Promising Holiday Attire Ideas That Are Casual Yet Polished

Just because our holiday attire this year may be casual, doesn’t mean it can’t be polished and chic. In fact, the best way to make us feel better about ourselves is putting some intention into how we look.

Quote of the day: “Sometimes you can’t see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eye of others.” Ellen Degeneres

And we all know that holiday attire seems the perfect time to pull out the red items. Lesley kept it casual with a statement jacket, while I even wore denim. Yet the details are what stand out for each of these looks.
Charlotte not only wore red but threw in some green for an overall holiday attire that checks all the boxes.

In a way, both Charlotte and Lesley interpret the casual holiday attire quite similarly. Black pants with red in the top half. In fact, this is the recipe I see for many women during this time. Which is why we showcased a red sweater theme last year.

Details

That’s where the details can make your basic outfit be more “you.” A hat like this isn’t something you see on every woman around. Yet, at this stage in our lives, it’s wonderful to be unique in our style and not look like every Tom, Dick and Harry (or would that be Toni, Doris and Heather?)
In fact, the advantage of a hat like this (it’s felted and shaped) is that it doesn’t crush your hair quite as much as a beanie. My mom won’t agree with that statement, but I bet if we did a side by side test, you’d agree.

The other fun detail is the earrings. These are the furry ones that I was wearing in my casual holiday attire outfit too (and they come in a multitude of colors too). I can’t tell you how many compliments we get on these inexpensive earrings. Sure we basically only wear them 1-2 months out of the year, but hey, that’s no different than a turtleneck like my mom is wearing.

Different Shades of Red

You can see in my mom’s holiday attire that her scarf, purse and jacket are all different shades of red. In fact, you might call the purse burgundy. Wearing burgundy and red together is something I’ve heard women talk about…in a negative way. Yet I don’t think it’s any different than red and pink together. Or different shades of blue.
So what I hope the takeaway is that we should stop obsessing over the “perfect” color of this to match something. Let’s include all different shades of a color if that’s what we have in our closet.

Scarf

My mom probably has as many scarves as Lesley, and I have finally learned to consider them magical. Just like for Lesley with the embroidery on the back of her kimono, my mom is creating some interest for the rear view.

Insider tip: Just as many people see you from the back as the front. So make sure to give them something fun to look at.

This scarf is a large square, which you then fold in half diagonally, and tie in the front. It’s very easy to do, and yet creates a beautiful result. AND it’s warm. Plus if you need to sit down on a bench, you can use it as a blanket too (see what I mean how scarves are so magical…so many things it can do)

Turtlenecks

Turtlenecks are one of those pieces that are a must have when you live in the colder areas. Yet these cutesy holiday ones remind me of the 80’s and 90’s. Then again the Ugly Christmas sweaters are back in style too, so if you kept these turtlenecks, you could be in style again soon!!
