!
Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your comment—sorry it took so long to get back to you, but the comment went into spam, and I just now found it! Hopefully it’ll recognize you if you comment again, (which I would love)!
    Thanks, XOXO

  • Nicole Mölders

Great capri outfit suggestions. They are hard to style, but the three of you did a great job!

  • I used to think capris were terrible, then I started wearing cropped pants. I think, like you said, it totally depends on your proportions and where the crops end. You ladies styled these all beautifully. I didn’t feel that they were frumpy or unflattering at all!

    • See?? I’m the same way!! I really didn’t have many of these for the longest time. And I still don’t have many. But I think they can look good at times!! Although, I admit, I’m still partial to skirts!!

  • Mummabstylish Mummabstylish

Capri trousers are my go to choice for the warmer months. Your outfit is wonderful Jodie, I love these colours together ever since my mum had some material in these colours to make me a dress – alas the dress didn’t materialize, but my love for the colours did. x Jacqui

    • Thanks Jacqui!!
Have a great weekend, and I’m glad to hear you like capris also!! They are so functional!

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

I guess they are called cropped pants now, I always hesitate on what to call them… capri’s, cropped… ankle (if they’re a little longer). Sigh. I really, really love Nancy’s black embroidered pair! So, so cute and on trend! I also love the yellow/purple hues in your outfit! Those are two colors I have in my closet and I love to get them out every now and then!

    • It’s always funny to me how the names of certain items change, yet really they are the same things!! Anything for the companies to get us to buy more, right??
      Thanks Carrie!!
Nancy will be so happy to hear that other (younger) women love this pair too!!

  • Julie Loos

Your site is so much fun (and I’m younger than 50). I enjoy seeing the pictures and the styling!
Love all the outfits and you ladies are beautiful!
    Visiting from #TuesTalk

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks for stopping by Julie!!
I always hope that the styles or ideas can work for many ages!! I’m always surprised at how many little nuggets of tricks and tips my mom spouts forth!! I guess that’s the advantage of experience, LOL!!

  • I adore all your outfits. I’ll be honest, I picked “Ok” at first but then, as is always the case with your styling, a closer look revealed so many pretty details that I simply had to amend it to “Love”!!! Your top, with all its draping, is beautiful, Jodie, and the OTS look really works for your sassy hair. Nancy’s pants are too adorable, with those happy flowers. And Charlotte is really working that “rich society lady” look 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know that capris aren’t many people’s favorite items, so I was trying to give them a little more sass!! Of course, I’m all about the accessories anyways, so your comment made me smile!! 🙂
And I forwarded it to both mom & Nancy—that “rich society lady” part is so my mother!!

      • Hahahaha she “does” do the Hamptons and “ladies who brunch” looks oh so well.

  • Chrissy Rowden

This is my first visit to your blog! My look of concentration turned to smiles while taking in the the styles of each of you. I love your capris or cropped pants and choose this style for myself quite often (confession: varicose veins cause me to shy away from shorts! get over it, right?). Thank you for brightening my day.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Chrissy—-I’m so glad you stopped by my blog, and I truly hope it won’t be your last visit!!
The varicose vein issue is a hard thing to get used to, I think!! I have a couple cropping up, and I want to say they don’t bother me. It’s not like people are going to stop and point at them, right? But it’s human nature to want to hide them….

  • Such fab styling on all three! The Capri pants look great for summer! =)

    – Cielo
    Mermaid in Heels

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Cielo!! I appreciate that!!

  • You all look cool and summery in capris! I have so many capris and I love them all! They are my go-to for summer fashion.

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s so nice to hear that other stylish women like them too, Carmen!!

  • Absolutely cute caprris on all of you lovely ladies. Thank so much for sharing

  • I have capris. Not a lot but few. I wear em and love em.
Do enter the JORD Giveaway honey : http://www.vivaciouswish.com/2017/06/15/work-wednesday-with-jord/

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m glad to hear you say that Viashali!! I don’t have many capris either, but sometimes they work fabulously for the occasion!!

  • Again, this type trouser doesn’t suit my short legs! I am loving that yellow handbag though! Oh to have longer legs! xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

I totally feel the same way, Laurie!! I have short legs too!!!

  • Carol Cameleon

I love Nancy’s outfit, particularly the little flower design on the capris. And I love the colours in your Mum’s necklace. Not sure I’d get away with your top myself, gorgeous colour though! Thanks for linking up to #HighlightsofHappy again!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t that embroidery flower so neat on Nancy’s capris??
Can you believe I bought this top without trying it on? I should know better, so now I’m trying to make it work!! At least I love the color!!
      Thanks Carol!

