How Your Yellow Shoes Can be a Great Contrast Item

I always love the idea that your shoes could be a great contrast item. Now I always think of a pop of color being in contrast to neutrals. However, I decided to bring in more variety with other options besides pairing it with only neutrals. My outfit is basic neutrals (black & white), Nancy’s has some muted colors along with her neutrals, and mom went with a monochromatic aqua look. Since our shoes are yellow, we accessorized with yellow! We also wore the same shoes with a matching outfit, and a contrasting outfit.

I do realize that I have an obsession with shoes; however, they can be such a fun addition to an outfit, in my opinion! Scouring through our closets, I realized that the three of us all owned yellow shoes (I suppose I had a little to do with that fact–ha ha). Thus, the makings of another blog series!

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile then you’ll realize that yellow is my recent favorite color. And so many people will say that they can’t wear the color (I’m here to argue that point though—it’s the shade of yellow that makes a difference). But even if you don’t want to wear it next to your face, then how about on your feet?

As for our yellow shoes? To add some fun and variety I made sure all of our styles were a little different. Mom is wearing peep-toe flats (she also has a pair of yellow pumps in her closet), Nancy has sandals, and I wore my heels. I have sandals too, but they are very much like Nancy’s.

Jodie’s (50’s) Yellow Shoes Outfit:

We decided to take pictures last minute on a Sunday—so I have no makeup on except for the lipstick (thus the sunglasses—besides they were yellow!).

I even went on an accessory restraint—see, no necklace or bracelet. But for some reason my husband loved, loved, loved this outfit! I may just have to wear it on our next date night!!

The jeans I just bought online, so when I tried them on, I was a little worried that they were too tight.

Yet, I think they look fine in the pictures? So maybe I’ve been buying my pants too big?

I decided to roll up the hem to show off the shoes. I’ve actually had these shoes for at least 4 years, and they are a tad worn. But a little help from my Magic Eraser made them look almost new again!!

The hair? I had just gotten it trimmed and I usually have her straighten it (you’ll see that in the last post of this series, too). Don’t you just love straight hair?

I really do wish this was my normal, but alas, I am learning to embrace what my body has been given. I can rationalize why I like it so much though. It’s neat & organized just like the way my brain works. Curly hair? Hah—there’s no organization going on there!!

Nancy’s (60’s) Yellow Shoes Outfit: Nancy’s pants are the ones we featured in the ankle pants series (see these posts starting here).

They are such a great fit on her and have so many colors with which to coordinate. They don’t actually have a real yellow in them, it’s more of a green that has a yellow tint! But that’s why the sandals can be considered a pop of yellow.

Since we had Nancy add a basic tee to the outfit we then added in two necklaces for fun!

The tassel one is about the same length as the other one, so I just shortened it with an orthodontic rubber band. (If you have a kid in braces, make sure to snag a couple of their elastics for this such purpose—I do this all the time)

Charlotte’s (70’s) Yellow Shoes Outfit: My mom is a huge fan of a monochromatic outfit  (I am letting the divas choose their own outfits at times!!).

When she first received these jeans (we did an entire blog series on colored jeans here), she was all about matching shirts to them. Needless to say, I’ve had her wear them many times with non-matching shirts. However, for her pop of yellow shoes, I thought this was a fun look.

And anytime, I get mom to laugh in her picture shoot is a good time!! Isn’t this such a great photo of her??

Since many women have commented that they don’t always remember to wear necklaces, I thought I’d show mom’s outfit with some accessory restraint also! Especially since her earrings are somewhat longer.
