Wearing our Stripes Fashion for Fall
Stripes fashion isn’t only for one size of women. When I read my blogger friend’s words above in a recent post she wrote, I wanted to jump up and down for joy! Because the whole idea of trying to look taller or slimmer or leaner or anything other than what we are gets my goat some days.
Quote of the day: “I’m allowed to take up some space and I have more important things to focus on than the need to look smaller.” Julia from When the Girls Rule
So this post is a tribute to Julia’s words and I hope we can all take them to heart. You know I’m all about looking great, yet I truly don’t believe that looking great depends on our size or age. So let’s get past all those pre-historic rules (thanks Bev for the perfect way to phrase that).

And the funny thing is that all three of us had similar toppers in our closets already. So why not wear them all together?? So we look like triplets in different age groups. Is that a bad thing? I figured we matched our leather skirts recently, so why not other items.
What’s funnier than funny is how both my mom and Nancy wore similar color jeans with their striped toppers. Just call me the odd man out.

Why I Wore This Outfit
If you like print mixing then you probably already love stripes. For some reason, they are the item that most people pick to mix prints in their outfits. So I decided to double up on the stripes on my top half.
On top of that, I thought it’d be fun to add in my leopard booties and earrings. I figured since everyone says that leopard is a neutral, this would work perfectly.

How You Could Change This Outfit
If two sets of stripes are enough prints for you in one outfit, I understand. Instead, you could copy this outfit with black or navy booties instead.
Or how about adding in some color to the outfit with bright pink or red booties? Now that’s a way to make an outfit stand out.

Interesting Tidbit
These earrings are designed by a blogger and her daughter, Alison & Aubrey. I love this idea since I’m all about the mother/daughter angle. Besides they are a small business and to me that’s always a great venture to support. In addition, they have affordable options for trendy accessories. Make sure to check them out.

Why Nancy Wore This Outfit
Nancy liked the idea of keeping the jacket open with a different color under it to break up the stripes. It’s also the perfect way to show off the gorgeous pendant that she just bought at a holiday market.
This idea of matching the pants and top under the jacket creates a nice column of color from top to bottom. So if you still fight the urge to look slimmer in stripes, then this would be the perfect way to do it.

How You Could Change This Outfit
As another option for a column of color with this stripes fashion would be to use one of the colors in the jacket. Meaning you could wear a black top with black jeans, or a white top with white jeans. If you did one of these versions, it would still be fun to wear the burgundy booties.

Interesting Tidbit
I love that Nancy is mixing prints by adding in a floral purse for this outfit. We’ve talked about mixing prints many times on the blog, and adding in the extra print in your purse is one of the easy ways to do it. The purse is also a great way to add in some florals to the winter like we discussed last week.

Now here’s another way to wear stripes and maybe not feel as wide? Find a topper where the stripes are horizontal and vertical. Let me just reiterate that it’s not bad to look wide, but I know I won’t convince many of you in only one post.
My mom wanted comfortable shoes because we were heading to the mall after these photos. That’s where these shoes come in, and so she chose red jeans to match them.

How You Could Change This Outfit
I like how my mom added in the grey as her turtleneck since that color is in the sweater too. Otherwise you might feel that the red, white and blue vibe is taking over.
If you wanted to think about print mixing under a cardigan like this, you could find a print turtleneck instead of more stripes like I did.

Interesting Tidbit
I think it’s humorous that not only did my mom and Nancy both wear red jeans, but they both added in a print purse to the mix. Maybe it’s true that we start thinking alike when we hang around each other so much, LOL!
I found this purse at a local consignment shop when it was going out of business recently. This is the one I bought for mom, and then I bought a Dooney & Bourke one for Nancy. Since I don’t pay them to be on the blog, the least I can do is shower them with great gifts.

Tips & Tricks
I hope not a single one of you shies away from stripes fashion after reading this post. Because each and every one of you can look fabulous in them no matter what size the tag says.
And if you’re still not sure, then use my trick when I have a bad hair day by creating the focal point elsewhere. You can do this by print mixing, a punch of color with your purse, or even a lovely, statement necklace.