  • I love cropped or capri pants! I think my legs look way to skinny in long trousers! Shorter trousers look more feminine I think. I was looking for a cardigan like Nancy is wearing in bright pink! Couldn’t find it! And I think that you styled your mothers outfit perfectly. I love olive green with blue!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Nancy!! It’s so nice to hear other women say they like these pieces!!
Nancy has a couple of these cardigans—they work so fabulously with dresses too!!

  • I love cropped pants, especially for spring/summer. I always cuff my jeans too so they show off my ankles. A bit of a DIY for this style

    • Jodie Filogomo

I think that’s a brilliant fix for jeans, Michelle!! It makes it so easy to create the right length!!

  • These all look so good on you. I am a huge fan of cropped pants because I’m 5’2 so I’m used to them all swallowing me!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      That’s my height too, Laura!!
And don’t you just love ankle pants because then they are the correct length without having to shorten them, LOL!!

  • Your outfit is divine! love the purple and yellow color combo! Also, I love cropped pants (mostly because they are normal length pants on me that I don’t have to hem lol!!).

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s so me too, Liz!! See, there are advantages to being short, right?

  • I like the idea of a cropped pant verses a capri because in my mind a cropped pant is just above the ankle where as a capri is higher on the calf, and I think a cropped pant tends to be more flattering and modern. You all seem to be wearing more of the cropped pant. I think you all look great! My mom wears a lot of slim cropped pants as she feels they are more age appropriate than shorts and jeans to some degree. She (like you all) always looks chic!

    Amy Ann
    Straight A Style

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s true—I’m sure the length of the pant leg makes a big difference on how they look!!
And, of course, your mom is always chic—because as we always say, the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree–ha ha!!
You should feature her on your blog, Amy!! Or I could feature her on mine?? I love including other women!!

      • I doubt she would be up for either, but I can always ask!

        • Jodie Filogomo

You should ask her—it’s just one photo and it’s fun!! XOXO

  • I don’t care what those articles say, I love wearing my capri pants! And I love all of yours – especially Nancy’s. The floral detail is so fun. Love your floral bag too! Hope you’re all having a wonderful week!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m so glad to hear you say that Lindsey—and you’re a youngin’! That makes it even more credible!!

  • Jill Clark

These outfits are really fun. I like them because they are so practical for everyday wear. I have been wearing capris for years and will continue. They are cool for summer and I think worn with a fun top and unique accessories look great as you have shown us here!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I have been so glad to hear that other women are wearing capris too!! I think they really are so functional if you’re someone who doesn’t wear shorts anymore!!
      Thanks Jill!!

  • Laura

I love the way you’ve worn your top as off the shoulder. It works really well that way! I’ve noticed that capris are coming back in style, but I will probably hold off until next year to see if they are still trending. Finding maternity capri pants seems too daunting for me! It’s hard enough to find good pants!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Well, and you still look great in shorts, so you don’t really need the inbetween length!
I think they’ll probably always be in style for us older women, ha ha!!
      Thanks Laura!!

  • fashionistha

What a beautiful post. Loving all the ladies and their attires,

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Nistha!!

  • CreateWithBarb BL

Hi guys, always read your posts with interest. Being just 5′ tall I find capri’s fit me almost like long pants and of course they require no taking up. I have been known to take the hem down a shade just to get that extra inch. They are cooler to wear and I agree have a place in our wardrobes for the summer months. I haven’t worn shorts in years and probably won’t ever again.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m so glad you said that Barb!! Because the 3 of us are all short also (my mom is 5’4″, my stepmom is 5’0″ and I am 5’2″!!
That’s my mom’s trick with ankle pants–she would rather them be full length, so she lets out the hem!! You must be a sewer also??
Thanks for joining in on the conversation—I love to hear what other women wear!

  • Kris Ronchetti

Hello – I recently found your blog and I love it! My favorite pants for the summer are capri’s or crop pants. I have them in so many different colors – all solid colors. Here in Southern California I think they are a must! Love the different styles on your models..what fun. Thank you..

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Kris!!
I do think these pants have a place in our closet—no matter what some articles say!!

    • Nancy Nagy

I am so glad to hear that about Southern California as I am going there at the end of July and I do not have shorts to take-only capris! Sounds like I will be right in style!

  • Oh I love it all the outfits
    The pants are on point!

  • Terri Webster Schrandt

I must have a dozen capris for every occasion! In California, I wear capris even for teaching. Sometimes it’s hot giving a lecture 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

Exactly—I think they work so well, and we can still look nice in them!! It surprises me that I still read many articles that we shouldn’t wear them….

