If you think about a yellow and white outfit, you could imagine that it could be a tad boring. Why? Maybe because both yellow and white are lighter colors and wouldn’t stand out.
Heck, then if you add the fact that a white-haired lady is wearing the outfit, you would only see lots of the two hues. So Charlotte added other colors to the mix and made this outfit fit her personality. Stylish and sassy. In fact, I would venture to say it’s one of my favorite outfits ever. Especially because of another fact that I will showcase below.
Quote of the day: “Choosing not to act is to choose a side. It’s either action or silence.” Rachael Denhollander
I would go as far as to say that this quote could be used for taking the time to put together a stylish outfit. Sure, you might think it just doesn’t matter and isn’t worth the time. But I always think then you are choosing silence or invisibility as the case may be.
My motto: You never regret the time it takes to look nice.
Yellow is not what I would consider a popular color, yet it evokes a happy emotion and I do see it more in the spring and summertime.
That’s why we explored ideas of wearing yellow this week.

Charlotte’s Yellow and White Outfit
When my mom suggested a yellow and white outfit, I immediately chimed in that she needed another color with the look. I had visions of an outfit that I considered a “what not to wear” from our frumpy florals post.
So we went through her closet and found this striped cardigan. What a perfect item to add interest to her yellow and white outfit.
After we pulled out the cardigan, we picked out orange shoes, and from there it was fun to find other orange items. So while the basis of this ensemble is a yellow top and white pants, you certainly get a lot more sass from the extra elements.
Cardigan Style
By this time in our lives, I’m sure we have a bunch of cardigans in our closets. These are such basic items that can finish an outfit so nicely or be functional by providing warmth.
I think it’s beneficial to have both long and short cardigans PLUS print and solid ones so that you have a nice variety depending on the occasion.
For instance, a striped cardigan like this can easily coordinate with a multitude of other colors in your wardrobe. And that’s exactly what makes it versatile.
Insider tip: When the retail stores only sell a certain length of cardigans, you can usually find other options at secondhand stores.
Accessories for a Yellow and White Outfit
Even if you didn’t have a striped cardigan with the yellow and white outfit, it’s so stylish to add an entirely different color with the accessories. You can see how this would look in the photos below when Charlotte removed the cardigan.
Let’s talk about this purse. It’s actually one of those clear purses and since it says Paul Mitchell on it, I bet it was part of a promotion. You know, the kind when you buy this and that and get the bag free?
Take a close look at that clear purse which is lined with a scarf. I bought that scarf for her birthday since it had owls on it. And she tied each end of the scarf around the bottom of each strap to create a lining for the purse.
It also hides all of the junk insides, haha.
Adding a hat to your look is a great way to give your complexion some color too. In fact, it’s one of my secrets about wearing a “bad” color.
Uncover Your Arms
OMG, seeing my mom take off her cardigan was the best part of my day. This is one of the reasons, this outfit is one of my favorites. Most of the time Charlotte will only wear 3/4 length sleeve shirts.
I realize that the changes in our bodies are disconcerting. But in reality, it’s part of life, so why should we be so embarrassed by it?
Our bodies have been changing our entire lives. As kids, we grew. The teenage years brought us adolescence. Then some of us had children which also changed our bodies. It’s a cycle that we should learn to embrace.
Now we see changes in our skin that make us feel that we need to cover up. Yet have you ever looked at Sharpei puppies with their numerous wrinkles? Our thought is “how cute” yet we don’t think that when we see our changing skin texture.
Reality check: Learning to love our bodies is a mindset. Not an easy mindset change, but one that is SO worth working on.
Being happy with the body that we have at this point in time is a hugely freeing thought. And wearing the clothes we want is part of that.
Just think how your options open up when you don’t limit yourself to certain sleeve lengths.
Another reality check: No one really cares about your body flaws. They are too concerned about their own!! LOL!
So I’d like to give a standing ovation to Charlotte for taking off her cardigan and walking around the McCormick Railroad park without it.
Orange Shoes
If it’s one thing we believe in, it’s colorful shoes. I always say that shoes are fabulous because you can gain 10 pounds and they still fit. So why not indulge in different colors and shapes to add variety to your outfits.
Charlotte added sass to her yellow and white outfit with the colorful sweater and then carried more orange throughout the look with her accessories AND the shoes.
Insider tip: One of the inexpensive ways to try out different colors of shoes is to find them at secondhand stores. I’ve explained how to make sure you get a good pair in this article.
Ageless Style
I just wanted to point out that looking at Charlotte’s outfit from the back, you would never know she’s 84. All you see is a beautiful and stylish human!!
So add some color to your looks and have fun with your style!! It’s a mood booster!
