One Dress, Different Ways to Wear It Depending on the Occasion
Styling one dress, different ways depending on the occasion makes sense. With this idea you create a much bigger wardrobe. Even though a dress is thought of as a dressy item, I’m showing 5 different ways to wear this one floral dress. And more about the dress at the bottom of the post.
Quote of the day: “Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” Mary Kay Ash
While most of us concentrate on the fact that this is a dress, there are other factors that fit into the equation of an outfit. However, in listing these factors, I would also say not to get too caught up in one detail or another.
1-Material: Most of us consider cotton more casual and shiny material more dressy. That being said, remember you probably are more aware of the material than everyone else.
2-Layering: Adding a jacket, kimono, blazer or belt can change the vibe.
3-Footwear: I’m a firm believer that shoes can make or break an outfit. Yet we don’t have to give up comfort in this day and age.
4-Accessories: Most of us agree that details can make a difference. That’s exactly why accessories can be used to give different looks to one dress.

One Dress, Different Ways to wear for Casual
Hanging around the house may not be the time you think about dresses. Yet the house dresses of the olden days were exactly what my grandmother always wore. A dress like this is easy and breezy and makes hanging out at home look good.
I added in sandals that are basically like slippers and my cap to hide my messy hair. If I had to run a quick errand, my pink purse would be the perfect addition.
Details about the Outfit
These pink earrings I’ve worn many times before. They are Pam Neri creations, and yes, I would wear them on at home days because they are SO lightweight.
The sandals are the “Lynn” by Walking Cradles. These are the 2-inch version, or you can find the “Keely” that is only 1 inch. Both are comfortable slide sandals and come in a variety of colors.

Wearing the Dress for Errands
Going out to run errands doesn’t mean you have to be in jeans. In this heat, getting in and out of the car multiple times makes wearing a cooler dress mandatory.
Because of all of the walking, I chose my sneakers and made sure that I had a jacket for the air conditioned stores.
Insider tip: I keep a jacket in each car in case I forget to take one with me.
Details about the Outfit
Since we were going to be walking a lot, I wore my Yes We Vibe sneakers.
For my accessories, I grabbed another pair of Pam Neri earrings. I like the statement earrings in the summer when it’s too hot for a necklace. The blue purse was chosen because it’s big enough to hold everything I need for a day of errands.

A Dress for Lunch
Going out to lunch seems more casual than dinner, yet it’s still nice to look good. If I’m going to lunch anywhere, I try to remember to take some covering, so I grabbed this kimono.
Again, comfy shoes (in case we go shopping after lunch) and fun earrings.
Insider tip: Kimonos can be styled many ways to create a better fit if you don’t love them big and flowy. I wrote a post about it here and a video with even more options here.
Details about the Outfit
My mother, Charlotte made this kimono from a scarf. I tied the front panels in a knot to keep it in place.
These sandals are Walking Cradles, the Averys. I wore these on our Caribbean cruise on excursions AND for dinner. They are that comfortable.
I bought the earrings when Charming Charlies was going out of business. Did you know they are selling again online only??

Date Night with One Dress, Different Ways
Date night is the perfect opportunity to grab that dress and feel a little fancy. I pulled out the heels, put on a belt and put the focus on my face with colorful earrings.
Of course a pashmina was added since the restaurants tend to be cold.
Details about the Outfit
I styled my pashmina exactly how I’ve seen Lesley style hers before. Usually I feel like I need to knot my scarf or do something special with it, yet throwing it over your shoulder can be even better.
Insider tip: If you want the pashmina to stay in place, style it under you belt. I showcased this as one way to minimize a large chest.
These earrings are leather and so are light as a feather. They are made by one of the women in my Forever Fierce FB group, and she has a website if you’re interested.
I kept the accessories all blue so my “date” would be more apt to focus on my titillating conversation.

Floral for the Office
Even a casual dress can many times be made office appropriate. That’s the magic of adding a blazer and pumps. This could even be one of those work to dinner outfits!
My purse is smaller so if I were really working, I could throw it in my briefcase, and this time I opted for green earrings.
Details about the Outfit
These navy pumps are also Walking Cradles. If you are ever looking for heels that you can wear all day, WC is the way to go. This style is the Marley, but I also have the Samantha, and the tiny pillows are the difference between other brands. I wore these 5 different ways with jeans to dresses.
The blazer is from years ago from one of those sites you aren’t sure the quality would be good called BooHoo. I didn’t wear the blazer much in Denver, because it’s lightweight, but now I wear it a ton. Because I know that white tends to get dingy easier, I’d rather not spend a ton of money on a white jacket. However, I might try dying this in the future because I love the cut.

This Dress
Thanks to my mom for making this dress for me many years ago before I was blogging. I’d consider it a fit and flare dress which is quite flattering on most of us.
I have to admit that it’s not a dress that has gotten a ton of wear in my closet. Why? Good question.
There’s a reason I told you my mom made this for me before blogging. At that time, I was still stuck in the idea of a dress was for a fancy occasion. Along with the fact, that it seemed a tad short for me.
Fast forward to my blogging journey where I have discovered that you can style one dress, different ways to wear it for unique occasions. And the shortness? Well, I’ve decided to embrace my body and I’m showing off my legs with pride.
Insider tip: Analyze why you don’t wear an item in your closet. When you figure out the why, then you can find ways to make it work. OR better yet, ask a friend for help. Just like the time each of us styled each other and came up with outfits we never would have put together ourselves.