  • Love these capri outfits! There’s something about capris that are always so fun!

    Chow Down USA

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Chelsea!!

  • I love your colour choices on your outfit Jodie. Purple and yellow look great on you!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Suzanne!!
I do love wearing lots of color!!

  • My husband calls them Sun City shorts because that is what everyone wears here. It’s a hard length to pull off. Cute styling!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I totally get it…especially there, Darlene! It’s way too hot for jeans, and most older women don’t love exposing all of their legs with shorts!!
Heck–if you just put all of the focus on our girls or face—then who’s going to care what’s on the bottom half (shhh…don’t tell my husband, I said that–ha ha)

  • Jacqueline Rendine

I love capri pants! I just bought a few pairs! I wear them to work all the time!
    Stylin In St. Louis

    • Jodie Filogomo

OMG—I’m so glad to hear you say that Jacqueline!!

  • You all look great in these capri pants!!! Sadly for me, Im so short that capri pants end up being ankle pants! 😀

    Novelstyle Blog

    • Jodie Filogomo

I totally know that feeling Ileana!! That’s why I ended up shortening this pair for myself. The 3 of us are all considered short also—that’s why I’ve been so thankful that my mom recently taught me to sew!!

  • Rebecca Saffer

There are so many things I love in each of these outfits. I love the purple and yellow of yours, the embroidered capris and shoes of Nancy’s and the beads and bag of your mom’s. In the summer months, I think capris (or cropped pants as I call them) work so beautifully. As you indicated, just tweaking the length a bit, can make this pant flattering for just about everyone.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m so glad you agree, Rebecca!! I really think that with a little tweaking, most items will work for most women. Heck, I never thought I should wear maxis at first, but now I’m a big fan!!
Thanks so much for including my mom & Nancy with those kind words. I make sure to forward the comment to them, so they can read it also!!

  • Judy Gramith

I think every woman needs to wear what makes her feel most comfy and how much of the leg is showing or “cut off ” can have an impact on the overall effect on each individual body… Some of the pants you feature at the end are technically more “ankle pants” and not short enough to be “capris” That said, I’ll again say that, “we need to do what feels good”
Jodie, how about trying just ONE shoulder down?
Nancy, very cute capris and shoes!
Charlotte, I would have wanted to wear RED with those loden green capris if Jodie insisted I wear a color other than green…🤔

    • Jodie Filogomo

You are exactly right Jude!!! And I laugh because most of the capris I’ve tried on really are more ankle pants. That’s when I’m very thankful that my mom has shown me how to sew and alter clothing lately! I used to be so spoiled and I’d just take it for her to do! But I love being able to figure it out myself!!
And I cracked up at your suggestion to my mom—I was a little surprised that she did wear this blue striped shirt, because much of the time, after I choose something for her, she’ll switch it up!! LOL

  • dan

Capris pants can either look very nice or horrible…they are perfect for a casual summer look and with the right accessories , a pair of capris are fresh and chic! I like very much them on you!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Dan!!
I think you’re right. Just like most clothing—the wrong fit or style can be bad for anyone!!

  • Capri pants are perfect for this time of year! Love how you all styled them.

    Treats and Trends

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jamie!!

  • Before I retired capris were my Spring uniform. And i don’t think the look really goes away. It seems that a lot are wearing these shorter flared pants. Aren’t those just a version of capri pants? What stops me now, is the condition of my legs. They feel a lot better with either support stockings or at least calf sleeves so I spread those kind of things out. I do have a pair of wide leg black linen pair from the early 2000’s. I been meaning to drag them out and do something with them. You always make me think! Tell Nancy I love those shoes! And ditto on the strapless bra thing. OK, I’ve rambled on long enough and all three of you look great!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Really…you bring up a great point! They’ve been around a long time (maybe called other names, but really the same)…and even if they aren’t always the perfect flattering piece…they are certainly well loved by many!
Now I can’t wait to see that black linen pair make a cameo on the blog!! I bet you made them??

      • No, TJ Maxx and yes, I am going to do something with them pretty soon.

  • I really like the purple and yellow of your look, especially that adorable bag! Nancy’s embroidered jean capris are so cute and look wonderful with the colorful shoes. So glad you talked Charlotte into the striped shirt, as it is perfect with the olive and really makes a nice statement. Her bright beaded necklace was a great choice!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jennie!!
I know mom and Nancy will love reading this comment as much as I did!! Thanks for being so supportive!! XOXO

  • I always look forward to seeing your posts! What strikes me is just how happy you ladies are in the pictures. You always look like you’re having the time of your lives and that makes me smile 🙂

    Adrianna | http://mimamochi.com/

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Adrianna!! We do try to have fun—life is too serious otherwise…

  • These are all so adorable! I love your flower bag!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Annessa—it’s an old purse, that I just recently rediscovered!! Kinda like when you come back from Germany, I bet??

