Retail Therapy with Joan Vass
Quote of the day: “Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.” Jim Rohn
I’m sure it’s no surprise that I love great clothes, yet budget is always on my radar. So let me tell you a story about Joan Vass clothing. The company reached out to me last year with the idea of working together. Yet when I looked over their online shopping site, I found their clothing to be out of the price range that I’d normally spend. I realize not all of you have those same restrictions, yet I figure I need to be authentic to my ways and means. You might be surprised at how many companies I’ve declined to work with because I feel their items are out of my usual price range.
So I asked the company if we could showcase items from their warehouse sale portion of the blog, and they said yes!! Most companies are not happy to showcase their sales products, so this was a great surprise. However, the reason it’s been almost a year is because Joan Vass was changing their reduced item section to be called the Retail Therapy. Both this retail therapy and sale section feature items that fall within my budget much better.
Joan Vass have a different sizing guide if you’re looking at their clothes so you’ll want to check out their size guide. You can see with this guide that they have petites and plus sizes. The only way I was able to find these pieces though was to use the search tab and type in either plus or petites. But it’s nice to know, they have quite a selection in both.
And I hope you enjoy checking out new or at least new to me clothing companies. It is always such a surprise how many different companies are out there for us women.

Why I Chose this Cardigan from Retail Therapy
I am such a huge color lover, that I was drawn to this orange and fuchsia cardigan. In fact, this color combination is one of my favorite spring mix of colors because it’s so bright and pretty. When I first received the sweater, I thought I’d pair it with white like Nancy did below.
But then I decided to get crazy. And I wanted to emulate my Lily Pulitzer top with more color instead of white. That’s why the lime green top got styled with it.
And I realize that many of you don’t appreciate distressed jeans. But let me give you a little reasoning of why I wore these today. Because to me, this kind of cardigan is a classic (maybe some of you might say frumpy) piece, so I wanted to add in something that would be the opposite.
Interesting Tidbit
Nancy and I laughed that we both wore print shoes. I found these kitten heels at Kohl’s a couple of years ago, and I even talked my good friend into getting a pair. I know kitten heels may not always be “in style” yet I think they are so practical because they give you height, but are still easy to wear.

Why Nancy Chose this Jacket from Retail Therapy
Nancy was excited to try out this color for a jacket. She has commented to me many times lately, that she’s been looking for more jackets to wear casually. And this one adds some brightness to the summer months. It’s quite lightweight and not fitted so it’s almost like a kimono in a more conservative variety.
The only thing she wasn’t loving was the pocket placement. You may not notice, but the pockets are pretty high up on the front panels. So it’s not like you would use them for your hands. Or to store things. They must just be for decoration.
The good thing is Nancy struggles with needing to have most sleeves shortened, so it was a nice surprise that these didn’t need to be. On the model on the website, they are even folded up to be bigger cuffs.
Interesting Tidbit
Nancy was saying as we were taking photos that she has worn these shoes more than she’d have ever thought. It makes me think that every woman needs a pair of floral shoes that are comfy. Can’t you see how this kind of print on a shoe is wonderful especially when you prefer to wear solids instead of prints for the rest of your outfit. Although I would add that print shoes can be an easy way to style some print mixing in your outfits.

Why Charlotte Chose this Dress from Retail Therapy
My mom liked this dress because it has an easy fit. Since blue is truly her favorite color, and this shade looks good with her complexion, then it’s one of those easy, peasy pieces. Just add shoes and you’re done. She was also happy that it has sleeves especially when we visit the air conditioned stores and restaurants.
Of course we know that my mom needs accessories too in order to finish off her outfits, so she added a belt and fun earrings. This particular belt almost looks like a scarf, yet the material is threaded through metal rings in the back, so it’s not overpowering.
Interesting Tidbit
Just look at my mom sporting statement earrings. Personally I love this trend for the summer months. There are just days that it’s too hot to think about a necklace, yet you might want some bling and color up by your face. And these statement earrings do the trick nicely.
Besides, sometimes I struggle with a necklace and belt in the same outfit. It can seem like too much at times. Not that you would call any of us a minimalist, but I love my mom’s outfit without a necklace.
Tips & Tricks
The idea behind the Retail Therapy section on Joan Vass’ site is about offering trendy styles at great prices. They have what they call simple headache free pricing that is organized by category of $59.99 for dresses & sweaters, $49.99 for cardigans, jackets & bottoms, $39.99 for tops & tunics, $24.99 for tanks and $19.99 for scarfs.
I know many women still aren’t comfortable with online shopping as much as going to the brick and mortar stores. But I will bring up the fact, that the online shopping can give us more variety so we aren’t always wearing the same pieces as our friends.
The only drawback to purchasing from the sale and Retail Therapy on Joan Vass is the pieces are final sales. You can’t return or exchange them. But to ease your mind, the sizing is as their size chart says and even have a little more leeway. My mom, the superior seamstress, will tell you that it’s better to have garments run big because it’s easier to alter them smaller than to try to alter them bigger.
