Wearing Neckglasses as Jewelry

Wearing Neckglasses as Jewelry

Quote of the day: “Learn to conquer your fears. That’s the only art we have to learn to master these days.” Friedrich Durrenmatt

Growing up, we all knew that saying “Guys don’t make passes at girls with glasses”, right? Which is why I was ecstatic to finally be able to wear contacts in high school. However, as time passed, I grew to enjoy my glasses because they were like another accessory. And geez, I am related to the queen of accessories as you’ve seen on the blog many times.

Yet there are still times, that it’s nice not to wear my glasses. Especially when we are going out for a nice dinner.

So let me introduce you to My Neckglasses. When the company first reached out to me to see if I thought they would be a good fit for my blog readers, I immediately thought they’d be great because they are very pretty. I share Karen’s story below along with a discount to my readers if you’re interested.  And the discount is Jodie10 for $10 off your order.

However, let me be extremely honest in the fact that I almost sent them back after receiving them. Because when I tried them out, I felt like an old lady looking through spectacles. In fact, my husband even laughed and made fun of me. But Nancy came up with some advantages to having these, so I thought I’d share them and see what you think.

Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: My glasses are called the Catherine.

In order to give some variety to our outfits, I wanted to think of these pieces as a lovely necklace. And since I am a “spring” for my coloring, I kept the gold pair. I was interested to see how they’d look on a printed top versus a solid colored top.

Therefore I wore a print turtleneck for our fancy evening out to dinner in the above photo. The lighting wasn’t that fabulous at the restaurant, so we ventured into our nearest grocery store to see how’d they work there.

It certainly was a ton easier to have these around my neck in order to see if there was soy in the products we were shopping for. As an aside, my husband was diagnosed with Eosinophilic esophagitis and we are finding that soy is his trigger. And did you realize how soy is in so many products?

For those of you that have reading glasses like we talked about last year, I can see why you’d hang them on a cord around your neck. My Neckglasses does have this version too, even for the man in your life so you don’t have to carry his pair. Then again, it’s not always the most stylish look. Yet peering through my neckglasses did make me feel old fashioned. Did other people notice? I wished I could have asked them.

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: Nancy’s neckglasses are called the Karen.

I gave Nancy the silver pair of these glasses since she’s in the cool family for her coloring. And for our outfits, she opted to wear a solid colored item as opposed to my print piece. Since we were going out to a nice dinner this evening, Nancy wore her little black dress for the occasion, which we’ve styled for winter before.

neck glasses for quick reading

I don’t think you always realize what you can’t read until you are out without your glasses. Just parking and trying to figure out when we have to pay the meter, and how much, could have been a challenge. Luckily our neckglasses were right there for us.

Nancy also wanted to check out the ice cream at the store. Ice cream is her dessert weakness, yet we’ve been trying to find some that doesn’t have as much artificial ingredients. Even though I am a huge Ben and Jerry’s fan, lately we’ve been sticking to Haagen Daz with their 5 ingredient version.

Of course you have to be careful about having these glasses hanging around. Your friend may just grab your pair to use on occasion. That’s why I have the funny face below. Nancy grabbed mine to check out the chicken broth ingredients.

Thanks to one and all of you for your support. It means more than you know!

The Facts

This post is in collaboration with My Neckglasses. I absolutely love trying out new products and companies for your enjoyment, and I appreciate you supporting these companies that want to work with Jodie’s Touch of Style. If you ever have a suggestion for products or companies you would like to see more of, please let me know.

The founder of My Neckglasses, Karen, says pendant styles are for quick views…..like shopping to see a price tag, or reading a menu while out to lunch or dinner. Reading the back of medications, prescription bottles…etc. They are made to look like a necklace as to enhance your outfit not take away from it by wearing  a “granny”cord or having them looped through your blouse or up on your head messing your hair up.

My personality is one that always looks at the pros and cons. After wearing these neckglasses for our night out, I could see how they would be more convenient than your readers that you would need to take out of your purse. Karen, the founder of My Neckglasses, made them with her adventures in cruising in mind because her previous set of reading glasses ended up in her photos and looked awful.

Yet like I discussed with Karen, these aren’t for everyone. If you wear glasses full time or are looking to wear them for a lot of reading, it’s too hard to hold them up for extended periods of time. And these are not available in a huge selection of different strengths as they only go up to a 3.0. Yet I’d love to hear your thoughts. And if you want to partake, make sure to get $10 off with the code Jodie10.