  • Love the colorful outfits! I know I have different length shorts, but no capris. I like the ways you were them and purple is a great color on you Jodie!
    Have a great day!
    jess xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jess!!
I never had capris until just recently!! They may not be my favorite, but they are a great option if you don’t wear shorts anymore!!

  • Mireille

Great job, ladies! I love each of your looks!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Mireille!!

  • Anne

I was so pleased when I saw Charlotte’s outfit (blue striped shirt and olive pants). I wear pretty much the same outfit and variations at least twice a week. My shirts are from Old Navy and pants are from J. Crew Factory. I’m 65 and I always feel stylish and cool (literally and figuratively) when I wear this combination. Thanks for the post!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I can’t tell you how glad I was to read this Anne. I know I had to twist mom’s arm a little to style the blue with the green. She tends to want to match everything—which is fine, sometimes!! So knowing that you love this too, is a huge plus!!

      • Anne

Happy to help. I never match anything, and I really enjoy putting different colors together.

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Obsessed with your purple and yellow!!! So so pretty!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Andrea!! Heck, if I’m going to be wearing a piece of clothing that many people hate (the capris), then I might as well add in fun color, right?

  • We may not look taller but we will not be any shorter wearing capri pants and we’ll certainly look cooler than in dark jeans.

Nancy is precious with the floral shoes with black heels that match her pants. Somehow the floral just improved the look, almost the way nude shoes do. Charlotte looks so pulled together. Adjacent colors like blue and green are super together when the shades are right.

I’d never thought of wearing pants, shoes and legs all the same color to elongate the look. It works! You look cool and the look is kewl.

Love the little tips you always include, like the heavier necklace holding the neck of a top in place.

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s such a great point Jean! I always say that I’ll never trick anyone in person about my height—I’m short!!
I’m really glad I didn’t give this shirt away–I almost did because it was so open when I bent over. The necklace helped, but I may also try a couple of small brooches on each side attached to my bra strap. Always good to learn new tricks from each other!!

  • I confess I quit wearing capri pants a few years ago, but these look so cute! And shortening them would be a great idea for me with my short legs. 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

I always think that altering items can make them better!! But I know what you’re saying. I would never have worn these 5 years ago….

Capri pants (otherwise known as pedal pushers eons ago) are a good option for warmer weather. It is like other garments…fit matters. All cute outfits… Jodie, I like that you shared the problems with the top. Sometimes a piece of clothing has a mind of its own…ha! Love the color tho, and pairing yellow accessories is perfect. Using a heavier necklace to anchor the neckline is clever! Sometimes I will use a brooch. Nancy’s outfit just suits her…from the cute little shrug to the embroidered capris to the floral shoes. She looks happy in the outfit as it really shows off her personality. You mom is a thrift store champ! Many times you can find much better pieces than in retail stores. She and I would get along very well and could even be shopping buddies…love to go “treasure hunting” in the charity shops. The blue and white top is great for the green capris. Her necklace sets off the whole outfit. Love me some nude sandals. Good call on the light blue purse…great outfit!

    • Jodie Filogomo

See— I totally agree, Donna. That’s why it’s not fair that you hear so much bad press about capris!!
And if you ever make it out to Denver–we’ll plan a shopping excursion with mom!! It’s always more fun with other women!!
I hardly ever think to wear my brooches in the summer…but maybe I could attach it to my bra straps??? Hmmm….

  • I do love a good capri pant!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Jaymie—I’m glad I’m not the only one!!

  • Debbie Stinedurf

You are right; capris do tend to visually cut off the leg line. But you know me…I could care less and wear them anyway! I do love your top and agree with the bra problem. I’ve found a good strapless bra although it’s unlined. That’s why I love lacy bralettes. They’re pretty and meant to be seen and it adds an extra dimension to an off the shoulder top. 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s exactly how I should respond to some of the negative thoughts—because like I always say. I’m not going to trick anyone into thinking I’m tall when I meet them in real life. So what if it looks like I have short legs—I do!!
I may have to try the lace bralettes….do you wear it over another bra? Because they don’t seem to have much support??

