Easy Column Dressing with Winter White and Other Colors
Column dressing is one of those ideas that many stylists talk about as an easy way to elongate a look. It also works great to create a focal point with your jacket or accessory like Lesley is showing.
Quote of the day: “You may have a fresh start any moment you chose, for this thing that we call “failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down.” Mary Pickford
Thinking about column dressing, it’s the same idea when you wear a dress like I showcased for this theme of winter white. But Lesley has to admit that wearing white this time of year is HARD for a die hard fashion rule follower.
In fact, Lesley admits “White doesn’t exist after Labor day much less in November and December. However adding in blue (which is another holiday color) makes it easier to stomach.”
Make sure to see how Charlotte wore her winter white too.

Most people (us included until we moved here) don’t realize that it gets cold in Arizona in the winter. Therefore, Lesley chose a heavier weight white jeans and turtleneck to layer under the jacket.
Many of us concentrate on red and green for holiday colors, but Lesley’s favorite color is blue. You would realize this the minute you stepped into her house so why would the holidays change that? So it should be no surprise that at Christmas, she decorates with blue and white.
Which is the long story of why she chose this blue jacket to wear with her winter white column dressing outfit.

Accessory Focus
Of course you could wear the outfit without a scarf, to keep the vertical line of white intact. Yet, the three of us have this belief that accessories just add that “interest” to any outfit. I think once you get into the habit of using your accessories, then it’s hard to feel dressed without them.
Lesley found a scarf in her collection that has that same color blue, but also red in it. This makes it fun then to add in the red shoes for a pop of color.
As for how she tied her scarf? This is the lady bib as she described it in our scarf post (it’s #13 in the post linked below)

Purse Selection
I’ve had a question about choosing a purse for an outfit. Funny story is when I first started blogging, I didn’t even consider purses as part of an outfit. That’s because when I had been working you placed your purse under your desk and never thought about it again.
Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming series next year about different options of purses with our looks. Lesley is showing how she is using her purse to blend in with the rest of the outfit. It’s not a match to the shoes or an exact match to the color of the jacket, yet it coordinates nicely.

White Jeans
White jeans are my favorite for the winter months. I think so many of the winter items sold are so dark and muted. And during the months when we don’t have as much daylight, it seems like we should dress in lighter clothing to counteract that fact.
Don’t disregard your cropped or lighter weight white pants during this season. I think the cropped versions are a perfect way to show off your taller boots!!
As for the lightweight pants, you can always layer cuddle duds or hosiery under them.

Red Shoes
Any kind of red shoes can really give an outfit a boost. While you may not consider red footwear a basic, they certainly should be part of your shoe collection. Just think, I doubt you’d be called frumpy wearing some fabulous red shoes!!

Tips for Column Dressing
1-Wearing a solid color dress or jumpsuit is usually the easiest way to create a column of color.
2-If you are wearing separates the top and bottom do not have to match exactly.
3-Many times the color column does not have to be a flattering color to your face unless you are wearing a turtleneck.
4-Make sure the pieces fit well especially if you are layering over them. They don’t have to be skin tight, yet you don’t want to be swimming in it either.
