There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be wearing a white dress in the fall season. Gone are the days when certain colors were saved for certain seasons.
Now we put more stock into a versatile wardrobe and can make most clothes work all year long.

If you’ve ever wished you could have a better wardrobe, now is the time to start taking my ideas to heart.
Yes, wearing a white dress in the fall is perfectly acceptable and fabulously stylish.

I’ve showcased white dresses many times in the past if you want to see more.
Insider tip: White dresses aren’t always easy to find thrifting because they can be dingy and stained by the time they are in a secondhand store. But take heart. If you find one that is perfect in every other way, you can always dye it to be another color.
Cathie: Brown Accessories with a White Dress for Fall
Starting with a minimal way of wearing your white dress for fall, Cathie adds brown accessories and booties to create an amazing look.
While Cathie is as frugal as can be, she did splurge on these ankle boots years ago. Fabulous footwear that fits well is a good foundation for our feet and outfits.
A darker brown or cognac brown is a fabulous color to bring the fall vibe into any look.
Cathie is accessorized with gold jewelry, even though the ankle boot’s hardware is silver. Mixing metals is a very modern approach.
Charlotte: White Dress with Yellow Cardigan
My mom has had this cardigan for over 7 years and has worn it many times on the blog as far back as in a dressy capris post.
Yellow may seem like a summer color yet it’s one of those colors you see with the changing leaves in fall.
Short-sleeved cardigans may not seem as functional either, but they can be perfect for the transition to fall when the temperatures are still warm, yet you need a topper.
My mom made this hi-low dress many years ago, and it’s been a staple in her closet. It’s the perfect option for wearing a white dress in the fall because it’s easy to layer and has an interesting hemline.
She added a belt under the cardigan and then incorporated a variety of colors in her purse.
Notice those fabulous earrings that one of our readers made for her. They are made of small beads in the shape of an owl and are amazing.
Jodie: Wearing a White Dress for Fall with a Long Vest
Toppers are an easy layering tool for the idea of wearing a white dress in the fall. I chose this lilac long vest and used a man’s tie for my belt.
Insider tip: Here’s the original video on how to transform a men’s tie into a belt like this. I’ve also created one out of 2 ties from this video.
All three of us gave some variety with our choice of footwear to wear with a white dress for fall.
Cathie wore ankle boots, my mom wore sneakers and I wore ballet flats with crew socks, no less.
As discussed in the Fall Trends 2024 article, crew socks are something the younger kids are wearing. While it might look strange to us because we aren’t used to the look, it behooves us to take a stab at these new trends.
The advantage of crew socks is you can add a bit of whimsy and fun to any look. Remember, you should care less if something makes you look taller. That “er” kind of thinking does not make you a better person.
The other advantage is they are inexpensive. Make sure to check out how they are being worn on different sites for inspiration.
If you are unsure, this sheer variety like mine is a great way to start.
Wearing White Dresses in Fall
I love how you can see the variety of lengths when wearing our white dresses for fall. It goes to show there is something for everyone.
Each of us chose a different type of dress, Cathie’s is eyelet, my mom’s is a hi-low hem, and mine is a knit material.
We also gave you a variety of footwear options.
Funny and unplanned was how we all wore a belt.
Insider tip: A belt can work for any shape or any age.
Now go forth and have fun wearing a white dress in fall so your closet can be very versatile.
