The Bottom Line on How to Wear Winter White

How to wear winter white can be done so many different ways. If you’ve been following along, you can see it styled with a dress, or a column of color. Charlotte is showing it today as the outer layer, so I thought I’d give some overall tips below too.

Quote of the day: “If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.” Margaret Fuller

While white had been banned after Labor Day if you followed the fashion rules, luckily times have changed. In fact, evolving in our style is something I truly think we all need to consider.
The important aspect to remember about style is twofold.
1-Does it make you happy?
2-Does it reflect who you are personality wise?

I think most of us followed the fashion rules for so long because it was the thing to do. Most of us are rule followers and in that respect we would know that one didn’t wear this or that.
There was a time when we were wearing what everyone else wore made us feel connected. Yet now? Now, I hope we can all put a little individuality into each and every outfit.

While the idea was how to wear winter white for this look, we also wanted to showcase ways to add in color with your winter whites. Charlotte added in a rich burgundy color with her top under her shrug and matched it to her scarf and shoes too.

Accessories

It’s no wonder I like accessories as much as I do. I always say I came by it honestly. My mom loves her rings, bracelets and scarves. The scarf clip she is using on this velvet scarf was picked up at a gift shop.

Insider tip: Scarf clips and rings are an easy way to keep the ends tamed and together. They are available on Amazon in a couple of different varieties. There are the 3 ring version, an “x” shape, and the buckle ones.

Notice the flower on her hat. This was leftover material from tunics she had made in the past.

Insider tip: You can add pins, brooches or scarves to almost any hat.

Furry Shrug

Texture is a fabulous concept. Charlotte has incorporated not just velvet in her scarf, but also this furry shrug as part of the outfit. Texture takes a monochromatic outfit and gives it life.

Ankle Boots

Ankle boots seem such a staple of our winter wardrobe. While most of us concentrate on the basic colors of black or brown, it’s certainly fun to include colorful ones too.
Just like we recently blogged about cranberry colored shoes, a deep burgundy would be easy to style. Just think how these would work with black pants, brown pants or even jeans.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line on how to wear winter white incorporates a couple of ideas.

1- If you have trouble with white after Labor day, try the more subdued whites like ivory or a light grey. All of these lighten up the winter outfits nicely.
2– For the concern of getting white jeans dirty with the snow and slush, try white sweaters, jackets and cardigans instead.
3-With monochromatic looks make sure to add in texture with one of two of your items.
4-Don’t be afraid to mix white and ivory together. Remember, we wear different shades of blue together, so why not white?
