Styling a Casual Chic Outfit from a Lounge Outfit
During this time of hanging out at home, it’s easy not to wear a casual chic outfit. Yet, it’s also not all that hard to take your lounge look and add a couple of details to make it ready if you have to run to the store or jump on a call.
Quote of the day: “Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” Ruth Bader Ginsburg
This theme to upgrade your lounge wear look to make it appropriate for errands is a combination of a reader request along with how life is right now. Even if you think you are staying at home for the day, there can always be some surprise that crops up to push you out of the house.
None of us want to completely change our clothes if we don’t need to, so here are some tips of what you can do to go out in a casual chic outfit.
Charlotte also incorporated this idea with color, and Jodie with a moto jacket with her joggers.

Before and After
When Lesley hangs around the house, she usually wears jeans or leggings. Leggings are her default for casual at home because they are non binding and soft. These Go2 compression leggings have been her favorite because of their pockets. One pocket holds her phone so it’s with her everywhere she goes around the house, and the other is for lip balm and a tissue. You can see this isn’t her first time wearing them as part of a casual chic outfit.
Insider tip: You can still get 25% off a pair of these leggings (or any full priced items on Go2 site) with the code JODIE25.
Then she often wears a men’s white shirt because they are the perfect length with leggings. Even at home she tries to wear interesting earrings so she doesn’t feel naked when she looks in a mirror.
Her inside the house shoe of choice is flip flops but not just any flip flops. These have arch support and stay on well. I linked to a couple of others that also would work below.

Casual Chic Outfit
Since Lesley had on a great base layer as part of her lounging outfit, she just switched out her shoes, grabbed a scarf and put on a hat.

Are the Extras Important?
While you may think that adding a scarf would be too much work, I always think Lesley incorporates the idea of showcasing how to just “throw on” a scarf so easily and beautifully. I think the most common response I get from women is that they don’t know how to style scarves.
How can you make a scarf work for you? Practice, practice, practice. It’s like anything. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
In fact, I linked to a couple of colorful scarves at the end of the post. If you don’t already have one like those, this is the time to work on incorporating them into your wardrobe. What do you have to lose?
Insider tip: There is nothing hard about folding a square scarf in half, and then tying a knot with the ends. Lesley positioned the knot on the side to add an asymmetrical design to the overall look.
The Perfect Purse
Of course if you’re in a hurry and running out the door, you will probably be grabbing your purse at hand. This black Maruca bag is one Lesley keeps ready to go all the time. She loves that it can carry a bottle of water in it, and has a long strap to wear as a cross body style.
Yet you can see that she even grabbed a Pashmina (you can get them very inexpensively here) to tie onto the purse for this casual chic outfit. This does two things. One it adds a little more color to the look, but also it can be used for another layer if it’s cold.

Adding a Hat
Adding a hat is a good trick for a couple of reasons. If you don’t have time to mess with your hair, a hat covers a world of issues. It also puts the focal point at your head, so if you don’t want people noticing that you ran out in leggings, this will help.
Insider tip: If you don’t want to carry a scarf, feel free to add it to your hat, like Lesley has done in the past. This can work for almost all size scarves.

Shoes
Shoes are also an important part of any outfit. If you need to run a short errand, you might not need to worry about support and comfort. I feel like we should all have a fashionable pair of flats that are easy to slip on for such an occasion.
Lesley has these embroidered flats that add interest to any casual chic outfit. I’ve linked to a couple of other pairs if your closet needs an update.
Insider tip: If you’re already in a neutral outfit like these black leggings and white blouse, adding a color with your footwear is an easy way to add fun to an outfit.

Make Up
I think Lesley has proven that it’s not rocket science to make the switch from lounge wear to a casual chic outfit. If you don’t usually wear makeup around the house, then adding a swab of lipstick and sunglasses is the way to go.
Just like I discussed in the basic 5 minute face, it only takes one minute to put on lipstick which gives color to your face. It’s always preferable to look alive when you go out in public.
