Styling After Gym Clothes to Run Errands
The idea of after gym clothes is not a new one for this blog. For some reason, I’m not entirely comfortable running errands in my workout gear. Maybe it’s because I watched too many “What Not to Wear” episodes? At any rate, I figure, it’s not that hard to throw on items over your gym look to make a stylish outfit.
Quote of the day: “Talk doesn’t cook rice.” Chinese Proverb
And if the quote above doesn’t make you giggle, I don’t know what will. We can talk about an idea over and over, but if you don’t try it, what is the good of that?
Like figuring out what to put on after the gym to look nice without going home first. So the three of us, came up with some options.
We tried this concept last winter. I almost think it’s easier in the winter because you can layer more. Yet, I wanted to challenge ourselves for the warmer months too. Here’s mom covering her leggings with a maxi skirt. Then Nancy covered her top portion, while I tried to cover everything. But I also found many other options that would work.

What to Think about for your After Gym Clothes
My mom works out at home, so this isn’t entirely realistic for her real life. But then again, this might be useful if she has to go out real quick after working out. Maybe instead of changing her entire outfit after her session, she can use this idea.
Let’s start with my mom’s workout outfit. Of course it’s matchy, because even though she works out at home, she likes to be stylish. More about her workout history below.
While I know many women run to the stores in their leggings and athleisure outfits, you would never see my mom do that. And let’s just say the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Maxi Skirt
I think a maxi skirt is an easy way to cover up your leggings. With most maxis you wouldn’t even know there are leggings under there. And if you are really sweaty, you could pull the leggings off and just wear the skirt.
My mom made this maxi skirt and even Nancy and I got pieces from the leftover material.

White Sneakers
My mom’s regular workout shoes are black, but with the summer coming and moving to AZ, she thought she should buy some white ones too.
White sneakers are being showcased by many bloggers right now. Even these kinds of workout sneakers. And the advantage of a maxi skirt, is if you don’t love showing off your athletic sneakers, they are basically hidden by the skirt.

Purse
My mom has been getting a lot of use out of this teal green purse. It’s a great example of how a totally different colored purse can be a punch of color with your outfit.
Don’t worry that the purse doesn’t match. It doesn’t have to. It’s a nod to a fun color instead.

T-Shirt
Graphic t-shirts have been more and more popular lately. So heck, it would totally be appropriate to wear it to work out, and then have it be part of your after gym clothes outfit.
Even in the past we wore our graphic t-shirts with fancy skirts. I remember that Nancy and mom didn’t love this idea at the time. Yet it’s a fun dichotomy of style. Along with the fact, it’s a great way to make your post workout look be stylish.

Mom’s History of Fitness
My mom said she didn’t seriously start working out until she retired. And she didn’t love the idea of going to a gym. She rather work out in her own home so she can do it at her convenience.
She started by finding a Leslie Sanson’s walking tape. Since then she has been through two other of Leslie’s tapes and is now using the Mega Miles video that takes an hour and a half. She does this tape 3 times a week without fail.