      • Debbie Stinedurf

It depends on the top. If it isn’t super clingy then sometimes I just go with the bralette. When I do layer over a bra I wear my strapless…that’s when it being unlined comes in handy. It gives extra support without extra bulk.😉

  • As usual you ladies are rocking a style! Your capri outfits are so cute! I love your shoes Jodie, I always gravitate toward the shoes. You guys were right about the striped top for Charlotte’s outfit. Perfection! I have to get my capris out soon and style them now that you have inspired me! Peace!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for the positive words Cheryl! I know many people think they are awful, but it is summer!!

  • Tina von tinaspinkfriday

Great Post Ladys! In the summertime I love capri or 7/8 pants so much. All styles look great.
I wish you a nice week, tina

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Tina!! I’ve never heard them called 7/8 pants, but I love that term!!

      • Tina von tinaspinkfriday

we learn from one another, Jodie 🙂

  • Merilynn

Please check out what awesome stylist Tim Gunn says about capris – after i heard his views several years ago all of my capris went in the trash. Overall, they are not flattering on women and make your legs look short.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know there are so many negative things about capris, yet I wanted to be realistic. It’s summer and hot outside, so what else to wear?
So what do you wear in the summer now, Merilynn? I know I also love my maxis, but my mom always reminds me, they can be a little dangerous for older women because they are so long and cause her to fall. And Nancy & mom don’t wear shorts anymore….
I’d love to hear and see what you wear to keep cool!! 🙂

  • Esther

This is one of the cutest posts I have ever read.
    Keep up the good work.
Have a lovely day. Love, Esther

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Esther!! That’s so nice of you to be positive about it!!

  • BarbaraRP

I never wear capris, period! They look cute on other people, but they cut me off. I am 5ft 4in with shorter legs. And, although I am of average weight, I carry more weight in my legs and hips. My solution is a skort. They fall just above my knee and I always feel great wearing them.

    • Esther

      Same here. 🙂

      • BarbaraRP

Esther, I just checked out your blog. Einfach fantastisch!

    • Karen Anderson

I love skorts too Barbara, and wear them in place of shorts a lot. They are so flattering, and easy to wear with the shorts attached underneath! Skorts have been my go-to garment this summer! Somehow they always look just right!

      • BarbaraRP

You are so right, Karen! They really do always look just right! 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

I love to hear what others are wearing Barbara. I used to have skorts but I haven’t seen them in the stores recently??
The 3 of us are all petite in height too—but you’re right—capris are just like anything and the silhouette & fit can make all the difference. And sometimes they don’t always look perfect? But sometimes looking nice makes up for it, I think!! (I hope)

      • BarbaraRP

I have 3 skorts and purchased them all at Kohl’s. Check out the Croft and Barrow brand.

        • Jodie Filogomo

          Ahhh….thanks, Barabara!!

  • Bev @ Walking Well With God

I love capri’s….but since I am just 5′ 3″, I have to be sure to get them in a petite size, otherwise I look like I’m expecting the great flood lol. Love the combos here….

    • Jodie Filogomo

That made me laugh Bev!! I’m only 5’2″ and Nancy is 5’0″ so we totally know what you mean!!!

  • Lovely outfits! I love capri pants and this they always look so stylish. What I wouldn’t take my eyes off Jodie was your bag! It’s so pretty!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Gemma!!
I’ve had this purse for a long time, and just found it again in the closet!!

  • Karen Anderson

I have to say that the three of you really pulled off this look! I think I mentioned before that I tried on some (very) wide leg capri pants recently and loved them. They were one size too small, sort of, and the only pair I liked, so I left them behind. But I did love the look. Your pants are not quite as wide but similar in style and I really like them. That top is beautiful and the idea of the heavier necklace to keep it in place is genius! The wedge heel also helps with proportions, and keeping the shoes a neutral, light color elongates your legs. Very pretty look! I think I’d like to go shoe shopping with Nancy! And I love the embroidery detail on her capris. I think if I was to embrace this style, this is the way I’d feel most comfortable going with it, with the fitted style of capris. It would feel more natural to me, though I’d still love a pair of those really wide ones! It’s very true that as we get older and feel less comfortable in shorts, this is a great compromise! I like how your mom combined the stripes and the khaki capris. Looks very modern and youthful, and her necklace is gorgeous! I think that by wearing wedge heels as you all have done here, that does do a great job of extending the look and not making it look so ‘cut off’ at the legs. This post does make me want to go out and try harder with capris. I’m always so inspired by the three of you!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Karen, you are such a source of joy, to read your comments!! Already this morning there has been some push back to the capris and I understand it. There is a ton of negative press about these pieces. But I also think we need to be realistic. It’s hot outside and if you’re not wearing shorts…what do you wear?
Fit and silhouette can make all the difference in my book!! I know I wouldn’t wear these pants 10 years ago, but it’s good to keep an open mind!!
