What to Wear to the Farmer’s Market

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

What to Wear to the Farmer’s Market

What to wear to the farmer’s market is important to think about so you are comfortable. Yet the farmer’s markets are much more than getting “groceries.” This quote reminded me that really we are giving support to the small businesses in our local area. And heck, you could meet some fun people in the process.

Quote of the day: “The most important thing in any relationship is not what you get but what you give.” Eleanor Roosevelt

I love that these markets have become so popular everywhere. Either that or I wasn’t paying attention 10 years ago? And sometimes we joke that it’s amazing the kinds of items that you can find at the farmer’s market. Coffee, pastries, pet supplies, and hopefully some fruits and veggies.

We headed out to the Cherry Creek Farmer’s Market after our fun morning at the thrift store. It’s all about how different outfits can be appropriate depending on what kind of shopping you are doing during the day.

And this was a warm day to be sure. I feel like most farmer’s markets are out in the open without a lot of shade or coverage. And as much as I realize it’s a casual affair, it’s also good to be comfortable. So you wouldn’t see me in jeans!

Why I Wore This Outfit

I always feel cooler in my dresses. Even though most people consider dresses to be more formal, I adore them especially in the summer months. I recently bought this dress from Target on one of those “go for one thing and come out with a dozen items” run. And just so you know, I did alter it. I took up the shoulder seams so you couldn’t see down the front as much and to make the armholes smaller. It’s always amazing how a little change like this can make a garment feel more comfortable.

I’m so glad I bought this backpack for many of our outings. To me, it’s a better way to carry things so my shoulders don’t hurt. Yet I just read someone mention they don’t like them because they are hard to get things in and out of quickly.

So if you have that same experience, then a cross body purse would also be smart. I would think you’d want a small enough purse so it’s not in the way of all the things you buy at the market.  Then again, maybe you want a tote that you can carry your purchased items in also?

Interesting Tidbit

These sneakers were a surprise find when we were at Gordmans searching for a kitty bed. Somehow I ventured over to the shoes, and found these distressed sneakers for under $15. And they are the most comfy sneakers ever. Of course, Nancy will tell you the same thing about her Rocket Dog sneakers. So maybe it’s the brand?

Why Charlotte Wore This Outfit

My mom actually goes to the local farmer’s market almost every Saturday so she knows it’s usually hot and not shaded. Even though it’s hot, one of her concerns is not being too exposed yet keeping cool. That’s why she chose capri pants, an open shoulder shirt and her walking sandals.

I know there’s always controversy about if women should wear capris but if you had capris that were this cute, of course you should wear them. My mom wore this same pair when we went to the Botanic Gardens last summer and it goes to show how everything goes with them.

I realize most women are too hot in the summer to wear a scarf. I’m the same way, yet I think it’s because my mom keeps her decollete covered that it’s still very unwrinkled. Of course the other option would be to find a shirt where the neckline is higher. There are strappy versions in black or more of a white blouse version where you can control how high you button it.

These earrings were made by our friend, Jude who we met out in Seattle last year. I can’t tell you how much fun the tassel earrings are right now. If you don’t have a pair or two, I think it’s a perfect addition to any closet.

As for this scarf, you can probably guess by now that my mom made it. And yes, it was leftover material from a skirt that needed to be shortened.

Tips & Tricks

Just like most shopping excursions, the right shoes can make or break it. We all want comfortable shoes, and we all want them to look great too. I’m sure glad that shoe companies are really coming up with great solutions. Even the sneakers nowadays are way more fun and interesting than the gym shoes we were brought up wearing.

You can see that both my mom and I brought our hats. Even Rob had his hat on when he was taking photos. Sure, they can make you hotter. Sure they can flatten your hair. But I think we are finally learning to keep our sun exposure to a minimum. Needless to say we also slathered on the sunscreen. Even when it’s not sunny, it’s a good thing.

The one thing we didn’t think about for this outing was a great tote bag. I just received the most colorful one as a gift that I wished I had for these photos. You know the type? It’s foldable when you’re not using it, and very lightweight. If you go to the farmer’s market, I think it’s a must have. If you love color then this one fits the bill. Or there’s always the more subdued ones. Trust me, I wish we’d had one of these for the huge kolhrabi and coffee that we ended up buying!
