What to Wear with Camo Shorts for Women 5 Different Ways
What to wear with camo shorts may seem daunting the first time you think about it. Seriously, how did this print come to be mainstream? But it is, and it’s really quite fashionable.
Quote of the day: “The vast majority of human beings dislike and even dread all notions with which they are not familiar. Hence it comes about that at their first appearance innovators have always been derided as fools and madmen.” Aldous Huxley
Which makes this quote very apropos with the idea of camo print to us non hunters. Being out in Colorado with my ex being an avid hunter, I’m not a stranger to camo. Yet I never thought I’d be wearing it as a fashion statement. It goes to show that I’m learning never to say never.
What to Wear with Camo Shorts
When the idea first came to me that maybe I should try a camo item, I wasn’t entirely sure that I would wear it much. So I scoured the second hand stores first. And that’s where I found these shorts.
I always love the idea of shopping the thrift stores if you’re not sure of a trend. My thinking is in the case you don’t end up loving it, you haven’t wasted a ton of money. I have quite a few blog posts focused on thrifting tips if you’re interested.
Whether you have a camo top, pants, vest or jacket in your wardrobe, I wanted to present 5 different options of how to pair it with other things in your closet. Let’s start with the easy and end with some print mixing.
One of the easiest colors to pair with the camo print is a neutral like black or white. I have to admit that black seems to be the most popular. And we tried that once on the blog.
However, since I’m working hard to stay away from black near my face, I opted for white this day. This blouse was hand made for me by my mom!! I’ve worn it before on the blog with a western inspired outfit.
And notice that I do have a headband in my hair. I’ve been trying hard to incorporate more hair accessories into my looks since my experiment with learning about them.

The three of us along with a couple of other bloggers showcased camo with pastels a couple of years ago. Since I wore lilac at that time, I wanted to see how a very light, mint green/blue would look. Today, I used the half tuck for the top.
I like the idea of pastels (or even the white eyelet above) because it’s more feminine as opposed to the camo print which I think of as more masculine. That’s why I also added in the heels. Sure heels and shorts seem like opposites, but that’s the fun part of style.
This time I tried that twisting detail with my hair that many people commented they liked from the hair accessory post. And this necklace is super cool because it’s adjustable. You can see how many ways you can wear it on my short IG video. Katia sells them on her Etsy shop site if you’re interested.

Contrasting the muted colors of the camo print with brights is my first thought when thinking about what to wear with camo shorts. In fact, all three of us have done this twice on the blog in the past. The first time was with other bloggers and the last time by ourselves.
I decided to add in a bunch of colors this time. In fact, this top has a fun back view which you can see on Instagram. The brand is Peach and comes in white too. It’s not only stylish but can be worn for workouts. In fact, you could easily wear this under a blazer for work because it seems dressier since it’s a shiny material.
And my belt bag makes another appearance. I think what I really like about some of the newer belt bags is that some are more structured. We were walking down to meet a friend for coffee this day, so it was nice not to carry a purse.

Neutral Print Mixing
I started with this outfit by just wearing the neutral print top. Of course I couldn’t help myself to add in the yellow shoes and purse. Then once we decided we would be in mom’s basement (purging, of course), I needed the jacket for warmth.
So really you could call this outfit an example of camo with bright colors. But pretend that the jacket isn’t there, and it’s all about neutral print mixing. Which has been demonstrated on the blog before.
Maybe this is one reason why camo is so popular now? The print is muted and you can add other prints to it with success. With this look, I did tuck in the top, so I added a neutral belt. I’ve been out of the habit of wearing belts much, but after making a video about them, I wanted to work on wearing them more.

Bold Print Mixing
Last but not least I decided to get bold with my print mixing by adding in a bright colored striped top. Stripes go with everything or so say all the other bloggers!
I was recently sent this striped tee from Mott & Bow. If you love basics, then this is your kind of company. Just wait until I tell you about their jeans. This is the Sara striped classic crew, and I knotted it at the bottom to give it a little shape. It’s one of my tricks to get a boxy t-shirt to fit better which I showcased in a video.
Since the prints are a big focus in this outfit, I kept my jewelry plain and matched my sandals to the red of the shirt. I did add in a little whimsy with the lime green purse.
