Unique Long Vest Outfit Ideas-Worn over a Jacket

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

The idea of this type of layering is incredibly unique and fun. We are showcasing long vest outfit ideas with the vest worn OVER your jacket. I bet you didn’t think of that before.
We first styled a short vest over a jacket, and now we will pull out a long vest.

Quote of the day: “Attitudes are contagious. Make yours worth catching.” Anonymous.

The day that we took these photos, we were attending a local fashion show that featured Brooks Luby. Brooks is the designer that I showcased with her sheer tunics this October. I figured that wearing an interesting layering concept would be perfect for such an event.

I have come to believe that long vest outfit ideas are a perfect way to keep off the chill yet add that personality to any look. The idea of a topper is something all stylists talk about because it’s the perfect way to have a focal point.

However, I used to think vests weren’t that warm because your arms weren’t covered. That’s why this concept for long vest outfit ideas of layering the vest over a jacket is brilliant.

If you struggle with how to style vests, I have other ideas on my site

I really wanted to wear the velvet dress that I had recently purchased when we had our blogger fun in Seattle. The dress would be a perfect foundation since it’s sleeveless and needs some kind of layers anyway.

In fact, you can see other ways I’ve layered this exact same dress for the cooler months.

The black leather bow portion near the neck is part of the dress; therefore, I figured a black blazer would work. But then, of course, I had to spice it up with my bright yellow, sleeveless trench. I styled this “trench” on the blog last fall season.

In the up-close photo, you can not only see my earrings but also the clip I attached to the leather bow. I absolutely love these earrings that I ended up buying after trying them in my Rocksbox set.

But I want to know if you can guess what the round clip is. I will give the answer later in the article if you want to know. I thought the black bow needed some bling to pull in the silver from my earrings and tips of my booties.

Speaking of bling, check out my ring.

It was a wonderful present from one of my friends I’ve met through Instagram. Michele is also the women who I co-host with on the #thriftedchicstylechallenge on Instagram. I also featured her when we had our Bridging the Gap campaign since she doesn’t have a blog herself. She was so generous to send me this ring and I love it.

I hadn’t worn rings much until recently, but they are a fun way to add some bling to an outfit. Especially in the winter when it seems silly to wear bracelets because you can’t see them with long-sleeved items. And even though they can be big and fun, they don’t have to be expensive.

And no, I don’t have bare legs here. I’m wearing a pair of nude fishnets that I’ve had for over 5 years. I talked about my fishnets in an Instagram post recently, because I’m a huge fan. In case, you don’t want to read the IG post, one of my secrets is to layer them over another nude pair of hose for extra warmth.

So that round clip is actually a slip holder. I do have two of them that my mom had given me in the past.  I didn’t remember what they were really for and I figured they were just scarf clips. My mom got a good laugh at how I wore it here.

Nancy’s Outfit with a Faux Fur Long Vest

Pants: Chicos~~Vest: no label~~Jacket: H&M ~~Top: ColdWater Creek ~~Boots: Impo -DSW~~Earrings:

Nancy grabbed the faux fur vest that she bought a couple of years ago for this layering challenge.
The faux fur vests are such a perfect winter item, and I love that they are still considered stylish. Nancy has worn this one many times on the blog including in the faux fur series from almost 2 years ago.

Insider tip: I find the best faux fur vests and jackets at thrift stores. Just make sure to look it over because they can be a tad ratty after many wears.

We ended up choosing a relatively simple top under the vest and jacket. You can see in the photo below that the top has some beaded embellishments on it. It reminds me of the crisscross varieties that are in the retail store right now.

Because of this embellishment, we didn’t add a necklace or more bling around her neck. In fact, she kept the earrings simple by choosing a gold hoop.

The leopard booties could actually be considered the star of the show.

Unless you’ve been under a rock lately, then I’m sure you realize how popular the leopard print is right now. From shoes to hats and everything in between, this print is now considered neutral. Nancy got these booties over 2 years ago for a whopping $15. She’s worn them quite a bit, and they were her footwear of choice for our leopard shoes series.

I didn’t mean to leave out the information about the jacket that Nancy is layering her vest on top. It’s a utility jacket with faux leather sleeves.

But the utility jackets are one of those great pieces that are casual, yet stylish. I talked about them in my Fall Trends post, and they have been everywhere since the cold weather hit. They come in many different varieties like olive green, tan, and even denim versions.

Charlotte’s in Browns with a Long Vest Outfit Idea

You can call my mom a layering fool with this long vest outfit ideas look.

Skirt: Dana Buchman ~~Vest: Evan Picone~~Jacket: Koret ~~Top: Gianna ~~Boots: ~~Purse: Camel skin from Egypt

Not only is she layering a long vest over a blazer, but she even has a sweater vest over top of a bow tie blouse. I absolutely love how these two pieces marry this way. In fact, it almost looks like it was made that way.

So just think of this as a great way to pull out a white blazer and make it feel more winter-ready. Heck, this may be the time to get a white or ivory blazer, since most of the time they are worn in the warmer months.

The entire outfit is a mixture of browns and whites which work so well together. But if you aren’t a fan of this color combination, you could start the look with another print bow tie blouse. Then a solid skirt and jacket with either would complete the look.

Let’s talk about my mom’s purse.

This is one of those items that I would consider a souvenir. It’s made from camel skin and was purchased when my mom visited Egypt. Talk about unique and interesting, right?

Now I’ll be the first to admit that I never thought of my purse as part of my outfit before blogging. I mean, who has the time and energy to make sure that there’s another item that goes with everything else? But I think once you really start looking at the whole picture, it is fun to see how the purse can change up the outfit.

And since the top portion of the outfit is quite the focus, I think a solid-colored sweater skirt is perfect for the bottom half. Along with the fact that the boots basically match the skirt.
