Yes YOU Can Wear Yellow with the Magnificent 8
Everyone CAN wear yellow! Sure, I hear over and over from women that they can’t. Yet, it’s just like any color in the fact there are warm and cool versions along with many shades and values of it. Heck, even if you don’t like any of it near your face, I think we’ve proven how yellow shoes can be fabulous summer footwear.
Quote of the day: “Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” Maya Angelou
This quote is not only perfect for everyday, yet especially a day that concentrates on the color yellow. Why? Because yellow is a happy color and maybe that’s the reason we should wear it more.
Today’s theme is brought to you by my Magnificent 8 group of women where women of every decade come together to show that style is ageless. I hope you check them out below.
The best part is you get to see all three of us showcasing how to wear yellow and our thoughts about the color in this one post.
Jodie with a Yellow Print
Dress: Banana Republic ~~ Tee: Halftee c/o~~Shoes: Impo~~ Necklace: ~~ Earrings: ~~ Purse:
I bought this yellow dress this spring with my Banana Republic rewards. I added a snap at the chest area when I first got it to make it more modest. However, I’ve gained more weight this spring than would allow even for that alteration. Thanks to my friend, Debbie’s thoughts, I decided to wear my half tee under it instead.
The shape and flow of this dress (along with the color) is what drew me towards it. I figured it would be perfect for the 100 degree days. And I was right. The sweat slid down without sticking to me!
Insider tip: Halftees are a brand that are made for modesty yet no bulk in the midrift. They have a band under the girls so it doesn’t ride up. With my link, you can get 10% off (and I receive a small commission, so thank you)
I decided to be crazy and wear print shoes with the print dress. With all of the colors in this dress, I have many footwear options that would work. Yet even I like to push myself at times.
And yes, with my summer sandals, you can be sure I’m wearing my Sheec cushions for padding. I have a page at the top of my website if you’re interested.
Insider tip: If it’s hard to buckle your shoe straps, I found a way to replace the buckle with velcro. I’ve used this trick on the majority of my ankle strap shoes and LOVE it.
Yellow in My Life
I wouldn’t say I’ve always been a yellow fan. In fact, I never thought much about bright colors when I was a dentist. The profession seemed so serious that I concentrated on neutrals and trying to appear muted.
Fast forward to retirement and blogging, and now I love the idea of color. While I tend to profess that yellow is now my favorite color, I think deep down I’m an equal opportunity color lover.
Ideas to Wear Yellow from Lesley
Pants: Style & Co ~~ Top: Focus Casuals ~~ Shoes: Walking Cradles c/o ~~ Necklace: ~~ Bracelet: ~~ Purse: The Sak
Lesley chose a more muted yellow and combined it with olive green capris. The brighter yellows came out more in her accessories. In fact, the scarf has the same colors as her outfit.
Her choice for footwear are these metallic sandals that go with absolutely everything. This is a pair of Walking Cradles that are not only comfortable, but have adjustable velcro straps to make them fit your feet better. This style is called the Conway, however, there are many styles that have this adjust ability for comfort.
As an ambassador of Walking Cradles, I receive a commission from any purchase through my link. My discount code, JODIE, gives you 15% off any non sale items.
Insider tip: A scarf can be the perfect inspiration for a color combination for your outfit. Make sure to include the scarf in your look to tie it all together. Last summer we showcased 3 different ways to wear scarves in the summer. And keep your eyes peeled for more ideas soon.
Lesley and Yellow
Yellow is one of Lesley’s favorite colors. While she doesn’t have many clothing pieces in yellow, she accents with it often. And she uses it a ton in her home decor. In fact, we’ve talked about how blue and yellow are her signature colors.
Insider tip: If you don’t love yellow near your face, then a purse or shoes are the perfect ways to add a punch of color to any outfit.
Lesley has many memories of the color yellow. Her dream car when she was in high school was a yellow Corvair. She wore a yellow dress on her first date with her first love. And her first wedding dress was a yellow mini with a white long vest that she made (it was the spring of 1970).
Charlotte and Yellow Stripes
Pants: Blair ~~ Top: thrifted ~~ Shoes: Nine West~~ Earrings: ~~ Purse: Melrose and Market ~~Hat:
Charlotte has many different yellow tops, and this one was purchased at Goodwill. Of course, she loves a monochromatic outfit so she paired the top with her yellow capris and yellow shoes. You saw these shoes recently with a white and blue outfit.
I love that she did add in a different color with her straw purse.
And notice the parrot t-shirt holder. My mom bought this in Cancun Mexico and is meant to be a tie for a t-shirt. Yet thinking about how it’s just a hollow circle, it could also be used as a scarf clip/holder. Many of the things we have can be used to help style our scarves as we’ve discussed in the past. Which makes me think those same items could also be used to tie up the extra material of a tee.
Insider tip: You can always use a hair elastic to tie up your tops (or kimonos), and then cover the elastic with a decorative item like this.
Mom and Yellow
After the color blue, yellow is my mom’s favorite color. That has been the same for her entire life. In fact, her wedding color was yellow, as her bridesmaid’s dresses were yellow.
Even in her houses, Charlotte has had yellow kitchens. I’m sure it’s not surprising that she has had and still has many clothing items of the color also.
Did You Notice?
I didn’t point it out in my outfit, but did you notice that I was wearing two different earrings? LOL!! Many times I put on 2 different earrings and ask Rob which one he prefers. Well, we must have gotten distracted, and I forgot to ask Rob, and we went on our happy way for the day.
While he was taking photos, he noticed. And we laughed and laughed!! Yet really, they are very similar. Either that or I’m starting a new trend.
Insider tip: IF you ever ask someone to choose between two pieces, then you should go with what they pick. It’s rude to ask and then not take their opinion.
