Styling a Yellow Sandals Outfit with a Blue Dress

I love the idea of styling a yellow sandals outfit for the summer. Yellow has become my favorite color over the years and I especially love pairing it with contrasting colors.

Quote of the day: “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” Marilyn Monroe

It may not seem natural to add a separate color to your outfit like this, yet then again, why not? For the theme of yellow shoes with our outfits, you can see how Lesley wore her signature colors, and Charlotte also used them as an accent color.
Since all three of us thought to wear blue with our yellow sandals without my prompting, maybe it’s something you will like also?

Dress: Peach c/o~~ Top: Bisou Bisou~~ Shoes: Unisa ~~Scarf: ~~ Earrings: Francescas ~~ Purse: no label

I feel like a combination of both Lesley and Charlotte in this outfit. Lesley also wore a blue dress although her scarf kimono had yellow in it. Whereas my mom wore a sheer tunic and used yellow accent items just like I did. It goes to show that we do influence each other, just like my friend, Kay, says in her videos.

Insider tip: This could be the perfect reason to put thought into our outfits daily. We can provide influence to our circle of friends.

Hand Me Downs

I am one of those strange people that LOVE hand me down clothing. I’m sure part of it is I was an only child, and so it wasn’t part of my upbringing. Except when my cousin would send me her things from California, and they were ALWAYS cooler than what I already had.
The reason hand me downs could be a fabulous idea is because they could be something you would have never considered for yourself. AND they are free!

Insider tip: Clothes swaps are a great way to exchange pieces with friends. Even if you aren’t all the same size. The idea is each person brings a certain number of items to the party including accessories. Everyone has fun looking at all the items and you leave with the same number of pieces!

This top was given to me from a friend. I think I only wore it once in Denver, however, it’s been getting a lot more love here in Arizona. Sure, I have to wear it over something else, but it’s such a wonderful lightweight piece.
And I bet, I could wear it as a scarf too just like I did with the blue top I took on our Caribbean cruise.

The Yellow Accessories

One way to make a pair of shoes feel more intentional when the clothing isn’t the same color is to incorporate that color in your accessories. Since I am styling yellow sandals, I added in a yellow scarf on my purse and yellow earrings.

Lesley has influenced me with tying scarves on my purses more and more. It’s the perfect way to “wear” your scarves when it’s hot outside.

Insider tip: This is a wonderful trick for traveling. Tying a different color scarf to a neutral bag gives it a different vibe for different outfits. Scarves are thin and easy to pack.

As for the earrings, I get compliments on these every time I wear them. My secret on finding fun earrings? Check the stores that you may not normally visit. These are from Francescas.

Insider tip: You are not too old for ANY store. If you feel uncomfortable in the “younger girls” store, just pretend you’re searching for something for your daughter or granddaughter.

Layering in Summer

You could say that the advantage of the hotter weather is the need NOT to layer. Yet, the nice aspect of layering is the opportunity to add interest to an outfit.
This blue dress is more of a halter style (you can see it better under the sheer top in our Caribbean cruise dinner outfit post.) and while I try not to worry about the bra straps showing, it’s nice to have a layering top for just that fact.

Ankle Strap Sandals

I’m a huge fan of ankle strap shoes in general. I find them much easier to walk in because my heels don’t pull out of the shoe. Yet I know they can be a pain to buckle. Why do they make that buckle SO small? LOL!
If you missed it, I came up with a way to make these kinds of sandals easier to put on and take off. The video or blog post both showcase how to add velcro to the strap instead.

These yellow sandals were an impulse buy at DSW after we moved to Arizona. I admit that I didn’t have as many sandals when we first moved here because Denver’s summers were a tad shorter.
And these were a fabulous buy because the ruffle makes them unique, dirt wipes off the suede easily, and they are a fun pop of color with most of my summer outfits.

Insider tip: Since the sandals don’t have the pillow insoles like Walking Cradles footwear does, I add my own. The Sheec cushion for the ball of your feet is something I wear with sandals now.
If you look closely you can see it under my left foot in the photo below, yet most people don’t notice it. (Use code JODIE for 15% off any Sheec socks)
