Instructive Ideas of Outfits for Weight Gain in the Midsection

The idea of outfits for weight gain is a suggestion from Doreen who admits that since she has gained weight, she has lost her way with style. It can be hard to basically “learn” how to style our bodies once they change. Yet one of the things I try to do is to change the focus.

Quote of the day: “We should regret our mistakes and learn form them, but never carry them forward into the future with us.” Lucy Maud Montgomery

Lesley has described her body shape as one that resembles a zucchini and so she wanted to discuss shifting the focus from her belly and hips. While she is showcasing 2 different outfits for weight gain in this area, the concept is basically the same. Shift the focus from the midsection upward!!!

While I hope you like this fun way to change the focus in our outfits, I still would like to point out that we should LOVE our bodies no matter what. I believe it helps our self esteem to look the best we can, yet embracing the idea of perfectly imperfect has been quite freeing for me! (I did write a blog post about perfectly imperfect. It’s been one of my most shared posts)

Outfit 1 to Shift Focus

Column of color in navy

Pants: Chicos~~ Cardigan: Cyrus-Marshalls ~~ Top: Chicos~~ Shoes: Nine West-thrifted ~~ Scarf: ~~ Purse: no label

In Lesley’s words: “Being the ‘Queen of scarves’, it was a given that I would add a scarf to draw attention up to my face and away from my less wonderful area. I use this trick many times on the blog and in real life.
Today I tied the scarf in a “tie” knot right at the collar top and let the long ends flow down the front to flutter over the belly.

I popped the collar (which is another good way to frame the face and bring attention to the top half of my body). The idea behind wearing a long open cardigan is that it skims over the hips and tush area that are not my best feature. (I will leave out what she said about her tush, LOL)
This look works with a casual jean outfit and a dressier skirt too.

The purse accents the outfit without drawing too much attention to the bottom half. I tried to keep the purse small to mid sized as it often hits at the hip area. Sometimes a bigger purse can add visual weight to an area”.

For Lesley’s next outfit, she commented: “Another great trick I like is to use a column of color with a long kimono or cardigan over it. There are many colors that would work, and I used navy here.
The silvery kimono floats over the problem areas and you concentrate on the accessories.

The accessories play in with layering of necklaces by choosing a multi piece shorter one to draw the eye up and then a multi strand that is longer to elongate the torso and accent the column effect.

My purse is another silver tone and the snake print adds interest. The navy pashmina is tied around the purse handle as an extra layer if it gets chilly.”

I would like to point out that even though Lesley doesn’t like the “tush” photos, having the scarf on the purse is a great way to shift the focus. It grabs your attention so you don’t really notice her tush!!
