How to Wear Yellow Shoes with Other Colors

How to wear yellow shoes in the summer, is like having sunshine on your feet. Lesley showcased her yellow heels with a blue dress. While Charlotte is basically wearing the same color combination, it is a very different look. And then there’s my version.

Quote of the day: “Our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.” Unknown

Why did I choose this quote for the day? It reminded me that even though we have heard over and over about certain fashion rules throughout our life, it is up to us to figure out if they are really true. All of us recently broke some basic fashion rules and it can be eye opening to analyze the rules we thought were hard and fast.

When it comes to footwear, so many times we only buy those “basic” colors. Why? Because we think they are more versatile. Yet truthfully, you may actually wear “fun” shoes more often if you’re willing to embrace a bit of whimsy in your looks.
Showing your personality with your clothing choices is the best way to show that it’s NEVER too late to look great.

Charlotte is showing how her pair of yellow shoes is quite a different shade than Lesley’s heels. It goes to show that there is a wide range of shades for every color. As our summer clothing tends to be lighter and brighter, it’s not bad for our footwear to be that way too.
My mom started with a white column of color and styled a sheer, blue tunic over it. Then she added yellow peep toe flats along with yellow accessories to finish off the look.

Belts

Belts are one of those accessories that don’t get as much love once we get older. I hear many women comment that they don’t want to bring attention to this area of their body. While I understand that, don’t forget that too much volume only makes us look bigger.
And women of any size and body proportion CAN wear them. Lesley also wears them and she has a short torso.

Insider tip: If you’re concerned about the horizontal line that a belt creates, then a tied belt like this one is better. There is a vertical dimension to it that can draw your eyes downward.

Insider tip: Keep those self belts (that come with some dresses and jumpsuits) with your belts. You never know when they will work perfectly with another outfit.

Blue and Yellow Accessories

When you are adding in a different color with your footwear, it may seem more intentional to carry that color into your outfit with your accessories also. For Charlotte’s example, she accessorized with yellow earrings and a couple of yellow and white bracelets.

Insider tip: Remember you don’t have to match your purse to your footwear anymore.

Sheer Pieces

Sheer items are a great way to stay modest in the summer. You are still covered with sheer pieces yet they aren’t overly warm. My mom has a couple of tunics like this, and you saw her mint colored one worn over a blue top.

Insider tip: If you wear an open weave top over a cami of the same color, then it will look like a solid colored. If you want to showcase that it’s an open weave like Charlotte’s, make sure to wear a contrasting color under it.

Insider tip: Remember that many swim suit cover ups can be worn this way.

How to Wear Yellow Shoes

A pale pair of yellow shoes can go with our white pants and capris perfectly for the summer months. If you tend to like to match your shoes to your pants; however, the thought of white shoes reminds you of nurses too much, then this color is a great option.
A light yellow can almost be thought of as a ivory shade. Take a look at these shoes in the full body photos and you might have not realized they were yellow.

Insider tip: Just because you know an item is a certain color, doesn’t mean that everyone else sees it that way. Color can be SO subjective depending on lighting and our eyes. Remember the FB post I shared last month?

If you need other inspiration, you can see how my mom paired these same shoes with navy capris and yellow joggers.
