Styling Spring Fashion with Crochet

Spring fashion is always one I look forward to because it’s nice to pull out the lightweight pieces that have been ignored all throughout the winter months.

Quote of the day: “You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.” Michael Jordan

I was so glad to see the crochet detail listed among the spring fashion trends. Sure, you may think of it from the hippy days in the 1970’s but I think now it works nicely as a lightweight cover.
All three of us wore a different kind of crochet item for this theme. Charlotte has a top with the detail as a trim, and Lesley got creative with a kimono.

As for my outfit, I pulled out a much loved cardigan along with a pair of sandals that you might consider crochet too.

Spring Fashion with Crochet

I’ve had this cardigan for over 8 years and maybe more. It was one that I wore when I was working as my “jacket” in the summertime. I used to wear it over colorful, silky tank tops with my work trousers.
I knew I wanted to wear this cardigan for this week’s look, but I couldn’t decide with which dress to wear it. So I took a vote on my Instagram stories. And this was the winner. The other contenders I’ve worn before on Instagram and can show you them here and here. Which one would you have chosen?

Insider tip: If you want to know more about Instagram Stories, I wrote a post for the technologically challenged. It may seem like a lot of information at first, but just do a little every day. And it’s like anything…the more you do it, the easier it becomes.

When the Color is from the Accessories

I consider this dress somewhat colorful up close; however, you can see how from a distance it really appears a light pink and very muted. Then with the cream colored cardigan, I felt like it needed some color.

That’s why I added in the mint colored necklace. I’ve gotten out of the habit of wearing some of my wonderful necklaces since I’ve been experimenting with scarves. I just need to wear them both at once now.
I also pulled out my Birdsong Design bracelet because I figured I need the healing properties of the gemstones right now. You can still get 30% off your order from Birdsong with the code JTOS30.

If I had a mint colored purse, I might have grabbed that, but instead I chose this colorful straw purse. Since spring and summer is the time for bright colors, why not have some fun colors and a straw purse? Or at least a cute pattern like those below.

The other trick I used for my accessories is wearing two separate earrings in each ear. Granted I can’t do this with all of my earrings, but I can with these two pair of pearl ones so they show up better. The only disadvantage is I can’t use a back on them.

Spring Fashion and Dresses

Does anyone else appreciate dresses especially in the summer? Even though life is more casual now, they really are much cooler in the hot weather. And trust me, it was over a hundred degrees here last summer when we first moved to Arizona, so I should know!
At least with most dresses, it’s one and done. Unless of course you’re wearing a topper of some kind. In the real summer, I take my jacket with me for the inside of the stores. I can’t wait for those days again that we can go willy nilly to the stores to shop.

Do My Pale Legs Blind You?

Last year I shared my struggles with tanning and embracing my pale legs. Sure, deep down, there are times that I still wish that my skin was a darker color. Yet for the most part I have grown to accept that this is it. It saves me tons of time and money as opposed to tanning for real or even with lotion.

Therefore, you won’t hear me apologizing for my pale legs. And I only hope that I can inspire others to love themselves as they are.
Pretty soon, my varicose veins will show more too (they are starting to be seen in spots).
Because of that I wanted to re share one of my favorite stories from Reader’s Digest below.

“When my granddaughter, Bethany was 4 years old, she visited my home for a few days. I gave her some crayons and pictures for coloring. When I looked down, I saw she had used a crayon to draw purple marks all over her legs. “Bethany, what are you doing?” I asked. “Why, Grandma, ” she said, “you have such pretty purple lines up and down your legs, and I wanted mine to look just like yours.” Since then, I’ve worn my varicose veins with pride, and they get prettier each year.””

Comfortable heels

Spring Sandals

While I realize many of you don’t wear heels like this anymore, this same style exists in a lower version too. This is the Kendra and the lower version is the Avery. I wore the Averys on my Caribbean cruise and you might recognize them from many of my excursion outfits and even my dinner looks.

The reason I wore them on my cruise?? Because they are Walking Cradles shoes, of course. I only took Walking Cradles footwear when I packed because they are that comfortable.
I was so excited when they brought out these higher heels for the summer. It’s amazing how they may look high, but because of the platform and the pillows in the soles, they don’t feel it.

Both versions of the crochet sandal come in black and the Avery also comes in camel. The shoes below are also Walking Cradles and if you purchase a pair, make sure to use the code JODIE15 for 15% off.

Insider tip: If you need extra cushion under the ball of your foot, I’d recommend the Sheec Sockshion. I wore them on Easter with a different pair of sandals (you might have seen it on my IG stories). I’ll be posting more about the brand soon, but these are fabulous. And the socks? They really do stay in place. Use my code JODIE for 15% off.
