What to Wear with Striped Pants
Striped pants. Maybe something you wouldn’t think you needed or should wear. I get it. But then again, how many pairs of black pants do we really need? So when I was analyzing my closet, I realized I haven’t worn these much. Which brought me the idea to style them for 5 days in a row.
Quote of the day: “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all.” Dale Carnegie
I’d call this quote persistence which could be the idea behind this post. I challenged myself to this same idea last month with my gold pants. And while I have worn these striped pants at least once on the blog, I haven’t felt that they were as versatile as I’d hoped when I purchased them.
Another reason I could be having issues styling these is that they are wide legged and cropped. While I talked about cropped pants as part of the spring trends, that doesn’t mean I know exactly how to wear them. But practice makes perfect, right? And I discovered exactly when they are PERFECT to wear.
What to Wear with Striped Pants
I can hear almost all of you saying you would never wear horizontal striped pants. Wouldn’t they make you look bigger? If that thought went through your head, then please reread the striped jacket post from last year. Julia had the best quote about stripes that we should ALL remember.
Needless to say, I’m going to link to vertical striped pants for the following similar links ONLY because they are much easier to find. And maybe then you’ll like them better.
I’m sure the most popular color to pair with these striped pants would be black since there’s so much black in them. But since that would be the easy go to for most of you, I wanted to suggest other options. Besides, I’m trying hard to stay away from black since it doesn’t look great with my complexion.
Now I can’t remember the last time I wore pants on Easter. We always tend to dress up but since I ask you guys to think outside the box, I decided to too. And the funniest part? Both my mom and Nancy ended up wearing pants also. You can see our Easter photo in my April recap post. Somehow we must all be on the same wavelength.
I think of these pants as dark, so I thought I’d try to lighten them up with a white blazer. You’ll see this same blazer next week too. Yes, I wear some items in my closet over and over.
I’ve become such a fan of white footwear. It seems fresh, modern and perfect with everything. These mules I bought from Walking Cradles. You can still get 15% off with the code Style15 until July 1, 2019. These are so comfortable I wore them home from the Shoe Stravaganza throughout the airport and everything. BTW, if you sign up for their emails, you get notified of other great sales. Lately they had a BOGO sale. You may think it’s shocking that I spent that kind of money on shoes. But there are times, that quality is important.
Let me also tell you about these earrings. They were gifted to me by a woman, Pam Neri, from the Forever Fierce Facebook group who is a jewelry maker. She has the most unique and interesting pieces. I hope you check out her designs.
Monday at Home
This day was a stay at home, not leave the house day. While sometimes, I actually stay in my pajamas for days like this (shhhhh….don’t tell the fashion police), I decided I needed to keep with the theme.
So I threw on a sweatshirt, sneakers, and a baseball cap. It really made me feel like I could casualize these pants easily because I really liked the look.
As for these silver sneakers, I adore them. These were actually DIYed for me by my friend, Jude. And while you may not think you need a pair of silver sneakers, I’m here to prove you wrong. I have worn these SO much because they go with everything.
So here’s what I paired with the striped pants for a day of errands and running around. It was still chilly outside, so the vest kept me warm.
NOW this is when I found out the perfect reason to wear these pants!! For a pedicure!! If you’re anything like me, you don’t want to wear tight pants because you have to try to pull the pants up over your calf. And a skirt is too revealing. So wide legged pants are ideal.
And this vest is one that I DIYed myself. It was a jacket and I found I didn’t wear it much because it was too lightweight. So I removed the sleeves to make it a vest. Now I wear it much more.
On the schedule for this day was a massage. Because of that, I think about wearing pieces that are easy to get on and off. Including my shoes and jewelry. I also don’t like to wear a really nice shirt because I’m oily afterwards.
That’s one reason I grabbed this t-shirt. While it is a t-shirt, I think it’s more interesting and fun with the 3-D flowers on it. If I hadn’t been taking photos of my outfits, I would have grabbed a white t-shirt. But since I’d already worn that for this series, I grabbed my grey top. Grey is a neutral that we tend to forget about, yet it goes with almost everything.
And the cutest thing is my massage guy even complimented me on these earrings. It always amazes me when guys notice clothing or accessories (besides my husband). You’ll see I wore the same earrings the next day too, because they are multi colors and go with so much.
For the last day of this challenge, I pulled out my utility jacket. I was invited to be an ambassador for Peach which is a lifestyle brand of clothing. What that means is I am given some of their clothing to style and talk about and get a commission for any purchases if my link is used. The only reason I said yes to this brand was because they are more about athletic wear. And I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. Here’s the Instagram post with me wearing the culottes, top, jacket and scarf. While their pieces aren’t super cheap, the quality is nice. AND they have a sale tab! And I have ended up loving the culottes and this jacket.
You can thank Lesley for the perfect necklace that goes with these pants. Lesley is a friend that has helped out on the blog. She recently moved to Arizona, and gave me this necklace as she was purging her things.
And here’s another example that I am loving white footwear lately. These sneakers I wore recently with a dress on the blog.
