What to Wear with a Linen Skirt
As part of our summer love theme, Lesley is showing us what to wear with a linen skirt. The idea of focusing on summer love was brought up in our Ageless Style group where I showcased what I considered iconic summer pieces.
Quote of the day: You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back.” Barbara De Angelis
This quote feels perfect not only for loving because we need more of that in the world. Yet also because I interpret the quote as one that promotes trying and experimenting!! You may “think” you don’t like linen because it wrinkles easily, yet there are many variations of linen pieces now. In fact, Chicos has a wrinkle free linen.
I hope you’ll also keep reading below where Lesley shares not only what to wear with a linen skirt but also her responses to what summer means to her for other categories. And check out how Charlotte wore her summer outfit.
Lesley’s Idea What to Wear with a Linen Skirt
Skirt: Sonoma- thrifted ~~Jacket: Westbound- thrifted ~~Top: BY & JJ ~~ Shoes: Walking Cradles ~~Necklace: thrifted ~~ Purse: Amazon~~Hat:
It’s common knowledge that the natural materials are cooler in the hot months. Which is why linen items are so popular in the summertime.
It’s also why I included it as one of the items on our scavenger list from last week. Both Lesley’s “jacket” and skirt are items found while “hunting” at Goodwill that day.
She opted to pair the skirt with a tank top and a jacket. Both the colors in her tops are found in the skirt. The tank top was worn with the matching pants here which made it look like a jumpsuit.
Insider tip: If you are looking for linen that doesn’t look as wrinkly, search for the white or dark pieces. It’s not as easy to see the wrinkles in those items. For example, this skirt doesn’t look very wrinkled. Yet Lesley had been sitting for 2 hours in the car before these photos.
OR, look for linen blend in the material that can make the piece more wrinkle resistant. For example, adding cotton or rayon to linen will help keep wrinkles away.
A colorful necklace is a great accessory. We’ve discussed ways to pair our necklaces with different necklines in the past. Having a long necklace like this is good at creating a vertical focus.
And the belt bag makes another appearance. It makes a lot of sense for us as we are going to many places in the area. I’ve shown how it can work with 5 different types of outfits. And Lesley showcased this same one but carried it recently.
Funny story about this belt bag. It’s the same one as her red one that she wore here. However, the “belt” that came with this tan bag was shorter and wasn’t comfortable to wear around her waist. So Lesley got creative and used the crossbody strap that came with it as the belt instead.
Insider tip: Most belt bags are not attached to the belt so you can switch the belt portion to match an outfit. I did this when we went apple picking.
I love that Lesley wore this blouse as a jacket. It goes to show the versatility of a button up top especially if your blouses tend to gap making you stay away from wearing them. On the blog in the past, the three of us wore our white blouses this way along with wearing them under a sleeveless dress.
Sneakers and A Skirt
The idea of wearing sneakers with a skirt is not a new trend. I know this because one of my readers shared with me a photo last year of herself in the 1960’s or 70’s wearing both together.
If you’re on the fence about it, how about finding sneakers that look more like a shoe you would wear with a skirt? For example, this pair resembles a loafer style.
By the way, these sneakers Lesley purchased from Walking Cradles. Since we have been exploring our area, we are in need of comfortable shoes that can be worn all day walking.
And the nice thing about this “Orleans” style is the perforations which add some breathing ability.
Again, I am a Walking Cradles ambassador which means I sincerely appreciate your purchasing through my link as I receive a small commission. On your first purchase (most sales excluded) you can get 15% off with the code JODIE15. EVEN if you want a sale shoe, taking the time to go through my link is appreciated.
Insider tip: If you don’t like wearing your sneakers without socks, I have found the best no show socks with the company Sheec. They stay on ALL day and help my feet not sweat as much. The code JODIE gives you 15% off.
Options of What to Wear with a Linen Skirt
Let me give some options about other items that would work with this look. Most of us consider skirts as a dressier item, yet the linen material seems the opposite. So let’s have fun with thinking outside the box for what to wear with a linen skirt.
Lesley opted to wear another linen piece with her linen skirt which is always a classic choice. Here are more ideas:
1-Graphic tee or t-shirt
2-Chambray shirt (short or long sleeve)
Lesley’s Summer Loves
I thought it’d be fun to pick our brains about what summer means to each of us when it comes to other categories. Here’s what Lesley said.
Food: Ball Park hot dogs. Fresh fruit!
Drink: Margarita lots of salt and on the rocks. Cooooool!
Song: Summertime (and the livin’ is easy…) from Porgy & Bess
Movie: The Long Hot Summer with Paul Newman & Joanna Woodward
Memory: Being a camp counselor at 4H camp in Colorado. Going to the neighborhood pool (still a favorite activity, but it’s year round now) Drive in Movies. Camping & picnics in the mountains.
Event: Food & Wine Classic I was lucky enough to attend several times in Aspen. Great wine, good food interesting seminars and seeing how the 10% really lives.
Favorite Season: Fall. The beauty of changing leaves. Crisp air, cool nights. The start of school was a new beginning each year. I appreciate the beauty of the dying leaves and know that there is also beauty in dying and know that rebirth will follow soon.

My hope is that you get ideas and inspirations from Charlotte, Lesley and myself. It’s not about copying what we wear, but about using what you already have and updating items along the way.
Most of all it’s getting us to think differently and dare I say, have fun?
