July Love it or Leave it
Since I’ve been retired and blogging, I’ve had the chance to check out and use many different products. I know when I was working, I wanted what was tried and true. I didn’t have the time to experiment with these items. But now that I have the extra time, I thought I’d share with you on occasion what products that I’ve termed love it or leave it. (Yes, I do watch that HGTV show, Love it or List it).
Granted, I realize that everyone looks for distinct properties in everything they purchase. So not only will I give you my rating on the product, but I’ll tell you the whys behind it. With my scientific background as a retired dentist, I am intrigued by what makes a product work. Or maybe why it doesn’t.
I’ll let you know how I obtained these products, because I think that’s an important part of it. Each item is linked in the title if you’re interested. And I tried to keep it short. If you have any questions about how I used it, or anything else, feel free to either comment or email me. I’m always 100% honest.
1. Thai-Go
So this product has a long story behind it. About 12 years ago I had this red blob pop up on my eyeball. It didn’t hurt and it didn’t affect my sight. But it certainly looked bad. I went to the eye doctor (both optometrist and ophthalmologist) and used steroid drops for months. When that didn’t help I tried some other approaches like acupuncture and homeopathy. Both were unsuccessful. Then I tried an iridologist who suggested this thai-go drink as an antioxidant. Imagine my surprise when my red blob cleared up. In fact, I could tell a difference when we would go on trips and not take this product. My eye would start to get red again. It’s the strangest thing, and no one has a reason for it.
Yet we continue to take this most mornings as a shot with our breakfast. I can go without it now and my eye doesn’t get red, yet I feel like it’s doing something to help my body. And trust me. It’s not inexpensive. But we rationalize that our health is priceless. One bottle lasts a little over 2 weeks with both of us taking it every morning. Nature’s Sunshine and Puritans Pride are our go-to companies for supplements if you were wondering due to their quality products.
Verdict: Love it
2. Redmond Bentonite Clay
I received this sample of benntonite clay at the Everything Food Conference. I was interested to try this face mask because I’ve heard it can reduce the size of pores on your face. Not that my pores are very large, but I do have one on the side of my nose that is bigger from picking a zit there in the past.
I used this once a week for a month, and it doesn’t float my boat for a couple of reasons. One, it’s super messy. Two, I feel like it dries out my skin which is the exact opposite of what I need. And three, it didn’t make my big pore much smaller. Maybe a tiny bit, but it’s not worth it in my book.
Verdict: Leave it
3. L’Oreal Blur Blush
Of course I love this because now it’s hard to find. Not that I need to be loyal to this brand and this exact product. But I do think that the cream blushes are better on my dry skin. This one especially seems to blend in better instead of just sitting on top of my skin like the powder blushes.
So now I’ll have to try some other brands of cream blushes that don’t break the bank to see if I like them as well. I may try the Revlon one or the No7 one. If anyone has suggestions, I’m all ears.
Verdict: Love it
4. Global Beauty Care Retinol Under Eye Pads
I had a friend suggest reviewing the under eye pads. She had tried a super expensive brand but didn’t like them. So I went to the other extreme. I found these at Bed, Bath & Beyond and they were certainly inexpensive.
I used this product under my right eye only once a week for a month to see if I could tell a difference. And could I? Nope, nadda, not a thing. FYI, my friend tried another brand from Kohls and said she noticed some of the fine lines filled in temporarily. I think personally, I’d rather go ahead and use the full sheet masks if I’m going to spend the time doing this. I especially loved the Saranghae ones. The Sarangae masks are just under $10 each which isn’t the most expensive I’ve seen but not the least expensive either. And I didn’t love the Neutrogena one that was less than half that cost so either I pay the money or find a different one.
I’d love to hear if you have a face sheet mask that is your favorite?
Verdict: Leave it
5. Nexxus Humectress Mist
I purchased 2 of these after trying it for some reason last year. That may give away the answer of if I loved it or not right off the bat. This is a mist I use to add some curl to my hair when it’s gone a little flat.
Now you may be surprised to read that because I have naturally curly hair. And most of the time I’m trying to straighten it. But there are those occasions when I like it somewhat curly. Especially the back portion so it don’t look as thin . And even though it’s easier and cheaper to just use plain water, that doesn’t seem to work as well especially after I have used a curling iron or straightener. So I purchased this and absolutely love it.
FYI, you may realize that Nexxus isn’t the least expensive beauty product around. In fact, you would pay a lot more for this from Ulta. Which is why I ordered two of these from Jet. If you’ve never ordered from Jet before, I was extremely impressed how each item (I actually ordered many items to get the free shipping) was wrapped and packaged so it arrived safely.
Verdict: Love it
I hope you liked this run down of make up and beauty products. I have many more products to talk about, but if you have a specific concern, I’d love to know about it.
And feel free to check out the previous Love it or Leave it posts where I talk about different products from June or May.
